I love this project. It won’t be a constant listen for me as it’s very heavy, but it’s beautiful and thickens the Ethel Cain atmosphere. I feel like this music is more in line with the visuals of ‘Ethel Cain’, maybe even more so than Preacher’s Daughter that I feel in retrospect lacked a bit of ‘roughness’ in some of the tracks. (Although I listen to that album daily). Amber Waves, Punish, Perverts are all spectacular and when I listened in the dark last night I was terrified.

 

If you are shocked that this is the music of the album I don’t know what to say to you, because it was going to be this all along. I think this is such a bold move but also a necessary one for Hayden, as she is sharpening her vision and storytelling rather than diluting it as a result of her popularity. It’s not commercial, but at the same time I hate to see these basic ass chart music bitches in her comments telling her it’s bad!! THIS MUSIC ISNT FOR YOU!!!!!  

people saying the album has no lyrics goes to show they didn't listen to album at all so therefore their opinions is very irrelevant. like have u heard punish? amber waves? pulldrone? vacillator? no lyrics apparently

the response to perverts has proved what I’ve always know and that is that her music pre perverts was Taylor swift dressed with satanic lore while her fans were desperate to pass it off as something deep and now that she’s actually doing it they are losing their minds cause it’s not giving Taylor swift anymore

Perverts proved what I had already suspected: I am not a die-hard fan and prefer when her songs are closer to Preacher’s Daughter. I wasn’t expecting American Teenager type of songs here at all (it’s even almost out of place on the album tbh), I had read her description of it, read some critics, and read on her subreddit what it would about, so I knew Perverts would be ambiant but it’s not for me sadly. 
 

I have mad, mad respect for her artistry, I don’t think I’ve seen an artist approaching and planning her career as thoughtfully as she does, and fans will probably love Perverts for the reasons I don’t. The tracks are, to me, chamber music made with drones for people on a psychiatric ward, or they could be the soundtrack for a modern art showroom about mental institutions. I love ambiant music but I need a bit more melodies than what I heard on many tracks. 
 

Punish is my favourite (love that song so, so much). vacillator and Amber Waves are also good (although I can’t even hum the melody to Amber Waves tbh). 
 

Perverts, sadly, won’t be the soundtrack to my winter, but I’m glad so many of you are enjoying it

girl the instagram post is flooded with admiration and love.  I just skimmed through the comments and could not find a single bad one.  if they are there, they're buried deep in the mass amount of positive comments and surely have 100 people responding in defence of her. so why are you honing in on this as though the majority of people are sending her hate when the reviews are for the most part incredibly positive?

When I read the post I was half asleep and also the top comment I saw was the one I addressed. Maybe I exaggerated but… the point still stands. Of course people can dislike the record. I have no issue with that

 

However I take issue with the insufferable people who have swanned in recently and are in the comments saying stuff like ‘Ethel I love you but wtf is this’ etc. It’s narrow minded and entitled. I just wanted to give my two cents on that on a public forum  

 

As a fan of Hayden I’m elated to see the response in her comments, I just so happened to see several ones which provoked me to write my post.

I honestly have to respect how Ethel stans truly do the most in creating an off-putting aura towards her and her art  I remember around preachers daughter release when @the ocean lied about Ethel wanting this thread taken down for the sole purpose of gatekeeping when the thread was basically just them and another member cirlce jerking about being in the exclusive Ethel discord  and the lana comparisons discourse oooh what a time that was  im listening rn Im on track 3 and its great so far!
