I keep forgetting that this whole album is produced by someone new. I have no issues with Rick Nowels but it will be so exciting to hear a full album by another producer. I can't imagine loving Ultraviolence as much without Dan Auerbach's input.

I’m super excited about the cover because it’s a great song. It’s perfect for her and it seems like her version is gonna give us mad UV vibes. Plus I’d prefer to get a song now that’s not on the album since we’re getting the album at the end of the month anyway. My biggest concern is it’ll be so good that I’ll wish it was on the album.

I feel like we've heard too much of the songs already. Coming from the same person who would die for the HQ previews, but we've really heard like 50% of the album and it's probably better we might just get nothing until album release. So this is cover is great

She was a grown woman with a very carefully crafted image that was a mix between real and false interests, personality traits, etc. I don't think she's changed to try and become relevant- god knows she was relevant back in the btd and paradise days when she was still singing about daddies. I don't think she's trying to be woke either (cough cough, hillsong, cough cough churchome cough). She's got her own money and fame now and singing about having daddies and being put into movies by daddies and murdering towns with her daddy just isn't relevant to her now. Singing songs about men who think they're a lot cleverer than they are, or dealing with fame etc is. I've talked about how she's become someone else in a negative way before, but if she was still singing BTD-esque songs instead of songs that actually reflect her current situation I'd find it a lot less genuine tbh.

i’ll never understand the hate tbh. i think it’s so unique imo. the text to me seems so retro and gives me a sense of old disney cartoons and the art brings in this coven like witchy presence. i’m so happy i pre ordered that version

I really love the imagery of the shipping terminals. The combination of the beauty of nature and the sea and the setting sun against something that's so industrial and manmade. It's like the electricity pylons in that one pic from last year and also Tropico. It's so interesting because they are literally ugly but they look good

One thing I want to say (to you but I'll just let you live...)

Album covers are NEVER good. They're very rare when they're instantly eye-pleasing. Do you guys think The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band artwork was universally loved when it came out? Now it's a classic visual. Same with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon... who would have thought such a simple, basic, digitally-colored photography would become so legendary?

For a more recent example, Beyonce's self-titled... Artwork still hated by many fans; however it is iconic and recognizable.

    that's a fucking good idea

In the beginning, there was the sun, nothing but the sun moving through the heavens. Covering the surface of the earth were the seas and the seas were turmoil. With civilization came the surfer with his urge to conquer these moving walls of water.

    [Doing Time]
    [Venice Bitch]
    [Mariner’s Apartment Complex]
    [Norman fucking Rockwell]

The greatest journey is the journey of the mind. Since this is what determines the journey of life. Have you ever had the feeling that your mind was on a journey? A voyage of discovery? That sometimes it has to make long passages on dark, uncharted seas? And at other times it discovers bright islands of beauty or of truth. Islands it will know from this day forward, that it can always steer for and find in a storm. While the gales of life blow themselves out and the enormous seas of misfortune, or pain, or sorrow, or doubt subside into calm. Well if you’ll come, I’d like to take you on such a voyage of the mind…

I can’t believe we thought she was being lazy and doing nothing while she was actually preparing to scalp us bald by giving us everything we ever wanted.

I mean this era went from dry to iconic in 2 days:

-the cover is a complete serve out of left field, it’s meant to be both loved and hated and over the top, but it fits so perfectly
-she gives us LIME GREEN vinyl which is hideous and wonderful and perfect all at the same time
-most of the songs are 5ish minutes long and the album is over an hour
-THAT TRAILER. I mean my god we wished for surf vibezzz and she gives it to us. I wish for beautiful wide shots of the city and sea during the golden hour and she gives them to me. She throws in some witchy shit which I’m all about. Cap it off with some psychological mumbo jumbo that I’ve come to know and love from her.

Lit rally a dream, a beautiful dream. If there is one thing I can take from it all it seems so very “in your face” in a way I didn’t expect from her and it makes me so proud.

MAC: "You can see my heart burning in the distance"
California burning in the background of the cover
California is her heart (and the song is the heart of the album??)
    ugh her MIND !

The tracklist honestly is so poignant, starting out with the playful optimism of Nfr, Mac, and Vb & knowing how it all ends so hollow with Hope. Hope is much more powerful to me this way (as the closing track). And knowing that how to disappear is in the middle paints it in such a different light. It is the same empty dream she’s been singing of since Video Games. I can already tell this album is going to be a very personal and heartbreaking soul journey
