It’s just disgraceful that her label won’t give her 10 million dollars for promotion and a music video! She puts in so much work…she’s addicted to the recording studio and visits at least 1 day a year to work on the record for a whole half hour! She’s done some incredible live performances, where she always arrived promptly and on time with perfect vocals.  It’s not like all her fans are a few left over grunge girlies from the 2013 Tumblr scene. Her Godfather was Micheal Jackson that’s got to mean something!

Mmm. Coming in late listening to these Masochism leaks.... some of these don't seem finished, like at all. Curious about how some people are already writing off songs with these 30-45 second gaps in the middle of the track where it's obvious that's where the second verse should be, or 15-20 seconds of nothing where a bridge should fall, or that just sound like an extra loop that was left in and not trimmed back to match the lyrics. Unless of course we're just writing them off based on instrumentation/sound alone, in which case  different strokes/different folks.

That's what I'm wondering. Like, coming from leaky-XCX-pipes-land, there's been cases where we've gotten an early leak of a song where the instrumental was more or less mastered, but the lyrics were straight up NOT - so there was either 40 seconds of dead music in the middle of a track, or just only a chorus on repeat, or Xbox just literally singing gibberish. And then later we get the exact same track leaked, no real change in the instrumentation, but the full and proper lyrics are there, and the song is now like +/- 15-30 seconds in length to match up.

June 6th - In a long post on Instagram, Sky announces that new music is "finally happening" and that she is waiting for the official release date (presumably from her label) before announcing her single(s), suggesting a double release.

 

July 6th - Via Instagram, Sky states that she is putting the finishing touches to her first two singles and writes "Masochism, finally", suggesting that the EP has been cancelled.

 

July 30th - In a reply to a fan asking about Masochism on Twitter, Sky says that the first single involves "a fire baptism".

 

July 31st - Sky posts her Voices Carry cover on her Soundcloud and in the description mentions that she will be sharing more information about Masochism on there. She also gives a hint about one of her first two singles: "There's a fire on your street".

 

September 26th - On her Instagram story, Sky shares an image of files and states that she is listening to each singular track in order and making notes on them before properly arranging and finishing them.

 

September 30th - Sky confirms via Instagram that Guardian will have a separate release after she puts out brand new music, although she is still writing songs and is not sure of Masochism's final tracklist yet.

March 21st - Sky announces that her new single - and first official release in almost 6 years - "Downhill Lullaby" will be released on 27th March. 

 

March 26th - In a Pitchfork interview Sky talks about her meticulous recording and mixing process and reveals a few details about Masochism, including that it is "almost positively" going to be released in 2019. (This never happens)

 

March 27th - Sky releases "Downhill Lullaby".

 

April 1st - Sky teases "Don't Forget", a song she talked about in her Pitchfork interview, on her Instagram story.

 

April 28th - A month after its release, Sky announces that a music video and an alternate version of "Downhill Lullaby" are on the way.

July 19th - Sky premieres "Descending" live at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and says that it is coming "very soon".

September 28th - Sky asks her followers on Instagram is they would be interested in a "vvv special limited series MASOCHISM podcast". She gives no further details.

 

October 10th - Sky announces that she is releasing new music "right before the decade is over" on Instagram. (This never happens)

 

November 9th - Sky posts a picture on Instagram with the caption "THIS WINTER". She deletes the post minutes later. (It is worth noting that Sky has now announced she will be releasing music for the past 3 consecutive winters, with only one song actually being released)

 

November 10th - Sky tweets that she has new music "coming out very soon".

 

November 12th - Sky once again affirms that new music is coming out but she is currently "not at liberty to say when".

February 18th - Sky's mom shares that Sky had surgery the previous week via her Instagram story.

 

February 19th - Sky responds to a fan's Instagram comment saying that she had to have surgery so she could "finally release music", adding that she'd explain the situation once she had recovered.

 

February 24th - Sky responds to an angry fan on Instagram demanding new music, stating that she finished what she is putting out "a while ago" but that she is still dealing with health issues.

 

April 6th - In a series of Tweets, Sky once again states she has finished all the songs she is "putting out first", but "obviously can't give a release date" due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic as she wants it to have a proper release under normal circumstances.

 

April 8th - Sky replies to a comment on her Instagram post asking her to release at least one single, telling the fan that it's not the right time and that she has to make artwork and videos before releasing anything, which she can't currently do due to the lockdown.

August 6th - Sky replies to a fan asking about new music on Instagram, affirming once again that she has finished her singles and is waiting for the coronavirus crisis to be over so she can make videos and perform the songs live. January 28th - A fed up fan tells Sky to release the album and says Halsey was right for calling her a spoiled little rich girl. Sky claims the anger is misdirected and her 20s have been robbed from her. She continues to make reference to behind the scenes people stopping her from releasing.

