I can hardly believe that after 693 pages we are still at the very beginning

Wouldn’t be a lana interview if it wasn’t vague and left us with twice the amount of questions

Remember the twitter rumors she was leaning into electronica and r&b. I kinda wish that was true

I love the photos so much - very 60s, very on brand with Milan as a fashion capital in the midcentury.

The interview is also full of so much insight and it’s interesting to see her psyche shift with her own geography. She reminds me of Joan Didion in that way; so much of what they both write is coloured by the surrounding landscape.

I like the idea of Lana’s “eras” being classified according to geography. I think what we, at this point in time, might call her “Golden Age” is the period during which she released those California albums. She flirted with the heartland a little bit on Chemtrails and Blue Banisters, almost inching towards it, but never quite getting there. Ocean Blvd, to me, transcended its geography and even returned to California at times. It now appears that this upcoming record—whether its final title will be Lasso or not—will mark a more pronounced geographical shift to her new home in the South and will usher in a new way of operating that is characteristic of the region.

Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don’t know why

I’m not sure if anyone else already mentioned this but this parallel is making me extremely emotional rn

"I'm entering a new era. It has to do with living in Oklahoma and feeling different. My eyes have seen so much open space, I've felt the wind, and that's the kind of energy I want to talk about now." It’s refreshing to hear her say this after months of hinting at a major shift. It feels almost like she's leaving Hollywood behind—not retiring or leaving LA entirely, but that her music might start reflecting a different, even more grounded perspective. There was a clear leap between LFL and NFR—a new chapter of self-possessed lyrics, at times a more positive outlook and deeply introspective lyrics that carried through COCC, BB and Tunnel. Now, as she says she's done with the ultra-personal, I can’t wait to see where this new direction takes her.

“When I get married, I'lI do it with someone who, like me, will think that love is enough. I'll be enough for him and he'll be enough for me. Someone to have children with if there are any and who chooses to stay home with me. I want it to be simple, a love that doesn't respect time. Like saving each other.”

This was a really good interview!

I do think it’s interesting how she ends the interview talking about marriage. She had to have been engaged by this point with how heavy on her mind it was

it’s interesting that she knew she had to leave Hollywood to find love/marriage. After wanting to leave since 2020 I’m glad she did and got what she wanted

Just drove through Des Allemands! Is this where Lana got hitched?! There’s a huge pond behind it…the Dufrene Pond

I just decided to make this thread into a Princess Superstar x LDR thread as she talks about her time in the studio with Lana regularly.

Within the last few days, PS made three Tik Toks about making Maha Maha, Catch and Release, and Golden Grill (She was adamant that this all happened in 2008, and not 2009):

    1.) Maha Maha Summary, Sept. 20 2023 -  https://www.tiktok.com/@therealprincesssuperstar/video/7280964687657831726?_t=8fzqNPmC07y&_r=1

    - In 2008, her husband introduced Princess Superstar to Lana, to produce music for, as PS was producing music at the time
    - Lana came to her apartment on the Lower East Side, in the East Village in a building called "Red Square" & sang for her
    - Princess Superstar wanted to make a 60s/70s track for Lana, and started with a drum track from Thomas Bradford, and later took it out for Maha Maha
    - PS introduced the lyric of Maha Maha, as she was studying at some yoga place

    2.)  Catch and Release Summary, Sept. 23 2023 - https://www.tiktok.com/@therealprincesssuperstar/video/7281738531242855722

    - Lana would always eat junk food and candy bars (M&Ms and pretzels) in the studio
    - Princess Superstar cut up a Beatles sample and had a Korg Synthesizer Keyboard with a pitch slider, and gave an instrumental called "Beatles Funhouse Party" to Lana
    - Said "Catch and Release" was about a guy Lana was obsessed with who ran a record label (likely Steven Mertens), but he dumped her for other blondes

    3.)  Golden Grill Summary, Sept. 24 2023 - https://www.tiktok.com/@therealprincesssuperstar/video/7282901182350150954?_t=8fzqxhrcWsM&_r=1

    - Claimed the 4 songs (Catch and Release, Moi Je Joue, Golden Grill, and Maha Maha) she produced for Lana were all produced in 2008
    - Princess Superstar called Golden Grill,  "Live Forever" originally and wanted to make it a 60s/ 70s James Bond-like theme song, but Lana wanted it to call it Golden Grill instead (both were obsessed with Grillz and Hip Hop culture)
    - Golden Grill sampled a 70s record and used a loop in Abelton Live 5 + added sounds from her Korg keyboard
-PS put Golden Grill on her sound cloud:

    4.)  Moi Je Joue Summary, Oct. 4th,  2023 - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8rdjtBx/
    - Again claimed she met LDR in 2008, started working with her immediately, and sampled Moi Je Joue by Brigitte Bardot, as she liked Brigitte
    - Lana asked PS to rap on it, so she did it in French
    - she is putting it onto sound cloud

*also strange, but PS gets bullied a lot on Tik Tok for reminiscing her career - it makes me sad

“I was brave and it would’ve been easier to stay” breaks my heart every time. I had an emotionally abusive ex (not that whatever ex this is about is abusive, although tbh I’d argue that cheating is inherently abusive in a way) and I beat myself up for years because I put up with his shit for so long. I felt weak because I did that

But eventually I was brave enough to leave

Sorry for the overly personal paragraph LOL. This just touches me on such a deep level. Violet is so poignantly, heart-breakingly beautiful and it saddens me that it’s so underrated

"not everyone needs to pretend to love their girlfriend just because their mother is dying"

i... have gone through something kind of similar to Lana here, which I have never given myself time or space to really think about in this perspective

so this hits different, for sure

Alright, so this poem also seems to be about her mother...? At least thats how I am interpreting now after her Mother's Day post and considering the content of LA Who Am I To Love You:

    "Secrets about [...] mother"
So Lana is alluding to something noone knows about her mum

Then, "all of the people you meet on the street will reiterate lies that she uttered", meaning her mum might have told others something Lana considers untrue.

Lana is experiencing nightmares, waking up "late at night", with "tiny beads of sweat dot[ting her] forehead", after dreaming of escaping to the island of Catalina

"But alas, this is a real life - and it's been a real fight just to keep my mind from committing treason"
You can only commit treason to someone who trusts you, so it must be someone close to Lana - and again, it is a woman, because in the next paragraph, she says "She told the townspeople i was crazy"
Lana grew up in the small town of Lake Placid, and I interpret this as Patty telling everyone lies to hide Lana's alcoholism which lead to her going to boarding school?
Now, the "treason" might be to just spill everything about their relationship. Lana has said in the past she can't talk about some stuff as long as some people are still alive.

"i've gone scorched earth" aka Lana's life has been hell
"Would standing in front of Mt Rushmore feel like the great American homecoming I've never had?"
Could this mean Lana's mum has never been proud of her, or her achievements?

And then, "Would the magnitude [...] take the place of the warm embrace I've never known?"
So it seems Lana is not coming from a very loving family.

The poem then ends with Lana preparing dinner, giving us insight in what's going through her head when she is alone.
