I think cruel world is just too good to ever be topped for album opener. It sets the mood perfectly + hypes you up for the journey you're about to go on with UV.

Came here to pretty much post what the previous poster said!

I think Lana really needs a long break. There's a few reasons for this, but one of them is that I think it could really help Lana regain her sense of mystery and enigma. I'm not one of those people who longs for the days when Lana was a total mystery, but to be frank I do think she's showed her ass with her recent comments and some time away could help the dust settle and make the public - and us - finally wonder about her once again. I think both diehard fans and casual observers feel like they've got her all figured out. Particularly the general public - they now just think she's a republican Trump-loving Karen (we know that's not true, but yeah). Her public image is in tatters and her image to fans is confusing too, but not in a good ~I can't figure her out!!~ kinda way - more in a "I knew this was coming but whyyyyyy lana why" kinda way every time she opens her mouth and says something embarrassing. It's getting tiring for everybody, I think, to only ever see Lana in the headlines for bad stuff.

I think it'd be good for us as an audience, too, to not know exactly what she's writing about in her music all the time, kinda like how we speculate (check out the LANALYSIS thread!) about a lot of older songs and try to connect them to people we dont really know and life events we're not even fully sure happened. Her relationships recently have been fairly public (especially the cop) and we seem to know a whole lot about what's happening in her life so its quite obvious what she's writing about usually. Time away from the spotlight and having a longer period of time to write music will add some mystique to her work again and we can have fun analysing it like the we do with her pre-UV work!

Remember how Paris Hilton said she suffered a lot of abuse at her boarding school. She made a documentary about it too. Rich kids are sent to these type of schools to rectify their behavioural issues. But some schools have been abusing these kids in horrifying ways upon which Paris Hilton has now started to shed light as she doesn't want anyone to undergo what she has gone through.

I get the feeling even Lana has undergone the same at her boarding school. Regarding her grudge against her mother. I think she only forced her to go to the boarding school like Paris Hilton's mother. Paris Hilton was sent as she was starting to act out and was a rebellious teen. The upper class society are supposed to behave all prim and proper. Paris Hilton's family had even threatened to disown her. That is why Paris created this "dumb blonde" persona and built an empire around it, so she wouldn't ever have to depend on her family's wealth in the event they actually disowned her. This is what Lana has tried to convey about her difficult upbringing. Money is not everything. The physical and emotional traumas she must have suffered can never be healed and no amount of money in the world can bring peace to a soul that has been traumatized beyond belief. This is why Lana created her own separate world of Art in which she lives so as to escape the demons of her real life.
See James Franco comment about her :

Do not judge a person based on external wealth alone. Because you never know the price they had to pay to be worthy of that wealth.

Okay this interview was obviously a mess and she sounded all over the place, but I also think she made a lot of reasonable points that people will take out of context. The only really cringey parts where when she brought up race again, I don't know why she keeps doing that. We know she's not racist so she needs to stop overly explaining that she's not because the general public won't take the time to understand her and she's gonna get thoroughly dragged. What she was saying about Trump's delusions of grandeur, and how the people storming the capitol think that they're a part of a revolution and they have so much disassociated rage were really interesting. She is also right that Trump didn't cause all of this, it's been brewing forever. He did of course encourage it to come out in people. I also agree with her that self-obsession is such a huge problem and it contributes greatly to the climate crisis and the horrors of capitalism. I don't think she was implying that narcissism is worse than climate change or capitalism, but rather a cause of these things and should be viewed as seriously.

I really do hope she's okay, and also think the title track offered some insight to how she's feeling. In the song it's like she's asking us to let her be, because in the grand scheme of things she's doing nothing wrong and is tired of being judged for being who she is. Lana will always be misunderstood and even if it's often her own doing, that doesn't mean she deserves the aggressive hate that gets thrown at her.

Thankfully, her art is way too powerful for any of these controversies to ruin her reputation. In the future, as people continue to evaluate her contributions to music without the bias of her drama, it will be very clear that she's an icon.

This has such a strong Lizzy Grant vibe to it. But like a Lizzy Grant who is now Lana who is now rich and who is now going insane, or maybe just joking, or just in love with life, or possibly a little bit of everything, and who cares since life is a dream? That's the vibe I'm getting.

One of the things I love about Lana is about how seemingly unfazed she is by her yo-yoing weight, something that happens to all of us. She never addresses it as a concern or even acknowledges it, and doesn’t change her wardrobe to cover up like some of us would do in insecurity. She’s actually a really great role model in that respect.
