Her post abt the sound check- I genuinely love her singing for free alone. It was the highlight of my 2019 Chicago show (along with cinnamon girl) but i really love her singing that song!

Maybe an unpopular opinion but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when celebrities post shit like that and then the next slide is a promotion for their new album/movie/fucking perfume.
Like, I'm glad people are spreading awareness and all, but it really reads as "ONLY WE CAN STOP THIS GENOCIDE, THE TIME IS NOW! Also, buy my new perfumes available soon in my shop, thanks!"

It's kind of a lyric which a teenager would write on the internet
"Skinny-dip" in general is a really cringy slang for me, it's something that should've stayed in the 2010s and people should've come up with a better word

For me it’s the “skinny-dip” lyric, I cringe at it so badly idk why, but yeah that one is pretty bad too.
Imo this song had so much potential, it just sounds not well-thought out.

Just thought of another opinion lol
fishtail embodies so many eras. AKA, btd, chemtrails, honeymoon, lfl… it gives everything. It’s so charming with the muffled vocals, the heavy production on the chorus, the callback to Jump. I think that song deserved much more love. It’s like the child of all her records. I don’t understand why it isn’t more loved

Lana fans hating Nikki Lane is funny not gonna lie what's especially funny is when the haters get scared when they see Lana with her and are afraid that she's going to do country music, like...you don't know Lana at all?

This is so true. As an album by a pop artist, the world still hasn't caught up with how monumental Ultraviolence was/is.

notthatdreamy liked a post in a topic by Ultra Violet in Unpopular Lana Opinions
Don't get me wrong, I love all the channels making "Ultraviolence" versions of other Lana songs, and many of them I listen to regularly, but it's like we all forgot Ultraviolence has some songs that aren't rock-based at all and also has other sounds that branch out a lot more. There is so much focus on making a song sound like rock and calling it an Ultraviolence Version, but no one is noticing the soft jazz, the vintage sounds, the piano and the strings as the part that is distinctly Lana. In fact, the album sounding too "classic rock" is exactly what Dan Auerbach said was wrong with the original record before he produced it.
I absolutely get that rock is probably easier for amateur musicians to do on their computers, but yeah, I still kinda see it as making Ultraviolence more shallow than it is. It's such a complex album, I'm always searching for more and never being satisfied!

i really love your setlist! i've been thinking about how i'd improve or change the setlist myself, this is what i came up with while trying to be realistic:
A&W Peppers (the instantly upbeat vibe of the song would fit so naturally after A&W's ending! and the dancers could kill it here!) Diet Mountain Dew [w/ jazzy piano outro leading into...] Candy Necklace Young & Beautiful [interlude / quick change behind the curtain or whatever] Fishtail [shortened] (bc come on, she's literally getting her hair done at this part of the show!! lol) Tulsa Jesus Freak [shortened] Born To Die Cherry Blue Jeans [maybe w/ a sort of extended band jam outro to give her time to go down to the barricade?] The Grants Ride [w/ monologue intro of course!] Grandfather Please Stand On The Shoulders of My Father (i think this song would sound so ethereal live, especially w/ the backup singers doing the "three white butterflies" line!) Norman Fucking Rockwell Chemtrails Over The Country Club [w/ outro drums leading into the intro drums of...] West Coast Let The Light In Brooklyn Baby Taco Truck x VB Summertime Sadness The Greatest Cherry Blossom [or any other recent piano ballad really! something from BB would be preferable, she could switch it up throughout the tour] Video Games Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard it seems like a p long setlist, but some of the songs would be shortened so i dont think it would be totally impossible for her to pull it off! but of course this is just a dreamland of a setlist while trying to maintain some realism LOL

Honestly my hopes for the next Marina album center around some shit she's said in the past. She's talked about greek mythology before IIRC and wanting to do an album around that, and I personally think that would be the move to make. I'm going to pick my words carefully and deliberately here - L&F was a low point in her discography, and I do think that Ancient Beans WAS a step up sonically and a return to the ~energy of "old Marina", despite lyrically being VERY pegged to the zeitgeist of it's creation.
I feel like the way to do a "clean slate" here is to just go feral with a whole ass concept album and step into a different person(s)/persona(s).
I'd LOVE to see her go back to that greek mythology idea and give us a concept album, and even find a way to work in some of that New Woke Feminism she always getting criticized about. Write a tortured ballad from the perspective of Persephone. Sing about being tricked by a man to eat the pomegranate seeds, sing about how it doesn't get easier spending all the time away from the sun, small slices of your time stolen from a man who felt you were his to take and his to trick. Metaphor up the lack of choice for a woman in it, and how so many things are seen as 'duty' because a man deemed it so.
Flip shit around too, go wild. Rewrite the whole concept of 'Pandora's Box' into something more lighthearted and fun. Give us an uptempo bop about a girl who was bored with the world and there she found a box filled with chaos and wonder and she set it all free, the good and the bad, just for the contrast it all brings. Was it a little bit stupid to unleash evil on the world? Sure, but now it makes all of the good that much better because we all know what "worse" looks like, and it's the space in-between that we should have a little fun with now.
I feel like Eros, Aphrodite, and Psyche would be a 'perfect' story to Marina-fy, since it deals with jealous women and game playing and the absurdity of it all, and how even if you manage to adhere to impossible beauty standards (Aphrodite's three impossible tasks), it's *still* not enough. There's a whole lot of "jealous woman" stereotype shit in there, that would be absolutely low hanging fruit to hit with the Marina Bat of "women should build each other up, ugh".
I feel like, in the spirit of something like "How to be a Heartbreaker", do a fun take on 'Helen of Troy' and the whole Trojan War (to go hand in hand with my idea of "rewriting" Pandora's Box to be a bit more fun); Helen was bored af of her man, she wanted a little excitement, she decided to mess around with a man on the side, and now we're at "Oops I sparked a war, lets make it his fault, tee hee hee, look at that, the gods are all protecting me, dames can get away with it all" or some shit.
Have I said this before? I feel like I have.
Idk. But it would be nice to see.

I think it is important for everyone on this forum to take a step back and realize how lucky we all are to be in the middle of this silly discourse about Lana Del Rey rather than starving in Gaza with no internet, electricity, food, or water. I also recommend that people watch the firsthand accounts of civilians who are begging us to listen.

To be fair I can see how celebrities feel pressured to give their basically useless 2 cents on every current issue because society for some reason has come to the agreement that they should "use their platform" or whatever. I remember back during BLM in 2020, if a celebrity didn't go out of their way to post against racism and police brutality, twitter users assumed that meant they SUPPORTED it (lol, wtf?) Then twitter users started complaining that they were just "all talk" and celebrities started being pressured to show receipts of donations. I remember when Lana specifically didn't post anything about it, people used it to leverage the idea of her being racist.
Now I think it's about time we step back and look at how absurd this SJW shit is and agree that it's ok for celebrities to just... be quiet like in the good 'ol days, or else they'll keep coming out making ignorant statements
(i'm not really gonna touch on the issue at hand with Israel cause i'm saying all this generally)
