Anyone who only likes one half IS WRONG The fact that it's two completely different halves but flows so seamlessly and seems to be telling a story as @DCooper was saying is what makes this song so monumental, and I could very well see this becoming a trend in pop music

Still can’t get over A&W, literally everything about it is amazing. The “American Whore” section is growing a ton on me and not to pick favorites but I think I might prefer it to the “Jimmy” section? Idk either way it’s a masterpiece of a song.

also she’s like 3/3 for second singles (Venice Bitch, Chemtrails, A&W) (idk what the second single would be for Blue Banisters bc we got 3 at 1 time)

The third verse of this song is an undeniable career highlight. Just like the second verse of Ocean Blvd. WOW.

There's a girl who sings "Hotel California"
Not because she loves the notes or sounds that sound like Florida
It's because she's in a world, preserved, only a few have found the door
It's like Camarillo, only silver mirrors, running down the corridor

I mean, look at my hair, look at the length of it there and the shape of my body
If I told you that I was raped, do you really think that anybody would think I didn’t ask for it, didn’t ask for it?
Didn’t testify, already fucked up my story
    Top of this (Mm)
So many other things you can’t believe
Did you know a singer can still be lookin’ like a side piece at thirty-three?
    God’s a charlatan, don’t look back, babe
Puts the shower on while he calls me
Sneaks out the back door to talk to me
I’m invisible, look how you hold me
    I’m invisible, I’m invisible
I’m a ghost now, look how you hold me now

    UNREAL!

i hear some stargirl interlude, some national anthem outro, paradise demo, some psychedelic kill kill / AKA blended altogether with some trap beats a career highlight i fear... this is truly giving me strong NFR! memories... MAC / OB being the lukewarm slow-burn yet timeless classic in the long run while VB / A&W being the ambitious experimental masterpiece

    Very strong debut on Spotify:

1st Day - Partial (only 9 hours of tracking)
    🌍 WW: #139 (NEW) — 1,251,647 (filtered)
    🇺🇸 US: #93 (NEW) — 410,167 (filtered)
    🇬🇧 UK: #89 (NEW) — 92,349 (filtered)

The title track got 1,355,631 filtered streams on its first day (partial), so the gap between the two tracks consists of 100,000 streams. For a surprise drop of a 7-minute album track with zero playlisting on a Tuesday, this is quite impressive. Hopefully it’ll have a healthy run and - why not? - perform even better (the TikTok stans have to make it go viral though!) in the upcoming days/weeks until the album release date. Lana deserves this.

With how dark this album has been and the themes she's touching on, it feels like this album may be a true follow up to UV, the UV 2.0 we've kind of been begging for for years. The sound doesn't match UV exactly, but it seems very fitting that the cover is in black and white, shot by Neil again, and she's back to writing about darker themes. Also, I have to admit, her songwriting seems to be even better here and I'm not trying to say that A&W is her best song ever, but for me, it's up there. It, by miles, surpasses everything she did with BB and COCC for me. I love COCC and like BB enough I guess (I like BB better than LFL) but the writing on this album has been so well done from what we've heard. The title track alone, with her comparing herself to a tunnel that's been designed with beauty in mind but yet, has been closed off and forgotten... It kind of goes hand in hand with what we've heard from here both on this album and other albums too. It's like she's invisible. She says it that way in A&W and almost shows a reflection of what she talks about in Yosemite ("it's not like i'm invisible, not like I was before when i was burning at both ends"), now we're seeing why she feels she was burning at both ends.

This is truly shaping up to be a top tier, fan favorite record methinks

I've been thinking about this too, actually. I've been listening to it and it's cute and fun, but underneath it all there's bits where it's really dark and twisted. There's that random jarring sound toward the end and she screams in the background and everything is layered so well to make it seem this way. Also, the lyrics "Shimmy shimmy coco bop" remind me of when we were kids and would do the hand slap games, which follows back to the idea of her childhood. This is a stretch too, but thinking about those hand slap games remind me of UV (title track, "he hits me and it felt like a kiss")

I think its so interesting that she included both parts of this song and my experience after listening to it was, as many other did, was only remember the Jimmy part and not really being able to tell what she's saying in the AW part and I think this was intentional...

