This is why we can't take critics seriously when she releases an album. 3/5 reviews only to hit #1 out of hundreds of albums in the same critics' Best of 2023 lists. They're aware of her brilliance, but they never give Lana her flowers immediately. Pure fucking comedy.

It's pretty boring for me: I love her more with each new album.

When Born To Die came out I was absolutely obsessed. My roommate became furious with me because I played the album so much. I don't remember falling in love so hard with any other artist's debut album. She was giving old Hollywood glamour, the most beautiful orchestral strings, perfect pop choruses, and a touch of unhinged energy I couldn't really pinpoint. As I've grown older over the past 10 years, and we've gotten to know her in a wilder and deeper way, some of the magic from Born To Die has worn off a bit, but it's mostly still intact. It's just a brilliant album.

Ultraviolence was there for me when I needed it (breakup zzz) and a real heel turn for her. West Coast blew me away. I've always had a very soft spot for Honeymoon - I could always tell it was something she made for herself and not for anyone else. It's an album I've always been happy to sink into the depths with, and it's still near to my heart. Lust For Life, while never my favorite, was always an intriguing mix of different moods and emotions. NFR... Well, Venice Bitch is my favorite Lana song of all time and I feel has completely enhanced my life, so...

I feel like I'm a little older than most fans but still younger than Lana, but the last 3 albums (Chemtrails, Blue Banisters, and Ocean Blvd) have all been very special to me in their own ways. Since the pandemic I've been very reflective and existential, trying to figure out if I have as much "time" as I did when I was young to figure shit out, or if I'm disappointed with how things have turned out... Everyone I know has families of their own and big careers now. And I feel like I've always been on my own path. I guess what I'm saying is, I sort of understand where Lana's at, just sort of seemingly feeling in flux about it all... Having to make big choices.

Chemtrails is her most misunderstood album. I feel slightly protective of it, still. It's a quiet, pure, Laurel Canyon-inspired folk album that was genuinely delicate by definition, but the time period it was released in along with all the drama... It never had a chance to shine.

So my heart is definitely with the newer material, NFR and onward. But I love everything. She has double the plays of my #2 most played artist. So I'm not really sure what else to say. There's no one else like Lana.

I think it just means simpler, modern classic sounding songs. Like Let The Light In, Say Yes to Heaven, etc. Less stream-of-consciousness lyrics about her family and whatnot.

The ending part about not having kids yet was interesting. She was slightly hard to follow there, but it sounds like she might be coming around to accepting that she doesn’t feel it’s possible for her because she’s living an artist’s life?

“I’m tired now,” Del Rey admits. “So keeping it simple is probably the way that it’s going to go. I dug around a lot writing this [album] and don’t think I have to go there again.” As such, she has plans to write an album of standards — classic, simple songs that could reach even more people than she does now.

Tbh call me delusional but I don't necessarily think "keeping it simple" has to mean the country/covers schtick, the interviewer is kind of paraphrasing her at that point, right? The last tracks of Ocean Blvd already kind of showed this transition out of some of the heaviest work of her career into lyrically much simpler / lighter songs with more experimental modern production - I don't think it's out of the question for her to go more in that direction next either

I was wondering too if she'd go back to writing less openly personal and maybe simpler lyrics now because Ocean Blvd was so painfully honest (which I love!!), it seems that my hunch was right. I hope they'll still sound great, and hopefully sonically a little more interesting than just a piano now that she's working with more producers too. I don't know what I feel about simpler lyrics though, sometimes when I go back to her older works I'm like... she can do so much better. ^^'
I hope she's okay, I don't know why she mentioned not having kids or marriage when the reporter didn't seem to have been interested to ask about such things.

    Our greek goddess omg

Also the last part of the interview is just so beautiful and her metaphor with Icarus made me emotional . I interpreted as a way for her to say that she is willing to push her boundaries even more and that she is willing to fly so close to the sun even if that leads to her “fall” .
