TEMPORARY Chemtrails Over the Country Club - Pre-Release Thread: OUT March 19th, 2021

Recommended Posts

She’s gonna give us 3 folk songs, 2 country songs, 3 psychedelic rock songs, 3 summer rock socks, 2 songs about drugs, 2 hip hop / trap beat songs, a spoken word interlude, and a 27 minute opening track which is just her picking petals off a flower saying “he loves me, he loves me not” over and over  while a bird chirps in the background

So Lana is hinting at ''new folk'', ''country'' sound and Jack is hinting at them recording another album (their third together) next year. How is this board even up and working this morning?

I'm soooo excited for the album.

I love the way she speaks in the interview, it was so interesting to read. I can't imagine why people would be complaining that she wasn't more specific about the album, I personally find it very exciting that we don't much know about it. We know the album is coming soon and we'll hear it probably this month, I'd rather get little insights into her as a person which she gave us plenty of. Her thoughts were very relevant and spot on, in my opinion.

Praying that Dealer made the final cut.

Some may be disappointed with the interview because there's basically two kinds of interviews related to album releases: hard-hitting and thorough interviews about the actual music, songs, songwriting process and production, and the much more content-free 'celebrity' pieces, the kind that Rolling Stone now traffics in, as do most magazines that pretend to be about music but which are actually about celebrities, gossip, the star system, and 'lifestyles of the rich and famous,' as in 'See Harry Style's new haircut here before anyone else!' And there are dozens of websites which pander to the same latter audience.

This interview, as I said above, was not bad; it was obviously sincere and thoughtful. But it addressed LDR the individual and person more than it did LDR the artist, musician and songwriter.

I've read old Rolling Stone and Musician magazine interviews where Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Rickie Lee Jones and others of that ilk and era really get into the deep details and specifics of their music, including guitar tunings and all kinds of other hard facts. Tori Amos has also given such interviews.

But LDR never, in my experience, never gets into deep details like that, and that's okay. Her manner remains 'human' and authentic, but always somehow vague. I think her mind is rather vague, and she 'escapes' that via her songwriting and poetry writing, which are not vague.

The only “jazzy parts” of HM are the outro to the title track (“dreaming away your life”) and some parts of Terrence.
All of songs are rooted in pop / alternative with some Subtle elements that she says the album will sound like lol.

I agree, GLF.

There's obviously an aura of 'Old Hollywood Noir' about the title track of HM, some 'jazzy' influences on 'Terrence,' which also has Old Hollywood vibes, and there's a slight 'jazz/blues' vibe to 'The Blackest Day,' but all really evoke 'Old Hollywood' more than authentic jazz of any kind. I think LDR really meant 'Old Hollywood,' not only the Noir era but also semi-noir films like 'Gilda,' centered around a beautiful woman who is also a musical performer and may or may not be evil. Music in films like 'Gilda' tended to be Big Band and filmed in black and white, and it's those that I think LDR had in the back of her mind when producing parts of HM.

She's really bad at describing her own music. From what I understand from the TJF snippet and the description of this record being for those with overactive minds, it will be more psychedelic. Probably more in the direction of Venice Bitch, but with more of a flare.

I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.

Jared, darling I can't tell . . . you seemed really mad at the idea of the album based on the Tulsa Jesus Freak excerpt in the last few posts you made. And I've seen the light of how good Jack can be but you first said he could do no wrong, and then he should distance himself from Lana. But now you're hyped?

I was going to take a break from this thread but I NEED this answered! :derpna2:

It's not an easy task to follow up an album like NFR. There are so many things that can go wrong. And Lana's instagram ''letters'' have turned me into a nervous, paranoid wreck. This new interview with Jack eased my nerves.

does Jared contradict himself? Very well then, he contradicts himself. He is large - he contains multitudes.

I'm really glad she mentioned loving and requiring strong melodies, because that's also what I am drawn to in all music. And LDR is really good, amazingly good, at creating strong melodies, though not uniformly. No one can expect great melodies 100% of the time.

I remember how she said we were going to see the return of the "Born To Die strings" on 'UV' and that didn't happen. Or how 'Honeymoon' was supposed to be reminiscent of the golden age of Jazz with a touch of soft grunge, but it ended being this beautiful mix of classical/cinematic instrumentation and trap beats. Or when 'Lust for Life' was supposed to have this doo-wop/60s Pop sound, but that ended up just being some influences on the title track and 'Get Free'. Finally, when 'NFR' was supposed to have all these Red Hot Chili Peppers influences, but the record ended up sounding more folky/progressive and heavily piano influenced...

I think Lana is just not super good at accurately describing her own sound. :die:
