    She took it down

I don't see that. She documented what's going on in her town with zero commentary from her and no images of her...how could she possibly make it LESS about herself? Other than posting nothing...which people have been scolding her for.

i think she's just really unaware of the kind of consequences her actions have been bringing lately. while I don't think she is ill-intentioned, i do think she's showing her ignorance and privilege on full display lately. it's really unfortunate because i do think she has a good heart, but at this point it's clear she doesn't know anything about what she's doing. hopefully she can do right, delete the initial post, and just post a donation link on her story or something. it obviously wouldn't make things perfect again - the damage is already done. but i think the least she can do is TRY to make things right. she owes it to the black community and to George Floyd.

Look everything is a choice. Lana has been consistently been making very ignorant choices. Even here instead of showing videos of peaceful protests or violence and brute force by the police - of which there are countless examples online - she has posted 1. a video of a burnout cop car (which people speculate to have been a prop used to incite rage on the right), 2. a photo op of her friends posing at a protest where she has tagged them which reeks of privilege because black protesters are going to great lengths to reduce their digital footprint and protect their identity because they fear for their wellbeing AND 3. a video of people looting.

I do not wish to "cancel" her but she is giving many many valid reasons for people to criticise her.

Damned if she doesn't and damned if she does lol as always.

She was there on the ground which is more than a lot of the online detractors can probably say for themselves. Unfortunately it probably wasn't the best idea to post a really long static of video of people looting where you can actually make out some of their faces.

The irony is if she didn't post this we wouldn't have known she was there and she would have be condemned for that. When in reality showing up is doing more than sharing something like so many other celebrities are doing. I don't doubt she has donated to bail funds either but again unless she publicly posts it - which would be self-serving - she would be condemned. Yes it's a long way from condemning racist and violent police but she was literally dating one I'm not expecting her to be as great as she should be which in itself is a privledge. This is far bigger than her and now she hasn't remained silent. So...

Omg now you're complaining about HOW she posted, even though we know now that she was at the protest?

SZA (whoever she is idk? sorry) is reaching. Of things to be offended by, she is picking a weird non-existent sentiment that wasn't even implied. You really can twist a statement to mean anything these days I suppose, as long as there is enough public outcry about something else.

    ETA:
What is this LUNACY??????????? This is really dangerous logic. Someone having an opinion on something does not automatically mean they assume the absolute binary on other opinions.

For example, if someone thinks women are strong, it does not mean they think men are weak.

Saying artists can be overt and sexualised, does not mean that they cannot be feminine.

Aggressively reading between the lines and finding a lens to be offended through is absolutely counterproductive to any intelligent conversation or argument because it means that you can disagree with everything for the sake of it without base. It's the logic of flat-earthers who have no scientific evidence to stand on but the rebuttal is 'well we don't know for sure!'. Lana's clumsy first and subsequent tirades do not imply at all that black women are not "GENTLE soft ethereal beings", she is addressing that she feels resentment that she can't explore the same (whether or not that is true is absolutely up for debate, as we have seen).

Consider what you can extrapolate from this statement:
I like the music of Lana del Rey, and London Grammar. I don't like music from Beyonce, I think it's too poppy.

Based on what isn't said here and the 'implied suggestion' argument, here are the things you could say:
I only like music from white people I don't like music from black people I only like female singers I hate male singers I only like alternative music I hate pop music I don't like Australian music I'm homophobic as I don't listen to any queer identifying artists On and on, when I'm just saying some artists I like, and I don't really like Beyoncé.

There are merits to the arguments that the name-dropping of black artists is unfortunate, but purposefully creating reasons to be offended by looking at words that are unsaid is extremely counterproductive, and just give the concession that people are entitled to be offended at everything based on nothing.

I am so sure she is mostly talking about Kim Gordon.

"The extract read: “Today we have someone like Lana Del Rey, who doesn’t even know what feminism is, who believes women can do whatever they want, which, in her world, tilts toward self-destruction, whether it’s sleeping with gross old men or getting gang raped by bikers. Equal pay and equal rights would be nice. Naturally, it’s just a persona. If she really truly believes it’s beautiful when young musicians go out on a hot flame of drugs and depression, why doesn’t she just off herself?”

No idea, honestly. I just don't think we should make the assumption that it's because she doesn't care.

Like, maybe she really doesn't care, but there are also other possibilities.

