I think Guns and Roses is so underrated, it brings up such an atmosphere. Probably it’s the languid repetition in the chorus that makes it sound boring to some but I find it to be dreamy.

in a weird way the overproduction of BTD is one of the things i love about it. like it's just SO much, it's insane and over the top and kitschy - if you'll let me use that word - and very 2012.

some tracks on BTD are TOO overproduced though - lolita especially. some songs i really prefer demos of (lolita obviously, as well as diet mtn dew & without you) but the over the top-ness of BTD is just fun to me

As much as i like the sound of her lower register on record, it never sounds great live because I don’t think it’s her real range/where she’s comfortable singing. There is a reason absolutely nothing before Born to Die has as much low register singing, because I don’t think that’s her sweet spot.

Unpopular LanaBoards opinion: I've officially decided that COCC isn't better than Norman. While COCC is obviously more cohesive, I genuinely enjoy almost every song on NFR. I'm falling out of love with Breaking Up Slowly, Dance till we Die and For Free. The first eight songs are INCREDIBLE, though.

Lana feels poor in the sense that I feel she is more human and closer to people, she has always liked to get out of her mundane circle and be around the poor (the trailer park, the homeless, alcoholics associations). It's a quality but I can't stand her bringing it back every time she has never experienced real poverty, she has chosen it as a way of life, as a way out of her rich cocoon but d 'come back to it. always for safety (she only stayed a few months in an old mobile home during the AKA adventure before returning to her luxury loft in New York with her sister).

It is true that with all the respect I have for her, without her father and his connections, she would never have succeeded, at least in the whole world, and that is why it remains exceptional. The start of her career was very expensive and very luxurious (I remember the first concerts in Paris which were in expensive places, clips like Born to die made in Versailles for an unknown singer ...), so I see where she wants to go with the poor thing of life and i feel like she has it under control but complaining and remembering that she lived a shit life, ah Lana i don't believe you at all and i dont would never have mercy.

people who haven’t been through certain hardships or even just have an open mind to all sorts of artists expressions will simply never get it lol. They lack the compassion and understanding to realize art like that is just as worthy of existing as songs and about sunshine and rainbows. They find the song appalling (which, in a way, they should) but misplace their outrage to the artist and the song, instead of the message behind it.

They’re mad at Lana for making a song about abuse when they need to be mad at abuse.

    You said it all.

I don't like Jack, he's not suited to his world. He made it generic and has trouble entering his world. Lana needs to come back to the producers who made her successful because they manage to capture this sound and this melancholy perfectly. She's not like all those basic indie singers that Jack could produce and give songs without a universe, Lana has one more thing, much bigger. She's really good when she has great orchestrations and catchy songs. I don't think she should walk away from her mentors and stay with a winning team, I know they will know how to develop her in their own way.

She has some interesting lo-fi / acoustic songs she made in her early days, but Jack wasn't on it and it had a different flavor, more amateurish and rawer. His pop songs were cute and stuck in the head.

But the sad part is that with NFR she finally got the recognition she wanted from the critics, and I think she wants to work with Jack on that too. The critics are so crap to consider NFR his best album.

Chemtrails would be perfect as a B-side album, not an official album.

She needs a new team (PR, stylist, manager, creative director, photographer, the whole shebang)

I don't know why but I'm actually liking the BB cover  The fact that she probably edited it herself makes it even more hilarious. Why am I unable to imagine Lana just sitting on her phone and editing her selfies like we do with our fan edits. She is truly a part of this fandom

Sometimes people online act as if Lana lusts after sugardaddies to provide for her but she's never sang or said anything that indicates that. She's only used the word daddy but that doesn't mean anything.

I agree. While I do think that Lana needs to get out of her comfort zone of using Chuck's photography so much, I don't think there's anything wrong with involving her family in her work. I do think there's something distasteful about how involved her friends are though. I'm hoping it's just a one-time thing for COCC and that her friends don't keep showing up in her music videos and definitely not on her album covers. I didn't mind her using Alex and Ashley from time to time because those are her dancers so they at least had some association with Lana's music. Using her random LA friends though... I hope it ends after this record...

Yall gotta stop watching twitter so much though. She literally had the biggest controversy of her career 7 months ago yet the video is getting tons of views, the song is charting the same as they always do

the stuff only really makes an impact within a small circle of twitter and beyond that it really doesn’t do much.

also, you can only worry about the consequences and defend her so many times. She clearly doesn’t care if 1,000 people are mad at her on twitter. So I don’t think we should really waste any more energy on worrying about her public perception

I like thats she's not giving the normal woke liberal talking points, she's saying what she's really thinking, that narcissism is the real problem not a certain political philosophy, and I respect that. if you disagree with her thats obviously fine but idk why we have to pretend like she's done something awful by doing some independent thinking

I didn’t find Question for the Culture to be controversial at all, I had read it as I would read any other announcement she has made and didn’t think too much about it. It wasn’t until I went online the next day and saw everybody attacking her that I was more aware of the culture she was referring to and I think the public’s reaction and them turning it into a race war just proved the point she was making.

Her listing those women in the admiring way she did was to say “look at these women who sing about the same stuff that I do, but are seen as empowering figures in the feminist community, whereas I am seen as archaic in my beliefs that allegedly set women back hundreds of years.”  I get that fans say they’re “traumatized” by her posting that because it’s never fun to watch someone you care about be berated by the masses, but I think that kind of indirectly trivializes the things that Lana was saying and contributes to the erasure of inclusivity of women in feminism and perpetuates the narrative that women need to adopt traditionally-masculine characteristics in order to be empowering (and by the way, I’m not saying women who adopt those characteristics are doing so on purpose just to fit a standard of feminism, there are so many more factors besides gender that play into why someone is the way they are). Why can’t women just be the way they are, even if that’s more “fragile” as Lana has identified herself to be, and still be empowering?  I admire her ability to come out and say something like this - something that people may not be able to metabolize in times like these.

lol y'all acting like the same people who are consuming these leaks haven't bought 800 other copies of the album. The casual listener won't be affected or probably doesn't even know it happened.

The grandiose production is what makes it so great tbh

If everything fits well together production-wise then I don't see what the problem is
