I mean I get wanting to find some hidden meaning behind elements of it but... I honestly feel like it’s not that deep ? She probably just picked a template with the quotes and was like “oh this looks cool”

I think it’s very obvious that this cover is intended to be a self-parody in response to all the criticism she got for her cover arts over the last year.
 
I don’t think it’s the real one, but rather just a “placeholder” that was meant to incite shock and conversation. She’s basically embracing the infamy that overshadowed every musical endeavour she did in 2020 and turning it into a promotional strategy for her art. 
 
This is the same woman who writes beautiful, multi-layered complex songs time and time again, and whose visuals consistently show effort (look at the Chemtrails Over the Country Club video if you think otherwise - there’s a lot of investment there clearly). 
 
 I think we should give her more credit than a lot of people have been lately. Reminder that she literally said in a 2019 interview that she stopped promoting her records after Ultraviolence because “nobody cared” - she knows what people are saying (or not saying - it seems she feels the media will talk about anything BUT the actual music, and she’s right)  and seems to respond to that through everything surrounding the music. 

I just gotta say.. there is no way some of y’all think that’s the real cover.. there is absolutely no way any label executive/ben/ed would approve that, especially when they refused to let her use the original nfr cover, which, admittedly, wasn’t that terrible. (also, to everyone calling it iconic/better than cocc’s - you’re straight up delusional ?, how are you gonna try to excuse Literal picsart editing done in approximately 3 minutes)

not trying to stir the pot but it definitely seems she is unhappy with either how she looks

all i'm gonna say is that i've found my love for BTD again after all these years and things were so good back then. it's clear her team doesn't give a shit and neither does she, she's one of the biggest names worldwide (or at least used to be) yet she's acting like a SoundCloud artist

i literally made this in a towel right after i got out of the shower and it took max 5 minutes  even if she likes the aesthetic of the other photo im sure there's a nicer and better way to express that same aesthetic... manifesting that not being the cover

sorry but im one of those ppl who do judge a book by the cover, an album cover for me creates the visuals of what i imagine in my mind as i listen to the songs, especially in regards to colours. for example id probs love ultraviolence as a whole album less if the cover wasn’t so moody and b&w. so ill definitely be changing the cover if that’s the official one, here’s hoping it’s not tho

that picture is ugly and that’s not an opinion that’s a fact. and what makes it ugly is the editing, it’s monstrous, disgusting, and vile. i’m guessing that’s the general consensus, i don’t think anyone would be okay with this picture being the artwork. at least chemtrails had its meaning and expressed the album’s thematics to some extent and what not, but this picture says exactly nothing about the sound/vibe/theme of the album. the only thing that give hints are the title and the release date. both are very americana.
 
and this is not me being negative, this is me asking for professionalism. lana’s visuals have been part of her success, if it weren’t for her aesthetic, lana wouldn’t be lana and she wouldn’t be where she is today. the first thing a person sees when buying/streaming an album is the artwork, not even the title!! and an artwork HAS to sell, especially in Lana’s case, since her music is extremely intertwined with her visuals.
 
also considering that mike dean posted the album announcement on his stories i’m guessing he is involved and the album has electronic hip hop influences. so that gives me hope that the damned selfie is not the actual artwork. i mean, a boy can dream right?

Wow. Chemtrails era is really over! One of the messiest roll outs with such a short period of time. Still love the album. It’s just a mood album though.
