Lana Del Rey Has Songs Ready for Country Album but Doesn't Want It to Be 'Half-Cooked': 'We'll Get There'

my guess is that she meant she can’t complete what she originally wanted for the album
“even if it’s super stripped back I want it to be like what it was supposed to be”

maybe she had grand plans for the album that she can’t complete so she just compromised on something smaller

also in the video interview she smiles and roles her eyes after she says that so take that how you will 😭

"“even if it’s super stripped back I want it to be like what it was supposed to be”

translation: Even with songs that have simple, minimalist production (like my song Henry, Come on) without a big orchestra or beats, I want it to be just right. Even if it's just me and an acoustic guitar, I want to get to the place where I'm super happy with it and ready to put it out there.

I hear wandering, perfectionism, not conforming.

Whatever it is, we can give Lasso a good, long-ass rest.

honestly I think she’s so hesitant because she knows she has some of her best work and wants to do it justice. this feels like the complete opposite of the stream of consciousness voice memo vibe of Ocean Blvd and Blue Banisters. wouldn’t be surprised if she’s been sitting on some songs for a couple years. im glad she’s not rushing it this time around.

No cause what does "half-cooked" even mean? Does it mean that she has only written the album, or that she has already started with the production or like what:defeated:

I think she means that she doesn't want to put out an album with half songs she loves and then some filler songs just to have a record ready to release.

Blue Banisters was kinda like that... she had new songs she wanted to put out quickly to explain herself but weren't enough for an album so she completed it with some of her favorite unreleased songs and called it a day.

I adore BB but I think it's a good thing that she's following her vision this time and just waiting for it to be done as she intended :true:

If she doesn't want her music to sound half cooked, mayhaps I suggest she'd work with someone other than the half-cooked-music man himself.

The fact she already talked about stripped back stuff again ... ew

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

I am at the point in my Lana fandom where I have to surrender and just trust Lana.

Trust Lana.

That means just being patient, not taking too much stock in what she says.

Whenever the final product arrives I am usually pleasantly surprised. Her voice, her lyrics, the talent comes through.

There may be another release before Lasso or it may never see the light of day.

What ever comes I Trust Lana to deliver.

Hopefully something before 2030! 😀

I think, based on the other things she said, that she has a few songs that she really loves that are finished, but not a whole album of songs that she really loves so she doesn't want to release something with a few great songs and the rest she feels are just filler.

Its possible the reason she still feels the need to make an entire country inspired album is because she wanted to kind of go in that direction with Chemtrails and BB, but maybe she was afraid to go entirely in that direction and held back. But now she wants to release a full country inspired album and she wants to do it right and not in a way that will leave her unsatisfied again :true:

Completely agree lol she's supposedly been working on this country album concept for years now so it must be important to her to get it right and do the songs that she has already that she loves justice

This is the least excited I have been for a Lana album ever,  I’m not sure what it is…but I think if it’s just stripped back Americana it’s not gonna cut it.  I want something dark, orchestral…with proper instrumentations.

I'm honestly tired of how long it takes artists to release new records today. Look at old famous artist from the 50s-70s. People like The Beatles or Elvis were releasing full albums every year, occasionally multiple per year. Why is it now taking so long for everyone? Taylor Swift is doing it, so why can the other big pop artists not keep up?

That article is a total mishmash and doesn't tell us anything we didn't know. Just because she's claiming Lasso is coming in the future doesn't mean she won't change her mind again. If she's going to release another album of some kind--compilation of outtakes, unreleased, etc.-- before Lasso, then that's only going to push Lasso back that much farther.

I continue to wait calmly and to emotionally anticipate nothing. Then when something actually drops I'll get excited.

quantity and quality rarely go together (the artists you mention from the 50s and 70s worked in groups, did a lot of covers or creations for which they were not the author and composer)

Taylor and a few others know how to respond to market demands, the future will tell us how, apart from sales which I don't care about,  his "works" are evaluated.

;I'm a fan of Kate Bush, sometimes there's a 20 year gap between albums and no public appearance for 10 years. Let's not complain.

Literally what even is this argument. The artist should create for themselves not for the audience's demands.

totally disagree with that. Artists are super productive in the era of streaming (adele and others aside). For instance, Ldr dropped 9 records (with aka), an ep, an audio book, a book of poems; and countless, collabs, soundtracks and remixes in just over 10 years.

If she started dropping records every 6-9 months instead of 2 years on average, the quality would go down. If you don't believe me,  try writing a good song, see how long it takes you.

i used to do some work as a lyricist, my job was to write lyrics to piano lines, which would get turned into songs with proper production, etc. Matching the exact number of syllables to a melody, and then have it all makes sense in the end (as a story), without being cliched or seen before, is actually outright excruciating. People don't realize. It takes days sometimes just to get the lyrics right. And that's just the lyrics.

lana's work on Blue Jeans, for example, must have taken a lot of time and energy. And she's one of the ones that work really fast. So for others, it's natural that it will take longer or they'll have to have multiple, sometimes up to 11  writers on one track.

Writing music takes time. Writing good music takes takes even more. We should celebrate Lana's talent and productivity and, for once, cut her some slack.

honestly i dont know why she's never truly experimented with other type of releases like EPs (debut EP and tropico don't even count since they were basically singles from the albums... and paradise was basically a whole new album lol)

her EP would still probably be around 25 minutes which is sometimes the length of some artists' whole albums :toofloppy: and you can still release them on cute vinyls and use the tracks in future releases if they somehow turn into a part of whole album! and if you get bored of them you can just move on to next main project...

this way she could sometimes release shorter but really cohesive and strong projects instead of frankensteining old material into new to form a one hour LP
