    This is off topic, but:
Those surfer vibes she was going for in FIILY and Doin' Time. This should have been a follow up album to NFR.

It's hitting me that this is my least favorite Lana album bsdjfh. It has some songs that are amazing to me like top level, but this is the first Lana album where there are several songs that I just don't care for. Songs like Dealer, Thunder, NOTG, Black Bathing Suit, IYLDNTM and Living Legend are amazing to me, absolutely love those songs, but songs like Violets for Roses and Beautiful are just not pleasent to listen to to me. And then you got songs like Text Book, Sweet Carolina, WFWF and the title track that I think are good songs but they really just don't compare to her other work. I'm never like "oh, I really wanna listen to Wildflower Wildfire right now!”. Also the fact that she included songs we've had for so long makes them less exciting to me cause I've already had my moment with them. At first I really liked this album as a whole, but the more I listen to it the more I'm just :// about it (as a whole). With COCC it's very different. I didn't like COCC as much as NFR but I find myself listening to COCC a lot, it's very replayable to me and I like it a lot, even though I think Blue Banisters has higher higs. So yeah, BB least fav Lana album. At the bottom.

What even is the point in this post besides dragging Adele and Taylor? I’m tired of people acting like popular artists can’t make good music just because they are popular. And Lana stans always act like she’s some underground artist when she’s not  Born To Die is one of the best selling albums of all time, nearly every album of hers has over a billion streams, she’s been receiving way more critical acclaim lately, and Dealer is going viral on social media. It’s just childish. You can say Lana deserves more praise and support without dragging two other talented women that constantly uplift Lana

I know people around here act as if it was super cewl n edgy and a sign of advanced artistry, but that's just what happens if you don't do nothing beyond the album itself.
Most indie artists with a much smaller target-audience put more effort into their promotion, and it's not like music videos, performancea and photoshoots are just marketing - it's also a way to artistically express urself.

Lana herself used to absolutely rule this aspect of visual artistry, no matter if it was about big budget stuff like Blue Jeans or her homemade videos during ger Lizzie-era.
Now most she does in this department seems  uninspired and halfassed. Noone but fans who force themselves to like it care for content like the BB-mv, that NFR/B/HIAB thing or the LMLYLAW performance.

I'm not saying she should force herself to do something she doesn't want to, but it's not suprising that the attention for her output sinks when she obviously doesn't care.

And that decay of visual quality is not "niche". Lana just does not care about it anymore. It's fine, but let's not overglamourize it. A lot of small "niche" artists who really want to create something beautiful to accompany their music manage to do with a much lower budget. Because they actually burn for it. Lana is past that point, and with both herself and her fanbase taking her way too serious, she now does things like the BB-video or the CoCC-cover.

Almost all albums (in general) have the wrong song order. The less popular songs should be played first and the most popular at the end. That way you have a progression and know, even if you don't like a song, that there could be better ones. Otherwise, you listen to the most popular songs first, and the motivation to finish listening to the album decreases with each successive song.

I've been thinking about this for a moment. I feel like had Lana done things differently with 'Chemtrails' it would've gotten a different, perhaps more positive response from the fans.
Imagine had she release the album as a surprise, didn't announce it in that post, cut both 'Let Me Love You Like A Woman' and 'For Free' and present the album as some sort of sister/companion EP to 'NFR!', or like her favourite songs from the so called 'NFR!' sessions or something; I honestly think it would've been lowkey perfect and more appreciated.
I still enjoy most of the album a great deal, but I get why it's being underappreciated.
ETA: Use a different picture for the cover, even though I know the COCC cover discourse has been beaten to death. I'm still underwhelmed by both the official and alternate cover.

It’s just so dark and smooth, the production and blend between Lana and Nikki’s voices are just gorgeous.

Breaking Up Slowly is one of the best songs off Chemtrails.

'The Other Woman' IS her best cover.

