The Grants is dividing the Twitter fandom apart as well. That's how you know you've made an impactful song. :clapback:

you know you’re that bitch when you cause all this conversation

Also, unpopular opinion idk, I feel like the one-take vocals a la hope is a dangerous thing/White Dress suited those songs but the novelty of it wears off when she does it again and again and again.

Examples: Blue Banisters, now The Grants.

It just doesn’t pack the same punch. It doesn’t serve the lyrics. It actually does a disservice to Lana’s lyricism, because it makes the listening experience unpleasant. I’m always willing to be challenged as a listener, but there’s nothing new or innovative about unpolished, poorly mixed vocals.

Tunnel and A&W you could tell she was meticulous with her vocal takes and actually wanted the song to sound good, not raw. With The Grants she goes for that raw unpolished sound, but it just doesn’t work for me. Ok bye 👋 still super excited for this album. Just sharing thoughts y’all.

The Grants instrumental is fucking gorgeous and Lana's voice hits as per usual. Not crazy about the opening minute but it doesn't bug me that it's there.

Overall, a very effective opener. I can't wait to hear it in context with the album.

That’s interesting, I didn’t really hear any super raw vocals, I thought it sounded amazing

I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.

You know what, I totally see your point of view on this. I’m personally a big fan of Lana’s raw vocals but I can see how after the last two albums it can be a little tired. I think we will get a nice transition from her raw vocals on Side A to some more meticulous and deliberate vocals on the later sides :)

Spoiler

Think I should consider
Ending my addiction to ending things
Nurturing a good flame
Just to let it get blown out by the wind
Think I should consider
Ending my addiction to ending things
Obtaining, sustaining a good friend
Just to break it off 'cause I'm bored of positions I'm in

Why am I seeing so many negative comments about The Grants on Instagram? I’m waiting for the album release and I don’t know what to expect anymore :noparty:

What’s the general consensus on here?

It's an orchestral ballad with gospel inspired vocals. Listeners who like this sort of vocal driven song will probably enjoy it, but other people might find it boring, hence the variety of opinions

The Grants is making me sob. The idea of passing on and taking my memories of everyone I love with me is so overwhelming in a beautiful and sad way. I’ve received bad news over the last few months: a friend has brain cancer, my dog is in heart and kidney failure, I’m losing a close friend at work because of layoffs. In addition to hearing the song from my perspective, I am thinking about it from theirs especially when she says “Do you think about heaven? Do you think about me?” I don’t want them to forget me, and then Did you know… comes on and I’m more of a mess.
This song is really hitting me, and I think it’s her best opening track. :xcry:

Same here in the way that I’ve had some pretty dark thoughts this past year but I always remind myself of the things that matter most to me and make me happy, like my friends and family, and I really hope those things go with me when I’m not here anymore :trisha:

wrong song but doesn't matter cause every song is a callback to another on this album like a loop :oprah3: everything references each other the cohesion is mad like