If I endured thousands of vitriolic comments, my phone number being leaked, friends turning against me, and fuck knows what else, I don't know that I'd be in a great state of mind. Again, I'm not saying that some of the backlash wasn't deserved, because I definitely think her comments were problematic af. Regardless, the aftermath must've been pretty awful for her.

I do not know Bekim well but clearly y'all use him so let that be an introduction enough? Lel I'm looking forward to knowing him better through this interview, as I'm sure all of you are. His pictures get lots of likes so let's see if we shatter his image as LB sex symbol or anything. Also drag him for sending me a formatting nightmare!

I'm interested in the intersectionality of some of these questions. Like I'd love for a way to see how many users are lesbian women, how many of the gay men are white vs. POC, etc. etc.

Would also be kinda morbidly curious how people view the recent Instagram controversy though that could probably be done in a regular thread poll and I also sorta don't want to know how many of you are terrible people thought that shit was acceptable.

    Hi all,

I've wanted to do this for a while and since my uni semester is wrapping up and I'm sick with nothing else to do I thought it would be a good time to get started. A quick FAQ:

    What the hell is this?
A demographics survey is a way to find out information about the userbase here at lanaboards.com. Essentially, who are you as a lana fan, outside of being a lana fan and is there any overlap between us outside of our mutual love (and sometimes hate) of Lana Del Rey. The type of information this survey will seek to find out are: age, sex, gender, location, political stance, favourite lana albums, favourite lana singles etc.

    Is this compulsory?
Absolutely not! This is purely out of interest and no one is obliged to fill out anything. However, participation would be greatly appreciated as it gives a more accurate representation of the forum. Also I can't compensate anyone for participating, this b poor as hell.

    I'm interested! Where's the survey?
The purpose of this thread right now is to figure out the logistics of how to do this. Last time I did this I used surveymonkey and it was frankly a nightmare trying to collate all the data once the survey was filled out. There's also limits on how many responses can be recorded before a premium account was needed.
I want to know if you have any alternate suggestions of websites to use. So far I was thinking of using Google Forms. The problem with this is that it requires a gmail account to fill out, however I will not have access to the email address you use to complete the survey, it's all anonymous. Is this something that would deter you from completing the survey? I'm open to other (preferably free) options and want to hear your thoughts.

Here is the current list of questions I was thinking of using, but please suggest more in this thread! Please try and keep them either related to demographics or Lana though. Also nothing lewd thanks

    1. How old are you?
    2. What is your gender?
    3. What is your sexual orientation?
    4. What country were you born in?
    5. What country do you currently reside in?
    6. Please describe your race/ethnicity
    7. What religion do you identify with?
    8. Politically, where do you stand?
    9. Favourite Lana Del Rey album/EP?
    10. Favourite Lana Del Rey Single?
    11. Favourite Lana Del Rey music video?
    12. Favourite producer Lana has worked with?

Last time I framed these questions with preset answers and an "other (please describe)" option. Should I continue with this format or leave them all open ended? The issue with them being open ended is that it can make it harder to collate into a graph as answers can vary greatly. On the flip side, the benefit of open ended questions is that it allows for broader range of answers that accurately describe peoples lived experiences.

All these questions would be optional and you are free to skip anything you are not comfortable answering.

If you're interested in previous results here is the 2016 survey data

So please, suggest some further questions that you would like know   If you see a question suggested that you want included please "like" the post so I have an indication of what you want to know. I don't want the survey to be too long so people don't feel like it's a drag to complete, and also because I don't want to make like 70 graphs

Once I have a good idea of what to include I'll create the survey and put the link in a new thread. Cheers!

@@sexyslutboy - absolutely! For Harriet's video is fabulous. I'm linking it here for everyone else to check out.

A great quote from this is "You don't have to try to do harm, to do harm."

I'm unsure how many of the comments on the previous page are taking about my post, but I would like to clarify:

Anyone is entitled to be offended by Lana's statement, because despite her good intentions, it was a clumsy and misguided statement.

I do however find it dangerous to imply or attribute statements to people who didn't actually say them, and while implications are associated with the original post, to me there is no sentiment where she implied black women in music didn't have the capacity to be sensitive. Just a bunch of other problematic things.

Maybe Marina just unfollowed her because - like all of us - she is bored of the constant vague content that has nothing to do with the music Lana puts out? I unfollowed her in 2018 because I was bored of her insta life and frustrated with her lack of music.

Maybe Rob liked the 'I don't know shit' story from Chuck because he wants people to leave his daughter alone.