I’d still be excited for LDR9 if Jack produced it…..under the condition it’s distinct sonically from NFR and COCC

I genuinely think Jack and Lana have produced some of the best in her discography, but please give us something refreshing without being too similar to his work with other artists even if the genre is the same

I agree about the Picasso reference but let's not pretend that these lyrics are any worse than countless others in the other songs.
The singles have some of the worst lyrics on that album and at least Beautiful has an actual, proper piano whereas it sounds like Mike Dean (who imo is overrated af) borrowed Jack's Fisher-Price keyboard for Wallflower
Not to mention she serves actual vocals in Beautiful instead of the shrill, borderline-whiny declarations found in Text Book
Beautiful is a good song and having to put aside some cringeworthy lyrics to like a song of hers is nothing new

The Other Woman is probably top 3 most beautiful vocal performances she’s ever given… she made it her own & flipped the perspective of the lyrics. Absolutely her best cover.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't imo
Works: Is This Happiness, Fine China, Angels Forever
Doesn't work: Guns and Roses, Lust for Life, Brite Lites
Like it just depends for me idk

baffled that such quality writing as in 'text book' can be on the same album as tracks like 'beautiful' and to a lesser extent, 'violets 4 roses'  i completely understand lana feeling like she needed to address critics regarding their misconceptions and i hope that's the reason for beautiful being as direct and on the nose as it is, but i also hope she never has to write songs aimed at clarifying herself to critics ever again

this forum gives way too much credit to Sirens. like, yeah it’s not bad at all but you are actually a straight up liar if you think it’s better than any of the studio albums she’s released since then

That the entire album is a concept based upon a memory, text book is the most recent song that correlates to her life in terms of lyrics. Blue banisters is set in the present until jenny asks her how the hell she got on a john deere, when she starts reminiscing on her past and the rest of the lyrics in blue banisters are just a memory. Then the album goes on and it’s all set in the past and she’s reliving every song as it goes on. Then, by the time we get to Cherry Blossom, we’re back up to the present. And while she was reminiscing the whole time, time passed and now Sweet Carolina is the present.

This theory makes sense to me considering she said this album is what happened, why it happened, and how it is now….. it just took some piecing together

I know!  I also think this is my favourite of the hair colours she’s had — the warm brown shade with cinnamon highlights suits her so well

a lot of the ultraviolence album (i actually think it's more of a "mad" album, instead of a "sad" album)

I was just browsing online and randomly came across this photo again. Man, I freaking wish she would've officially went with this photo for CoCC instead of that strange picnic table one. Everyone looks badass in this one and it's truly a captivating shot.

    Why Lana, why

After much reflection, I can't say I like BB all that much. Honestly it just sounds like a repeat of everything we've heard from Lana. It's time to change things up. We've had these slow tempo sombre songs for God knows how many albums now. We need a new sound already. Hell, we even need a new style of lyricism.

I do like some of the songs on BB, but even the re-worked demos sound out of place on this body of work.

We need a genre like a swing-noir-western-delta blues sound. Just SOMETHING different. ANYTHING but sparse produced piano drivel!

I cannot speak for others but this is not what my post meaned. I was saying that people praise her current lyrics as being somehow more relatable than the ones of the past, and I don't agree with that. I think that that's rather insulting to her and her past work, because I think she 100% made songs about Hollywood, etc, relatable and that was because of the expression of her thoughts and feelings - not about the scenarios themselves. I mean I don't have an LA boyfriend waiting for me under the palms but songs like 13 Beaches still resonate.
So whether or not you relate to a particular event is not the point; the point is that, in the past, her lyricism was more abstract and now it is very matter-of-fact. The fact that it was more abstract allowed me to relate no matter what the scenario was that she was singing about. These newer songs are less about the thoughts and feelings she derives from the events in her life, and more about what is actually happening in her life expressed in a diary-like manner. So imo they're more difficult to relate to, unless one is talking about the actual events and so I brought up the swimming pool to express that nobody wants, or cares, about relating to such mundane events. The thoughts and feelings are still there, but less so, and it's like a shift in lyrical priorities.

In response to your spoilered text, that is what I feared the album would feel like.
I haven't heard it yet but the older songs being the best part is what I expected.
Kinda can't wait to see fans who hadn't heard the previous songs be saying "she still has it, [all the older songs] are her best work!" When it's like, yes because they weren't written alongside the creation of this album
