Maybe she/they want to test, how many people really like her music, without all the social media hype, promotion etc., like with the three singles dropped surprisingly in May with this unmotivated cover image ... It's very admirable that she wants to convince with her music only and nothing more.

She was the answer to the "internet generation", most of her fans stream her music on spotify and apple music, she had more ig followers than Oprah, Arsenal London or Gisele Bündchen. So I think social media is more important than anything else for her.

am i the only one who doesn't want another single released? we already have 4, and honestly, i would've been okay with just 3. i still want an album full of surprises, you know? i don't really foresee her releasing anything else either because she left socials only a couple days after arcadia dropped. i feel like it would make sense to be sort of mia until the album releases

Honestly I don't think she really cares about her career like that anymore. She's already been successful, she's noted over the past ten years how unhappy she is with the fame (and obviously lately all the hate) and I think she's just had enough.
Since she's deleted her socials media, I've been feeling less like I can connect to her, and less obsessed over the new record, although I am still excited about having new music, but less in a 'stan' kind of way and I think that's what she wants. Someones else said it, but I don't think she wants stans anymore
If this hurts her career, drops sales, makes her lose fans, and pushes her more into obscurity then I think that's exactly what she was trying to do
 
And honestly that makes me feel pretty sad that this chapter is ending and that she doesn't even want this career anymore. I really wouldn't be surprised if she moved somewhere random and disappeared for a while. The only reason I could see her even keeping her record deal is because she does enjoy making music and working with producers and stuff.
But I think we need to stop thinking in this perspective that hurting her career, losing fans, and decreasing sales isn't exactly what she wants.

I MAY BE COMPLETELY WRONG HERE AND A BIT DELULU but I'm 99% sure that the Swedish radio stations played Queen of Disaster a whole summer on repeat all days long, and I liked it - a cute song about love with a fun beat. The radio stations almost made me sick of it though, they played it so often.
I had no idea that it was Lana back then, I wasn't interested in her songs yet (I bet I hadn't even heard her name yet) and can you imagine how surprised I was when I found out some time later that my favorite artist Lana Del Rey was that singer they played all summer??
And I suppose the radio stations found out that it's unreleased because they haven't played it since. I guess someone just found it online and then played it on the radio one summer, lol. Ah, the royalties she could've gotten..!
 
Is there someone else who's Swedish and can confirm this? Because... I'm pretty sure I heard Queen of Disaster that summer! Or am I having made up memories??

i'm almost certain that it is. i'm not saying the backlash she got from social media isn't a causal factor of her hiatus but the timing makes it look like there's more to it than just that. her use of 'we' (as in her team) in her last video is very telling too. it's very probable that she was thinking about leaving social media a long time ago (when the hate was at its peak) but her team only green lit it recently to further their own commercial ends, perhaps to achieve the 'prince-like level of mystery' the bbc article talked about. 

I get what you mean about it seeming disingenuous but also what a serve that would be. And in the game of selling records you could call just about anything disingenuous

maybe the label wanted to test the waters of releasing music without artist promo on sm? Lana has an established and pretty broad fan base demographically so they could have decided she was the safest bet for such an experiment. Did she ever directly say she was leaving for her mental health? I don’t remember her exact wording honestly.
 
but didn’t she “go offline” before the COCC release? Phase one of a longer term plan perhaps
 
edit- it also got her in the news, deleting all her social media platforms. That’s promo in itself, maybe even more effective buzz than a few instagram posts

I've actually always lived in an assumption that a record label could hold control over artist's social media accounts if they wanted to - is that correct? like they could "force" them to post or delete something 
 
maybe that hasn't been the exact case with Lana, I mean it seems to me her posts were rather random, but still

either way, i think it's best that we consider how lana might be feeling, and understand her point of view, social media isn't everything & it shouldn't be, if her life will improve by distancing herself from it, she should absolutely do it, and i'm sure her friends, family, & her management are supportive of her decision, sales & promo are asinine when it's really think about the art itself, she's a millionare, and she'll always be successful

I took a quick look at ldrarchived’s insta and it was really cute seeing her Lust For Life - NFR period. She looked so happy even if a bit contemplative. It transported me back to the days I used to see those posts in real time while I was myself transitioning to a life in the big city. Super nostalgic.
