The inclusion of the BTS footage *is* the whole point. This adds so many interesting layers to an already deeply strange, complex and elusive song.

    What an astonishing achievement.

it's a commentary on being a woman in Hollywood... everyone watching you, being under the eye of the camera, being constantly observed from all angles and all the different versions of yourself you put on for the public

lana talking in the background of the clips represents her taking charge of her life, finally being of charge of her art and direction and how the media around her is published

when they start singing "candy necklaces" and all the jewelry starts falling into blood

    it’s a beautiful video

The mix of BTS and then VERY elegant and grand official shots is to show that the Lana everyone knows isn’t the real idea of her and she also exists behind these made up stories / images meant to further an aesthetic

I wasn't sold at first, but... I'm sold

Not only does this work so beautifully with the process-is-product aesthetic on Ocean Blvd, but is honestly such a definitive LDR statement. Like, the fact that there's already discussions about the BTS shots being inauthentic just speaks to how well she executed this concept of "blurring the lines between real and the fake" (to quote a certain BtD classic). You never know what's a persona and what's genuine LDR (whatever that is!). And the audacity of ending the video with her posing with her (as yet) nonexistent Hollywood star? It doesn't get any more classic Lana. In awe

    Ma’am, she’s an actress!
Loved the concept of it being BTS, her look w/ the blonde wig and the hood… then when she takes the blonde wig off and there’s another wig underneath… homegirl has been watching drag race.
This eerie song deserved an eerie music video and that’s exactly what we got!

I found this video to be so captivating. The incorporation of the behind the scenes footage mixed with the official footage makes it feel like you’re watching the lives of these old Hollywood stars. That part with Lana talking about acting like a robot while dressed as Marilyn was really powerful as well. And of course she looked absolutely stunning. My favorite look has to be the one at the end with her Walk of Fame star. I can’t say this is what I was expecting this video to be, but I’m pleasantly surprised

Candy Necklace continues to be that song, elevated by an amazing video.

I've been listening to the album non-stop and I think I can finally put into words more or less how I feel about it. I'm very much in love with it, I feel like its the culmination of the themes from Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, giving way to a new page. After leaving the California imagery behind post-NFR to get to the Midwest in Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, she's again re-rooting herself into California, with ''Sweet'' kinda giving that book-end to the Midwest period in her life and bringing into the picture her home in the Northeast, in line with the overall theme of family and lineage, her roots. It's interesting to go on a retrospective of her discography and see how the persona falls apart by each album until we can see more of her being herself.
I'm very excited for the next record, I suppose she will continue exploring the family themes. Considering her romantic relationships also inspire heavily her music, I wonder if her relationship with Evan, who is also from New York, could bring the East Coast more to the forefront in her imagery. The songs about/with Mike are very much Cali beach, sunny weather and carefree, contrasting those that I assume could be about Jack (Candy Necklace, Kintsugi), which are darker tracks lyric and sound wise.
Anyway rant over, I needed to get these thoughts out of my head

Absolutely! LDR10’s soundscape being in the vein of A&W, Candy Necklace, first half of Taco Truck, and - yes - the instrumentals of the interludes would be a dream!

A&W is monumental and I hope that it’s just a taste of what’s to come in terms of Lana experimenting with structure and tempo changes/style shifts within a single song. She already experimented a bit on Black Bathing Suit, Text Book and Taco Truck (Fishtail, Candy Necklace and Peppers to a lesser extent, too) but what she managed to achieve with A&W is truly astonishing.

it’s like an epic that tells the story of her discography..if there was ever a “this is the story of Lana Del Rey” song, this would be it  this is her Odyssey

New review from Under the Radar. It’s an 85 and it counts for MC.

american whore would not have been the better title and it’s not because of vulgarity in my opinion. the themes of the album expand past just  sex or being an “american whore.” i think the current tunnel encapsulates the ideas expressed in the album well and i also loved the theory of the album kind of being like a journey through a tunnel, making your way to the light at the end (with it being very dark in the middle)

I don’t think Lana really cares about vulgar titles (Norman Fucking Rockwell) but I think the listening experience is supposed to be like entering a tunnel - apprehensive and contemplative in the beginning, darkening in the middle, and finally the light at the end of the tunnel. Because of this I think the current title is the only title that makes sense.
