LDR Album Process Discussion

Not sure if this is the best thread to ask this in but how do you guys organize your unreleased? Do you do it by year, as a “b-side” of a certain album, or make your own “albums”?I’m having a hard time figuring out how to order mine.

I go by eras and do "albums" (this mostly apply for the 2010-2011 material which is a LOT). With the recently revealed info I did a Tropico album for tracks that were made between Paradise/UV but do not sound straight up ripped from UV. Also I did a "Side B" for both UV and Honeymoon, and I'm working on one for BTD. + maybe I'll compile a remake of the BTD Album Sampler of 18 songs, likely with demos from the released tracks to make it sound different from the actual album.

Will probably do a thread for it to show how mine are taking shape! It's really fun to do this tbh

See I would do that but I definitely like to separate mine by “vibe” Lol, I just feel really disorganized if I put a song that’s from 2012 in a “album” with mostly 2013-2015 songs, but making a b-sides also irks me because I don’t like to only have 2-3 songs

One more little thing - I added Young & Beautiful (Demo), I Don't Wanna Go and Life Is Beautiful (this one can be removed from HM side B) to Paradise to make it a full-length album - that's why I didn't list any of these in the previous arrangements lol.

I get like this too so I ended up making these type of albums as playlists instead

i change th album in their metadata to Unreleased and throw them all to one big playlist called Unreleased and that's it

I separate everything by year recorded And then if there's enough songs I'll separate the years into separate albums composed of songs from the same year

Even though I hate it, I do the same. I spent ages trying to divide the songs by 'quality' (in theory from acapella laptop demo through to fully produced track that just didn't make it to record), but so many songs slipped between the cracks that I had to give up. I'm also not interested in categorising things by recording date, again because there are too many songs that we don't have specifics for. I do have a playlist of the top tier 60 or so tracks that I enjoy the most, but there's no real pattern to how they're chosen or sequenced.

i just put demo and outtake into their suppose album (cult leader, cherry blossom take 1-3 under ultraviolence sessions) but this is really hard because some song is hard to tell they are from which recording session

 

anyway I always put LIB (2015 version) under hm sessions because it is reworked for 2015 movie

I have b-sides albums of each album with their outtakes. Like Honeymoon (Outtakes). With a photoshoot I like of each album as cover art

And I organize the other songs by year (the songs that were not meant to be on any album) like Unreleasd Songs (2010) but I can't decide what should I use as cover art for each unreleased album and it's bugging me every single day omg

Like I can't choose anything from 2010 photoshoots cuz there's many I like

What should I do?

Does anyone have any tips?

i just organize them by year, every song in each year/album is listed in alphabetical order

I just decided to put anything post-2009 as BTD outtakes because they fit with the other songsI also am making an AKA b-sides with anything 2006-2008, I don't put every unreleased, just ones I actually listen to. (i'm not super into sirens so anything I like from that era is going into AKA b-sides as well).

I have an unreleased collection for each year. They usually coincide with the eras. Within those albums, I use “work and movement” in Apple Music/iTunes to also separate them by producer, so I know what sessions the songs usually belong to. Alternatively, you could also make multiple discs belonging to one album. However, that won’t allow you to add additional titles for each disc.

Did you make the cover arts yourself?  I love those Quiet Now and The Phenomena ones.

Sorting unreleased by producer would be difficult for me– what about the songs with co-producers, or unknown credits?– but I stan the effort