 

January 29th - “All to Myself”, “Always Ready To Lose You”, and “Hurt By You” leak online.

 

March 6th - Sky gives an interview to the Patreon podcast Not Really and states said that the album is 70% complete and that something is coming April 2. (This never happens)

 

March 21st - Sky tells a fan on Instagram people behind the scenes are dragging out the album release and refusing to fully support it.

 

April 1st - Sky likes a petition that suggests Capitol is refusing to release Sky’s music, and demands them to allow her to release the album.

 

May 25 - It is announced that Sky will perform at Primavera Sound 2022 on June 11th. Sky likes a comment asking if she will release music before the festival. 

 

September 24th - A fan asks for the information of Sky’s label so they can get the album released, to which Sky responses with “I will take you up on the offer if I don’t receive answers within the next 14 days”.

 

October 29th - On Night Time, My Time’s 8th birthday Sky posts to Instagram: “NEW MUSIC RELEASE DATE CONFIRMED: let’s just say…uh…

~it comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb~ ????”. This is a proverb for March, however, it should be noted that she does not specify March of which year.

 

December 19th - Stereogum included Masochism as their 4th most anticipated album of 2022. Sky responds on her Instagram stories and says “It happens every year but it’s actually coming out this time”, implying Masochism will be released in 2022. (This never happens)

January 23rd - Sky’s mother posts to Instagram “new album coming march”. 

 

January 25th - Sky’s mom posts to her stories on Instagram that “It’s happening soon”. Sky herself posts a photo to her Instagram Stories and captions it “I’m not lying! xoxo”.

 

March 31st - After radio silence about the album all month, Sky posts “wrath and death threats pause until April please & thanks love you xoxo Sky”.  Then, both Sky and Capitol Records post a teaser video for “Don’t Forget” on Instagram. She captions it “remember me?”

 

April 19th - Sky posts a photo, which appears to be a cover art, to Instagram with the location of purgatory.

 

April 26th - Sky signs a publishing deal with Third Side Music, an independent music publisher. In a press release, it is said they are going to “represent her new song catalog worldwide, develop collaborations with other artists, songwriters and producers, as well as foster unique opportunities in film, TV, advertising, trailers, games and more.

 

May 2nd - Sky attends the MET Gala. When asked about the album, she says "You think I’d be here at 3 A.M. if I didn’t have new music to promote? Actually, yes, I would be. This party, it’s not like you can miss it.”

 

May 9th - “Don’t Forget” leaks online.

 

May 10th - ATRL insider RideOrDie announces that “Don’t Forget” will be released on May 19th at 11pm UK Time.

 

May 25th - Sky releases "Don't Forget".

 

May 25th - Sky gives an interview to Vulture. She says would like to write some more songs for the album, but she is "100 percent confident" Masochism will be released in 2022. (This never happens)

 

May 27th - Sky calls Pitchfork "painfully lazy" for their poor review of "Dont' Forget" and not crediting Sky as a producer of the song.

 

June 9th - Sky performs at the NOS Primavera Sound festival in Porto, Portugal. She arrives 20 minutes late and performs Don't Forget for the first time. She debuted "Innocent Kind", an unreleased track" for the first time.

 

June 11th - Sky performs at Primavera Sound 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. She debuts "All My Lovers Die".

 

June 17th - In an interview with the Guardian, Sky blames a lot of the delays on her label, Capitol Records. She claims they have stopped her from working with many in the industry by labelling her as "mentally ill", "difficult", "unprofessional", and a "drug addict". She also said to her label "You have literally ruined my life... My life was taken from me. It’s not just like a job to me. It’s literally me. It was like literally being in solitary confinement. I felt like I was gagged and bound.” She also went to extensive auditions for the Madonna biopic.

 

June 17th - In an interview with NME, Sky states Masochism is "basically done for the most part, it’s just that some parts need to be re-recorded," she says. "Just the finishing touches, really."

 

August 29th - Sky speaks to Nancy Sinatra for Interview Magazine. Both of the singers relate to being pigeonholed early on in their career to a bubble gum image. Sky states she can be very critical of herself, and fixate on things. The interview also states that "Masochism will finally appear this year". (This never happens)

 

September 26th - Sky speaks to Dazed magazine, and acknowledges that people think the problem (for the album delays) is her. She "thought that for a long time", but now mainly believes its her label's fault. She claims a video for "Don't Forget" is coming, but gets frustrated while talking about it.
