I think this belongs here bc I rarely see anyone talk about this track unless they call it boring.

I love Old Money; it's one of my fav Lana songs and it makes me so emotional. That "Blue hydrangea" hits you right off the bat with a melancholy that is incredibly beautiful. There's something nostalgic about this song and I know when I'm older, I will be looking back fondly on it thinking of my younger years. And what better a song title for that, right? lol

I have to laugh... BTD has been in the top 200 selling albums for almost 10 years. It may sound dated to some, but it's never going to be an irrelevant album. It literally shifted pop music from EDM influence to hip-hop for the entirety of the 2010's.. BTD was a cultural reset.

I have never had a problem with the lyrics of “Ultraviolence” (the song). I’ve always believed true art expresses the ugly and fucked up in a beautiful way so that we can understand the mindset of the individuals under less-than-desirable circumstances.

Lana feels poor in the sense that I feel she is more human and closer to people, she has always liked to get out of her mundane circle and be around the poor (the trailer park, the homeless, alcoholics associations). It's a quality but I can't stand her bringing it back every time she has never experienced real poverty, she has chosen it as a way of life, as a way out of her rich cocoon but d 'come back to it. always for safety (she only stayed a few months in an old mobile home during the AKA adventure before returning to her luxury loft in New York with her sister).

It is true that with all the respect I have for her, without her father and his connections, she would never have succeeded, at least in the whole world, and that is why it remains exceptional. The start of her career was very expensive and very luxurious (I remember the first concerts in Paris which were in expensive places, clips like Born to die made in Versailles for an unknown singer ...), so I see where she wants to go with the poor thing of life and i feel like she has it under control but complaining and remembering that she lived a shit life, ah Lana i don't believe you at all and i dont would never have mercy.

Know about the 'dot.com' financial gate? Happened just as Lana was going through teenage years, ended up exploding in 2002, if I don't remember wrong.

I have no idea what it is, if it’s bc I’m a POC or maybe just because I’m a city person or whatever the case, but, I feel really alienated from the whole country/hillbilly (idk if that’s the right word lol) Lana vibe and just feel weird about it. I know she’s really deep into the country lifestyle rn so I just hope the new album won’t be focusing on a fake twang or like a banjo. LOL I’m probably exaggerating things in my mind for sure but I just really want the country era to end already. ?

it's the "lana how i hate those guys" line for me, every time i hear it i remember that cursed electra heart drawing from tumblr and it makes me cringe immediately

and also, the overall message of the song is um... questionable to say the least, but the production is great!

yeah i really don’t care if i get dragged for this but straight-up imo the more she leans into country, the worse her music gets. i think a full country album would be straight up bad. idc if i sound like a ‘local’ but i rly haven’t stanned lana del rey for 10 years just for her to strip back everything that made her unique, and blindly follow a regression in artistry and sound.

I've just seen Venice Bitch is the highest-rated song of Lana's on rateyourmusic. Of course it's because for some weird reason NFR as an album and its tracks have got plenty of ratings, unlike the rest of her discography. I don't get it. Anyway, the thing is; people thinking Venice Bitch is Lana's best song are tone deaf. I said what I said.

bartender is a TOP tier lana song
also for free was better without that collab. lana sings it better alone.

It's one of her most mysterious songs, I wish she wrote more "disturbing" lyrics like that.

I actually thought for a long time that Lust For Life was the album opener since I took Love out lol.

Oh my god, I forgot about my favorite fucking song on the album LOL. Tomorrow Never Came? The verses are heartbreakingly beautiful, gives me a lizzy grant feeling that I love. "Shakin' and movin' at my local spot". And that bridge brings me to my fucking KNEES. "Roses out in your coun...try house" hahaha. I'm sorry I don't even care that it's almost structured like a T*ylor Sw*ft song, I think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever.

I'm happy with who she is obviously, you can tell she's happier, her music works and she has gained a lot of recognition as an artist, it was unexpected believe me. She is an exceptional artist and that's why I love her so much, she is artistically perfect.

I was transcribing how I felt about her in a brutal way, maybe because I've grown up over the years. I know I have an obsession with the depth of things, too much sometimes. I need that dose of sadness that few artists can provide and Lana was part of that. I was just a little frustrated that such a beautiful universe perfect in every way is flaking to become more generic but I can understand that doing this dark music must take a lot of energy, mental and physical, and we think about it never. I have to admit that artists are not machines and that they also have to take care of them, and I think like all those artists who do very dark things, Lana needs to be happy and to stay far from the shadows that can pull her down, which would explain why her music is so today, less creepy.

