“It’s a beautiful life, remember that too, for me” is one of my favorite lines of the album. Having that be the last line of “The Grants” after all of the memories she lists out throughout the rest of the song is just devastating. 

Melody kinda trumps everything for me. I need to like the chord progression otherwise I don’t want to listen to it. Beyond that a song gets bonus points from me if it makes me feel a certain way - nostalgia, dance, provocation…. 

When Bloom came out all I could do was fantasise

She instantly drew me in and made me an obsessed fan back in 2012 when I was 13-14. My interest was at its peak in 2012-2014 (through end of UV era) since I was a lonely, depressed, closeted teen with nothing better to do than to stan her and Britney online, and Lana was so unique and different compared to pop music at the time. 
 
I remember getting slightly less interested in 2015 with Honeymoon, not because I didn’t love the album or her, I think I was just distracted with other things. I was excited for and obsessed with LFL when it came out, I don’t like it much now. 
 
Again, I didn’t really follow her between eras, but I did listen to MAC, VB, and DT when they came out. When NFR finally came out, it reinvigorated my love for her. It’s my #2 favorite album of all time, and the NFR/Bartender/HIAB is one of my favorite music videos. 
 
I got annoyed and probably my least happy I’ve ever been with her in 2020 with her Instagram controversies, meeting with fans with the jewel face mask during the pandemic when there were no vaccines, her filming herself while driving on what looked like a curvy mountain road, her repeatedly delaying albums, giving fake album release dates and titles, and false promises, and just her arrogant attitude. 

And then I was really disappointed in both COTCC and BB. I like COTCC more now than release, but Blue Banisters might be my least favorite release of hers ever. And it sucks, because everything she’s put out and all her unreleased music has always just clicked with me. So I was super disappointed that her most recent albums weren’t clicking, and ironically, it made me post here more because I’ve been going back and forth between being disappointed and angry and trying to convince myself I like them lol. 
 
That being said, I don’t feel like I’ve ever stopped being a fan or my fan card has ever decreased in any way. Like even with me being more obsessed in 2012-2014, I feel like I’ve been at a constant level of Lana fan status this whole decade where I just will never not be a fan unless she does something truly awful in character. I have very slightly less confidence in her artistic vision now due to her two most recent albums though.

I’m happy for her being pregnant and happy to see her performing again even if I was underwhelmed. But it all just made me realize how much I just miss her music and eras. I really miss the late 2000s and early 2010s pop music scene altogether. Pop music just isn’t as fun anymore. 
 
Both Rihanna and Britney were such big staples in my music library, pretty much being the soundtrack to my life growing up, and now neither of them have released an album or had an era since 2016. They both knew how to put out hit after hit of super fun danceable bangers while being confident in themselves and their sexuality and having an effortless swagger about them. Both of them fading out of the music industry at the same time has left a huge void for me that just hasn’t been filled since. 

NAURRR we say “ahs is finally back to ahs” every year I’m so tired I need to see it to make a judgement

thinking about how risky and bold it was that Lana released West Coast as the first single after the BTD/Paradise/Y&B era. A complete change up in sound and a tempo change with the chorus becoming slower than the verses… and somehow it all works insanely well. That’s how I knew she wasn’t a one trick pony. It takes a serious artist to pull that off. 

Cute song, but it won’t go on my Lanita playlist. 

What seasons and times of day do you associate each Lana Del Rey album with?

I love when Lana is super specific in her writing or when she sings about day-to-day life. She has stated her belief that specificity actually is the pathway to universality before, and it’s true (for me at least)—you definitely feel connected and embodied by the music the more that she probes deep into the minutia of her life.

Nectar of the Gods is the best song on BB

Just listening to Happiness is a butterfly and having a moment of being extremely grateful that Lana exists and shares her work with us. I thought about how different my life would be without her in it, and it’s insane to imagine. She’s been a constant influence and soundtrack in my life for over 11 years which is a bit under half my life at this point. There’s no other artist’s music that hits me in the way that hers does.
