whats exciting the most to me is how little we know about the actual songs on this record. imo this is the first time since Honeymoon we're actually getting to listen to a body of work wich we have been given very few previews of.

    comparing each release:

LFL - Love, Lust For Life, Summer Bummer, Coachella and Groupie Love were released before the album, AND we had by then already heard the entirety of Cherry via live perfomances and almost all of Change through snippets she posted on instagram. That's *SEVEN* songs previewed before the album release.

NFR! - Mariners Apartment Complex, Venice Bitch, The Greatest, Fuck It I Love You, Hope Is A Dangerous Thing... and Doin Time were released before the album. TNBAR had already leaked in full with very few changes. She had perfomed the entirety of How To Disappear and shared multiple snippets of California, Love Song, Happiness Is A Butterfly and Cinnamon Girl. That's *TWELVE* songs previewd before the album release.

COCC - Chemtrails Over The Country Club, Let Me Love You Like A Woman and White Dress were released before the album. She had already shared a snippet of Tulsa Jesus Freak and performed a bit of Yosemite and the entirety of Breaking Up Slowly and For Free. That's *SEVEN* songs previewed before the album release.

BB - Text Book, Blue Banisters, Wildflower Wildfire, Arcadia, Interlude - The Trio were all released before the album. Thunder had leaked in full and was released with little change. Nectar of The Gods, Living Legend and Cherry Blossom had been leaked before too. So that's *NINE* songs previewd before the album release.

Now, with Did You Know... we only have the title track, A&W, possibly another single and a short snippet of Candy Necklace. That's all we have, and it makes me so excited for the surprises we are getting into.

No, but it's her managers' job to build momentum around the release of her album, and right now there is next to none outside of LanaBoards.com

Everyone wants to be able to talk and speak and have all the input and recognition but none of the responsibility.

Maybe if she's independent now or w/e with less people over her head, she might loosen up a bit? Maybe her topical feminism was shaped in part of having to adhere to the label's standards of acceptability? "You can have your Femi-album but it's gotta come packaged this way...."

Maybe I've just done too much copium.

Honestly just sellout. Go make an album of bought and sold generic pop. If you like to sing just literally go do that. Not every album needs to come from some personal pain, or be relatable politically or socially. Do a sellout era. Like a real one. Go do some guest vocals for some vocal trance music projects - operatic voices do great on some of that shit. Sometimes it's okay to just ~~vibe without some deep philosophical motivation behind the craft. Just be technical; it won't be for everyone, but there will be some existing fans that are along for the ride, and if you make new ones, congrats, there's a back catalog to explore.

Oh I've said this openly in Lana threads, it's no secret and I know many fans agree.Blue Banisters is still a really good song but the lyrics...
Anyway, off topic but I'm just saying, I'm not really dragging Lana. It just reinforces the idea that when artists sort of settle down and are more content with their lives their artistry goes downhill. Or maybe it's just fucking California that ruins artists since Marina moved there too a few years ago.

I always love Marina's Q&A live streams and always feel like she enjoys talking about the behind the scenes of a record and the entire process. And since she seems to be so angry about something I'd love her to do one of these Q&As about her artistic development since Froot. You're right, she could give us so much insight into the music industry but in a straightforward way. And then getting it out of her system and finally being able to write about something else.

In general I feel like Marina has no idea what to write about anymore. When she was younger she was quite troubled and had a lot of stuff to tell but nowadays she's doing better (which is great!) but it's no lie that artists are at their best when there's something going on in their lives. If you're completely content with your life - what're you going to write about? Either about private stuff that's incredibly irrelevant to other people like barefeet chicken or about the problems of the whole wide world.

Most of those artists that "you'll like if you listen to Lana Del Rey" according to music mags etc. I never like them.

Beneath the floorboards. Some John Wayne Gacy energy there. Probably has Serial Killer on it.
