All she said about the surprise release was "I feel like it probably will be a surprise release sometime within the next 12 or 13 months."  Not exactly a commitment for a full surprise. I don't think announcing the date or sharing one snippet changes the fact that she wants the music and the release to be quiet and relatively surprising. I still think we're getting it early September.

I think I remember reading that Dan Auerbach said the label hated his mix of Ultraviolence and forced Lana to meet with some more pop producers, but the pop producers didn’t want to change anything so the label ended up putting out Dan’s version.

I'd agree that she definitely doesn't seem interested in the numbers anymore, even during Honeymoon promo when she kinda admitted High By The Beach was the song to please the label. Lust For Life was probably some sort of compromise between her and the album to prove she could still score top 40 hits and #1 albums. And honestly, I don't think they would've been so chill with NFR! if it wasn't for Jack's inclusion (I don't agree with this but having a successful male producer onboard probably made the project more appealing to her label). 
But even with NFR! her team pushed signed copies, signed poster bundles, multiple vinyl variants etc in order to get a hit album! So yeah, I know Lana can be unreliable and often misleading but I think the label will definitely want to cash in and try make this album a success.

Then again, the surprise release was something she wishes to maybe do LAST YEAR. Did she change her mind? Was Interscope on board with that when she announced it? 
the only thing that stayed the same is that she wanted a “small era” this time around.

Honeymoon had the best rollout imo: she created some buzz uploading the title track on YouTube in the middle of july, then at the beginning of august she announced HBTB as the lead single, and released it a week later with its video following.
Middle august she posted on Instagram the textless billboard captioning it with the date of release and the following week she posted the tracklist and the album was available for preorder.
And then 2 singles before the release: TLY as a promo single and MTWBT with its music video.
Also, Honeymoon hotline was a nice addition!
In the span of two months we have had everything, no draggings nor excruciating waitings with no word about what was going on.
That era has been low key, but professionally planned and well executed

poetry came out. still haven't read, bc personally just stubborn to wanting to hold the book first. were there any possible clues to that, when talking about the album? 
sept 5th release from her insta post. 
mentioned TJF twice, 2 posts, other one removed- maybe a good solution for those not wanting to over-hear it.

since then, we've imploded over the 5/8 date, which turned out to be true-ish, like a day or so after.
no cover,  no announcements. no teasing, aside from the 2 posts.

- hanging w her friends A LOT, good for her. maybe a bartender/friend track.

I personally don't really think the rantings hold much objective warrant bc she mentioned Sept, and we should just wait til the calendar gets there. wish we got more stuff too, but I mean, she said what she said, and there's nothing much to it. maybe as we get closer to it?

wondering if this'll be like a mesh of lfl and hm. in how it'd be nice to see the identity-based forte that HM had, w how socially ambitious and open lfl was. personally'd want some kind of btd energy, that and more of a hip-hop sound. though really at the end of the day, i just wanna know how she'll change the overall soundscape/ influence others again.




 

Have we given up on something happening this coming Friday? I mean, two weeks before release in our digital age is a pretty decent time to announce an album and make the first single available. 

Okay I think the frustration is def valid here, the lack of information is annoying. However, the NFR roll out was messy and dragged on for an entire year. It turned off a lot of fans by how unprofessionnally and unplanned the whole thing came about.

We've only really been officially aware about this album for less than two months now. We're all eager for sure, but this is not that bad.
Agreed that it'd be great to have more than an album announcement in a messy/controversial open letter on Instagram and a now archived snippet. But I'd never want the NFR roll out for any further albums tbh.

Sept 5th is the day I get back from a very exhausting study trip, so here's how it's gonna go:
The album drops at midnight on Spotify, whether she says anything about it before then or not. I wake up on the 5th after a good sleep, listen to it and fall in love with her music and lyricism again. More than half the album makes it into the better half of her discography. In fact, no, all the songs do. Then this whole album becomes my anthem for the rest of the year while I'm writing my thesis and even though it may not reach the level of Honeymoon and Ultraviolence, the album WILL be on par with MAC, Venice Bitch, 13 Beaches and Cherry

Bruce Springsteen played Lana again on his SiriusXM channel the other day.
 
Bruce had more praise for Lana. The other day he said the following;
“That is ‘American,’ by the lovely Lana Del Rey. She’s, uh, name checking some guy from New Jersey in there. I’m not sure who, but … uh, she is from New York, and was raised in Lake Placid. Lake Placid, a fabulous little American town where I have spent many a lovely summer evening with my children and my family over the years. And Lana is simply one of the best songwriters in the country, as we speak. She just creates a world of her own and invites you in. So a big favorite of mine, the lovely Lana Del Rey.“ 
 
To have this kind of praise from a legend such as Springsteen is a huge honor as I have said before. Woody Guthrie inspired the likes of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Dylan and Springsteen inspired Lana. Lana's folks roots can be experienced in all of her songs whether they feel folky or not. 
Regardless of what the critics say, Lana having the support of legends in this business such as Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Stevie Nicks etc matters a lot. Lets remember that much like Lana, when Bruce came on the scene he wasn't taken seriously at first. The critics didn't understand him and they wrote him off. Well, we all saw how that worked out. Lana has every reason to believe in herself and to always be reaching for the stars. She is this generation's greatest musical storyteller. 

I hope the « Fine China » influences are really present and not « faintly audible ». That would be so disappointing. 

i've probably said this like five times already in this thread, but a trashy rural queen of the gas station kind of sound would be heavenly, judging from the lyrics of tulsa jesus freak, it's very well possible. 
i also really hope the insider tea about lmlylaw sounding like fine china is true
