Okay so I deleted my other edit here and used it for this album concept instead. The visuals come from the 1970's movie Suspiria. I made up some song titles too just to fit the overall aesthetics.

False. Children are statistically more likely to be kidnapped and trafficked by people they know and trust than strangers. Stop spreading false news and distracting from the actual atrocities we know happens on a daily basis. Not everything has to be some big conspiracy for ppl to have a strong emotional reaction, if you can only sympathize with the victims of abuse and trafficking bc you think it’s some organized “cabal of elites”, not only are you extremely privileged—you are part of the reason our justice system doesn’t work properly. Stop desensitizing ppl to the real issue.

    Hi all!

We just completed Phase 1 of our updates. This was all behind-the-scenes stuff that will ensure a much smoother process to the big site update and server upgrade, so you all won’t notice any physical changes yet, but they’re coming! Because the site is so outdated, there’s a lot of bumps in the road we’re having to get by, so I apologise for the time this is taking.

We’ll have a waiting period before we’re ready and able to start Phase 2, so I decided to put the site back online until that’s ready to begin. I want to give you all as much time online as possible!

I’ll notify you all before we go offline again for Phase 2. (I apologise for not giving you all more of an immediate update on the boards before we went offline when Phase 1 started, I didn’t realise it was going to go offline so suddenly )

I’ve been posting these updates to the LanaBoards Twitter, so again if you haven’t followed it, I would recommend doing so to stay in-the-know during this process.

Thank you all again for your continued patience & support!

    Xoxo,
    Elle

    Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know of some changes that are going to take place later today (about 12 or so hours from now.)
Some of you may remember I posted this message before a couple of weeks ago after a previous site crash, but it was removed within a half hour along with any other posts that had been posted in that time frame. Basically, I tried to upgrade the server without updating the site first and it didn't work, so I had to revert it. Let me delve more into that -

Essentially, LanaBoards's current server isn't stable enough to continue using. We just had another crash Saturday night following #AugustLeakFest due to traffic, and those sort of crashes are going to continue to happen during high traffic times on our current server. Obviously, we can't have that happen especially with COTCC coming up; however, in order to upgrade to a larger server, the forum script software has to be updated. Otherwise, it will not work properly as I discovered a couple of weeks ago.

A few times in the past, I've asked users and set up a poll to see if you all wanted me to update the forum script. Each time, the result was pretty split or with a slight majority in favour of keeping the current forum script that LanaBoards has had since its start in 2012. Now, I have no choice but to update it anyway.
Later today, in about 12 hours or so, Melly and I will be updating the site and then upgrading the server.

Here's pretty much what you need to know:
    - The site will be offline for a few hours while this updating and upgrading occurs. I don't imagine it will take too terribly long (and I sure hope it doesn't), but it could be a few hours. I'll be posting a notice on the site hopefully around an hour or so before it goes offline, but I would highly recommend you all to follow the @/LanaBoards Twitter if you're not already, as I'll be posting updates there while everything is taking place to keep you all up to date on what's happening.
    - Things are going to look a little different. LanaBoards has not changed much aesthetically aside from era theme changes over the past 8 years. This is because the same forum software script has not ever changed, but it's so outdated and now causing some problems. I'm still going to be using the same forum company's template, it's just going to be their newest updated script. So it won't be too drastic of a change, but there may be some minor aesthetic & functionality changes here and there.
    - The theme will have to change (yay, finally, I know.) Now, the problem is I have no idea what the site layout is going to look like after the update. I have a brief idea of what it may look like, but I cannot start designing a theme until the update is complete so I'll know how to design it to match the new layout of the site. So, for a few days after the update, we may have to have a simple temporary theme until an actual one is completely designed. I'm working with some other talented users to hopefully design themes for both NFR & VBBOTG, and I'm also going to try to redesign the current LFL theme to fit the new layout as well. I may also go back and redesign some of the themes for other eras (if/when I have time) and feature a list of themes where users can decide which one they would like.
    - You really have nothing to worry about! (hopefully, if nothing goes terribly wrong!) All accounts, posts, threads, etc. will remain in tact. Again, the only thing different will be minor aesthetic & functionality changes in the site's layout as I mentioned above. It will pretty much stay the same LanaBoards that you all know and love (& hate sometimes) since we'll still be using the same forum template, but with a sleeker, more updated layout and design.

Please let me know if you all have any questions or concerns. I'll post a message to this thread as well as in the Status Updates letting you all know before we go offline, but again I would strongly recommend following our Twitter page for updates while we're offline.
Thank you all so much for your support and cooperation in this!

    All my love,
    Elle xx

So I listened to half of it at the beach and the other half at my house and.... it is a lot better than I thought it would be! The music is beautiful and I like hearing her read, it feels obviously personal and intimate, and very emotional. Some of it that is written in a stream of consciousness style makes me wish I had the actual book in my hands so I could go back and look at it myself.

I loved Bare Feet on Linoleum and it's so weird? I know a lot of people miss her mystery and (her fave word) persona that she had, but I liked this and it brings an image of who she is/wants to be to the forefront a little more.

This might be the poem that touched me the most on a first read. Really straight to the point, autobiographical, and I could just feel it.

"My intructor, younger than I, but as tough as you,
Instructed me to do a simple maneuverer.
    It’s not that I didn’t do it,
But I was slow to lean the sports cruiser into a right hand upward turn.
Scared, scared that I would lose control of the plane.
    Not tactfully and not gently,
The instructor shook his head, and without looking at me said
    “You don’t trust yourself”.
    I was horrified.
Feeling as though I’d somehow been found out.
    Like he knew me,
    How weak I was.
Of course, he was only talking about my ability as a pilot in the sky,
But I knew it was meant for me to hear those words."
    --
    I’m not a pilot.
    I write!

This reminded me of an interview she did with Zane Lowe back in 2018, where she referenced this exact moment and how it influenced her to begin writing more (10:00-11:50):
"This is when I also started to write more poetry. One of the most interesting things that happened to me was I couldn't take control, and my pilot instructor, who's much younger than me, he asked me to turn up and to the right into a righthand turn. & I did it, but I did it so slowly that it didn't even really turn. He just looked at me and he was like, 'You don't trust yourself.' He was literally only talking about with the plane, but for me I thought, shit. Thank god I didn't have a breakdown, I felt like I knew I needed to hear that. I was like, oh my god, I really don't. 'Cause it's so simple. The plane drives like a stick shift 'cause I'm in a sportcruiser. All you have to do is move the stick to the right, but I couldn't even do it. I think I realized how I am still so scared of so much. Of course, the sailing is another metaphor. They have a lot of the same language. I think it's all about being in the driver's seat, if you will. I'm all about metaphors. I actually said something to him, I was like, you're right. I don't trust myself. I really don't. & he looked at me like, get it together. That's when I realised. I don't want to say that's when I realised I'm not a pilot, but I realised I'm a writer. I'm not a pilot, but I could be. That's where my head went. It's funny, even with his instruction my head still went to how am I turning this into a rhyming stanza?"
