it’s frustration because even from an outsider perspective, it would be so easy for her to put together some thing, cohesive, listenable, and palatable. But I feel that her label is making her cater too much to virality.

Even if I didnt like Malibu much I think she should have continued that route, and if the tropical/reagge influencedalbum didnt work just move on and work on the next… I actually like some of those outtakes and if It was polished It could be a cute idea

i kinda feel like kim is the perfect example of how damaging it is that so many artists in the streaming era release so many “projects” before their debut album 🧍 if this were her fourth or fifth album (which it very well could’ve been), then honestly who really cares that much if it’s not great. but this is her proper debut, there’s a lot riding on it, and her best work/possibly her best creative years were spent on releasing stand-alone singles

There’s no big conspiracy behind this she just makes bad music now that she genuinely thinks is good . Unholy was awful and became the biggest song of her career that won her a grammy. They also linked her up with Max Martin who’s the biggest producer in pop music lmao.

They told her Problematique didn't have enough "good songs" and scrapped Candy but gave this absolute garbage the green light

Handstand is so good, she suits this style so well. I wish she'd ultimately ditch the pop stuff and just continue with this sound, it's where she stands out as an artist.

Gave it a try and can confirm that this album is not for me. Not bad, I liked songs from her in the past, there are surely some bangers in there. I’m a bit thrown off by the title though: Island is the only song that sonically can be associated with summer IMO. The other bangers, although good, don’t give me summer vibes at all. Not that I expected an album full of « Malibu »s but still a bit more summery I guess. Anyways, my opinion doesn’t count for much and surely it will be a hit for her, since I didn’t expect Flowers to be as big as it is right now (not a bad song just not as wow as the numbers behind it say)

It’s hard for me to digest this album: endless SUMMER vacation, as I stand here on the train platform in torrential rain. This album should’ve definitely been released later in the year. I can think of another album that would match this environment a lot better…

Yes I always feel like Miley’s on the cusp of making a good record but she also cares too much about charts/sales so she never fully goes for it.

She's still playing it too safe for me. There are a few exciting tracks on here but most of it is just... meh.

I skimmed this and ya I don’t think I’m the target audience for this muddy feet actually had me audibly laughing a few times what the hell is that 
 
like is it supposed to be ironic? The corny ass boom bap slap drums with the hi hat glitches  sounds like a 12 year old producing some corny dad rock trap track on garage band.

So far I’m finding this Miley album to be pretty bland. Not sure why we couldn’t have just had Ocean Blvd tonight. I’ve noticed Pitchfork has always given Miley terrible reviews, wonder if they’ll do the same for this new one.