She's a whole person but I find that lately she has changed, but I guess that's normal, her popularity is more flourishing than ever. I have the impression since the recognition of her work since NFR, that she has lost this thing a bit, or else it's self-confidence that has just been heightened in this way. I love what I've seen of her the last few days, but her recent "scandals" with her double-meaning messages, her mask really made me feel like this girl doing anything.
But I guess she's having fun and that's a good thing. I'm just still very nostalgic, no doubt because his music touches me less and less, and I have this golden age in mind (BTD, UV, HM) with an intimidated Lana who seemed softer on stage and more subtle.

And no no and no, politics is an area that makes my hair stand out and I really can't stand when privileged artists come to give their opinions on such and such things but I must admit that Lana remains quite realistic and far from it all. In fact, I sucked at judging her. Hope she never does a politician's campaign and all that bullshit to give herself a thing, that she live away from all that shit.

Why why whyyyyy is LFL so overlooked? I love almost every song (aside from the title track I guess, lol) plus I felt like the promotion was interesting, and she looked hot and cool during that era lol. No one gives it the respect it deserves! I love the way it both further explores her narcotic balladry (Heroin, Love) brings intensity (Cherry, IMF) and resurrects prominent hip-hop production in a fresh way for that record (Summer Bummer). Also I felt like her outlook was spot on and the sentiments she was bringing to the table were interesting, like she had her finger on the pulse of culture in a way I liked...When the World Was At War We Just Kept On Dancing... (and God Bless America for that matter).  And no one talks about how she predicted the pandemic with Change lol. And Stevie Nick's feature felt timely and cute, and then to top it all off it gave us Get Free... like wow. It's a legendary album. I get that all of her records are good but LFL felt like a peak to me. (Of course she kept peaking with NFR, and now COCC is just beyond).  I guess I just wish more people were on board for that record, and she seemed really happy during that time period. I love the photo of her smiling in front of the truck and I actually have it framed on my wall above my piano <3

this actually makes a lot of sense, the loser and man-child comparisons seem parallel and she's never really belittled a guy in her song other than in my feelings and nfr. calling him a poet and saying "your poetry's bad" could also be a subliminal metaphor for his raps that he presumably writes.

I just pretend every song is about barrie [because 90% of them are]

And yet people were claiming those songs are full of hints that she's gay  Sometimes I wish I understood what people see in Taylor, but most of the times... nah, I'm good.

I think in Blue Banisters, the man said he would come back every May and paint her banisters blue - but he never did, so that’s why her sisters painted them green and gray.

I think she was speaking generally about her experiences in love but I would assume she was also thinking about Sean Larkin, since she mentions Oklahoma (which is where he’s from).

Plus, all of the songs on COTCC were written before they broke up, so I think some of the songs on the forthcoming album will address their relationship ending and will delve into how her upbringing led her to enter that relationship. Text Book captures that perfectly, it seems - she attributes the effect her mother had on her relationship with her father and how that led her to compensate for what she was missing in that familial unit through her relationship with Sean.

Sorry, such a long answer! But yes, I think the songs are written in response to her relationship with Sean, with her linking it to her relationship with her father and mother.

I really hope that I'm not the only one who had this problem...
You hear about a thing, let's say that it's some band. Maybe it's popular, maybe all your friends currently like it or recommend it to you... You have high hopes. The problem is that liking the thing might be harder than you thought... so you endlessly force yourself to listen to it, in hopes that sooner or later something's gonna click.
My personal example is Marina and the Diamonds. I've heard a lot about how interesting and smart her lyrics are, how creative she gets with her videos... Not to mention that a lot of feminists praised her. My friend is extremely into her. A lot of Lana stans also like Marina.
I really wanted to like her music, but obviously thing went awful. I found her first record boring, and Electra Heart was too... American-poppy for me (no offense). I tried to convince myself that I like it for a week or so, and then gave up.
Not to mention that I started hating her lyrics, because they were pasted all over tumblr like some Bible gospel.
Despite that, I must say that Bubblegum Bitch (I know that I kind of contradict myself, but what can I do) and Teen Idle are fun songs.

Have any of you guys and gals ever shared this experience? Doesn't have to necessarily be with music, can be with anything else (actually, I have another example - a certain writer's work - but I am not strong enough to get into this shithole right now )

Do we know for sure that Barrie and Lana knew each other before VG? This is the one part that doesn't fit... sounds to me like he's seen Lana for the first time in the music video.
Not sure how he would have the phone number though...

Who is the man in Blue Banisters who is reliable and who comes back to her? Not her father, right? This is about some lover most likely, but IDK whom. I haven't been keeping up with her romances as of late...
