Unfortunately, this is because of her fans. Every time she tried to evolve as an artist, they requested her to go back to her old art. Even this album rollout, the way she talks about going back to pop and putting pieces of broken mirror reflects this. Notice everyone saying Gaga is back, implying that what she’s been doing for years is not Gaga.

LMs are super toxic, not against other fanbases but against Gaga herself. I saw many so-called "fans" who complained bc she's pushing her 40 yo and she's going to build a family. They're saying she's no longer attractive or honest... I readed super mean things coming from Gaga's fans or ex-fans and I think this affected her a lot. Bc Gaga is an artist who has a certain ego cause she cares about doing the things well and she care abt being a serious artist (and ofc being perceveid as a serious artist). She tends to be humble and to accept the criticism to propose artistically new stuffs.

But yeah, "Mayhem" is a response to criticism. The theme of the album is a retrospective about her life with fame.

I do not perceive her approach as fake tho, she clearly worked on a way to unite her new artistic background to her old standards.

I see what you’re saying, but also you could say this about many other fanbases. I think most (if not all) fanbases are toxic unfortunately. Lana’s fanbase can definitely be toxic at times  I guess it varies artist to artist, but her fanbase seems generally less toxic compared to others imo

I love this new era so much. As a Gaga stan since I was 13, I feel like she's really enjoying this.

I'm one of those who are not afraid to say that Joanne and Artpop >>>>>>> BTW and The Fame.

Naybe it's just because I felt those 2 albums the most during high school times, but I'm so mad about how 'fans' nowadays complains how she's not 'mainstream' anymore. I prefer it that way, let's leave Poker Face and Bad Romance to who doesn't want any artist evolution. Can't wait for Mayhem 🫶🏻

The whole “she’s just rehashing her old sound” argument is so dumb to me considering she’s done So many different sounds since TFM/BTW. Just recently she released a jazz album and at this current moment she has a song like Die With A Smile charting at number 1. Why would her doing dark pop again be a bad thing? And I don’t think she’s just copy+pasting what she did 10+ years ago. This is a return to form but it sounds fresh and elevated. Gaga is the last artist that a “she’s inauthentically trying to replicate what she’s already done!” argument would make sense for.
