random: but every time I re-listen to COTCC (album) it just gets better. antonoff put his entire bussy into the production and lana said washing my hair, doing the laundry, I’m still so strange and wild

anyway started my entire Lana re-listen in preparation tomorrow. I avoided most leaks so far (I did peak at dealer, SOOOO GOOD), but yeah for this new era text book is looking like my favorite at the moment.

It's a style of film genre that is Italian-based interpretations of the Hollywood Western genre. So instead of being nationalistic, they're more prone to being over-the-top and more focused on the aesthetics rather than 'Merica vibes. Ennio Morricone frequently did the music scores for a lot of the most popular films in the genre, and they all have a very similar sound (plucky, layered strings of guitar and violins / lots of brass), which has in-turn become the 'spaghetti western' subgenre in music. Morricone is sampled with a producer credit on the Trio, which is an homage to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly's famous 'trio' of the title.

lana getting ready to record her synthwave mike dean revenge magnum opus "rock candy sweet" featuring hit tracks such as "god bless & fuck off" & "answer for the culture" when she reads that all of the publications hate her music and still talk about nfr, video games, qftc, masks, & her "flop" lizzy grant album, which is actually the cult classic masterpiece of the century

Yeah it's a very silly comparison. I guess making consecutive reflective albums = sameness according to them.

By the way I just reread their review and it's very positive until the last paragraph lol. They literally admire Lana's experimentations with her voice and sound, praise several tracks (Dealer, Thunder, Wildflower Wildfire, Text Book, Black Bathing Suit), say that there are "sublime stretches" on the album and only seem to have qualms with a couple of lyrics and the "slowness" of the last quarter of the album. They say that "in the context of comparing the album to NFR, it may be considered a disappointment" in terms of style and sound. But the review ends on a more positive note than, say, their premature evaluation of COCC when they kinda said that "For Free" is the strongest moment on the album but that might not be enough to save the rest of it from being too slight and too low-key so...I guess that's a win lol.

    EDIT: Basically what @Gothicula said.

i don’t think the review is negative, they said it’s a disappointment in the context of nfr but they’ll say that forever now. The track by track reviews  were nice

    !!!!

what the fuck. evermore and folklore have drastically different themes, so do COCC and Blue Banisters. COCC is like Lana at her happiest and leaving her beloved LA for freedom and friendship, and Blue Banisters is like a reflective record both musically and thematically from what we heard so far.

don't let the music publications & the twitter users know that she dedicated a song to a trump supporter on her album

I've seen Lana getting dragged so much since the BTD days up until NFR/Chemtrails that I've become insensitive to bad reviews
If they don't like it that's their loss. I still want her to get the critical acclaim she deserves tho.
Also that review was so weird. It was all so good and then they proceed to call it a disappointment and drag SC lyrics (when they literally said only Lana could make that work

A reminder that Critics were dismissive of the albums that were actually Lana’s masterpieces. They only changed their tune on NFR because it was no longer cool to hate Lana. They still don’t understand why she’s good. ( I don’t include Fantanonor Spectrum Pulse who genuinely seem to prefer her new music, and clearly articulated why they disliked her old music. I don’t agree but at least it’s honest)
