her new music videos (the ones that are self-directed) are boring as hell. xanny was literally her sitting on a bench with dead eyes, everything i wanted was her sitting in a car with dead eyes. these new videos have more "energy," but they're still quite dull.

yes, prodigies (lana, fiona, lorde) exist and their young genius helps propel them to fame, but suggesting that you can't practice a skill and slowly improve on it is just ludicrous. it isn't a "you have it or you don't." you either have a natural affinity for it, or you work hard and practice and get better. I have hope that she will get better.

anyways. I have a lot of mixed feelings about ms Eilish right now. when I first heard When the Party's Over, I was instantly struck by the beautiful, melancholic atmosphere, the alluring dread, the gorgeous melodies. I quickly caught up on her disco and although nothing came quite close to that song, her EP was very very fresh and musically interesting, and several of her album songs were great too.

this new era, these new songs... it's dull. i mean, they're okay, but she's no longer capitalizing on her gorgeous breathy tone and piercing high notes (whisper-singing or not), nor is she exploring a more powerful chesty sound. it's mumblesing revenge songs about previous friendships and relationships and it just isn't doing it for me. she also threw out her previous dark themes and dark vibes for more neutral tones, which is fine, it's growth, but it's so far proven to be a regression.

i think the problem is that Billie is taking more of a lead on the writing/direction of her projects. it's no secret that Finneas was the brains behind Billie Eilish for many years- most of her melodically brilliant songs are written solely by Finneas. Billie herself has said many times that she hates songwriting and leaves much of it to Finneas. but she's said in recent months that she's finally come into her own with songwriting and... well, it shows

anyways... maybe the album is hiding a few beautiful gems. i do think the hype is wearing out (especially because the GP know and love the girl with the neon roots and dark songs, not this blonde sorority girl), but she has an incredibly strong fanbase so she'll still do well. she's taking more of a Lanaesque route with her career- chasing her muse and the art rather than making music tailored to be chart hits (the only difference is miss lana is doing it way better ), so it'll be interesting to see her sound grow in the next few years.

Yes, especially because it's just so full and rich, cinematically sweeping and manages to straddle both being an homage to old school jazz, and an up to date sound that manages to come across as timeless. Yes it's a bit clunky insofar as some of the songs aren't really right for the album (Shades Of Cool would have worked beautifully on it, 13 Beaches Should Have Been On It, Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood is a weird and sort of dull cover, Swan Song should have been the closer) but it's a stunningly beautiful album that totally surprised me when it came out and made me realise just what a capacity for genre-adopting/twisting Lana had as a songwriter, as well as singing even more ethereally than I already knew. It's one of my favourites and I love to languish about listening to it in summer especially.

probably the worst take in this thread possibly even this forum.. No Better is a bedroom pop masterpiece that perfectly emulates the teenage feeling of summer leading into winter and eats up most of the standard edition tracks and in fact Tim Cook should be hailed as the true savior for letting the iTunes girlies to experience such a wonderfully crafted and emotionally deep bop for the kids in the summer  deserved to go #1 on the BBH100 for 19 weeks straight YUP

Solar Power has lost with each listen to my ears. I'm very frightened.
Lorde, please fire Jack Antonoff. Melodrama was top notch but the new single is
WAIT, is it like an Antonoff thing to make a great record with a singer and then subsequently drop quality/memorability? I can only speak for Solar Power, but some of the fan responses to Lana's Chemtrails were terrible (though I love the record, honestly).

really underwhelmed and disappointed with this lead single... but that's how it goes with every album she's released, for me - so I'm still looking forward to the album and expecting the rest of the songs to be better than this one. really bored with jack as well, I don't understand why he's such a popular producer these days...

For Lorde’s standards it is pretty weak lyrically. Which is fine because I’m sure there’s more to come that could hopefully surpass the beautiful verbiage and poetry of melodrama and ph. Also the super crisp effect Jack is using on her voice is not doing it for me for Lorde in particular. For Lana however it worked very well and was one of the best parts of NFR.