When it comes to women sharing their negative experiences in relationships/social settings it has often been ignored or overlooked, possibly not even understood (love what you said @DCooper about women experiencing this since the 1950s and the "shimmy shimmy ko ko bop" referencing this)

But we are also being distracted by the Jimmy part, much like society has overlooked the true experiences of women for a happier, more upbeat picture, and it is only when we take a closer look (and listen) to the AW part that really see what she is saying...truly an amazing song that I hope everyone who listens to will take a deeper look at

exactly — the beat is harsh, it trips over itself, and it feels purposeful, especially with the screaming part. it’s like being trapped in a nightmare

kinda reminds me of climax (horror movie) 😭 especially because of the way the song is split into two parts and how the second part devolves into insanity

It's funny that everyone talks about how fun and boppy the second part is but I also find it very dark and unsettling. Like that party with Jimmy is not good vibes, even though the beat makes us think otherwise. It's like some trippy drugged up loop that we're stuck in where she just repeats the same toxic things about Jimmy over and over, and I think by repeating the lyrics from a song from the 1950s she's also making a statement that people have been living similar experiences to her for a very long time. It's obviously a vibe but there's a lot of darkness beneath the surface in that part too.

The detail that Kintsugi shared that made my excitement for a particular song increase tenfold was the note that Candy Necklace is a "massive song"

Candy Necklace was at the bottom of my anticipated list, now it's top five. I originally thought it would turn out to be another Watercolor Eyes

The fact we thought it was a Patty disstrack but it ended up being even darker... can get over this song. I've said it many times but once again: Artist of the next (another) decade y'all

I’m so glad she released Aw early as a single Because if that was just casually in the album I would have died at first listen and not have been able to absorb any other tracks
I wonder I’d she’ll do one more single? She honestly doesn’t even need to at this point that song was godly and so is ocean Blvd I’m just shook by this woman. I’ve said this before but wow it’s actually embrassing to be other female artists rn…
and also, I’ve always been a jack stan and now I’m prouder to admit it in this group. Told you girlies!

I didn't like it at first either. But after reading the lyrics, it added a bit of context as to WHY she would mumble the lines. They're confessional and dark. Topics that some might feel too self conscious to talk about. Being 33 years old and still having to sneak around bc guys would rather keep you as a secret than to be seen with you in public. The fact that women sometimes arent believed when they are victims of abuse (especially after the johnny depp trial)
That's detrimental to one's mental health, and she's whispering it bc it hurts enough to almost break her.

My gosh, I really just wish the utmost happiness and love for her. "When's it gonna be my turn" hits much harder after hearing this track

Here's my quick review of A&W:

This is a diary entry. And she's continuing to prove to the world just why she earned the title of being the best American songwriter.

And the transition into Jimmy is like one of those moments where you're analyzing where you are in life, and it's kinda fucked. But you know what, fuck it. We're gonna go out and shake some ass. Bc at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter

Why though? Tons of great art takes time to understand. No lyric in this song is mumbled to the point of indecipherable, and maybe she doesn't want us to hear it all at once. There's a lot to unpack in this song, it's perhaps her boldest artistic statement yet.

Also it seems like there are very few people who can't be bothered, almost everything I've read about the song is extreme praise so it seems like the vocals aren't much an issue.

I think most of the album will be written with the stream of consciousness lyric style. In terms of song structure, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that BoZ said all of the longer songs on the album (Kintsugi, Fingertips, Taco Truck, A&W) break away from conventional song structures. Even the title track has three verses instead of a bridge

However, I think there will be conventionally written songs in "Sweet," "Paris, Texas," and "Margaret."
