    I think there is a tendency to equate complexity with masterful writing, and simplicity with amateurism but that is a fallacy. Simplicity can be powerful, and overwriting can obscure the soul of a work. I see a lot of the criticism of IYLDWM as falling into this trap. Is the chorus simple ? Yes. But, it is because that is all the song needs to say. Padding is bad writing. The verses paint a vivid picture and the chorus adds the necessary emotional context to understand the picture. Using a lot of big words does not make meaning profound.
