And then, I got into the shower
I was just able to go back to sleep for a hour and a half
So that rocked, um, anyway (Ah, ah)
I had this dream where, um, aha, I don't know

and then it comes "soundin off bang bang kiss kiss "
i saw a youtuber saying that the vb part maybe is the dream and i don't know why but i like it and i liked the song more

    Wow. I can't believe Fantano gave her a -
She really fucking deserves it. I don't agree with Fantano on a lot (the Ultraviolence review baffles me to this day), but to see that after 9 albums into her career she's just getting better and better according to critics?? That's incredibly rare. I hope people know that she has cemented herself into the American singer-songwriters forever. Born To Die was lightning in a bottle, but to continue to make record after great record, when many other artists peak... she's rare. So proud of her

What are the sides though? Because to me, there are five distinct sections that all have their own personality:

The Grants / Did you know / Sweet A&W / Judah Smith / Candy Necklace / Jon Batiste Kinsugi / Fingertips / Paris, Texas Grandfather / Let the Light In / Margaret Fishtail / Peppers / Taco Truck x VB

i'm not surprised fantano gave the album a positive review, he's been giving lana generally positive reviews since honeymoon but i am surprised he rated the album so highly and had so few criticisms of it. he even rated it higher than norman which he kept referring to as her best! disappointing tho that he still won't reassess her early work under a new lense but we can't wxpect him to love all hwr albums (even lots of her fans have albums of hera thwy don't like). but i feel like he secretly likes lana more than he's willing to admit, especially since we've seen in previous videos that he seems to know all the lore around her unreleased tracks which most casual fans don't even know about. but anyway, i'm glad he enjoyed the album and i hope his misogynistic fans are seething lol

It went from being an 8 to 8.5 to 9 for me. Some (cocc) were only going down each week.

Ocean Blvd isn’t meant to be or feel immediate: it’s meant for one to sit with it for a long, long time. It keeps growing and growing. The people who keep reducing it to a piano album are just stuck in BTD/UV nostalgia and can’t consume music that isn’t short or beat driven - or both.

You will be surprised when Ocean Blvd outsells Portals in every country possible then.

Fashionably late in answering this but this is an interesting comment.

I do wonder if Lana’s refusal to play the promotional game has led us to believe she’s overall lazy as an artist and incapable to conjure concept albums regardless of whether she promotes them as such or not. In my opinion, Lana as of right now wouldn’t make sure to go out of her way to say this is a concept album the same way most musicians do when they have a concept project in their hands.

This album is clearly narrative-driven and its structure does obey to a certain narrative of getting in and out of a tunnel: The Grants anticipate this moment (“I’m doing the hard stuff, I’m doing my time”) before the title track and Sweet display her own anxieties as she goes further into her memories and past (fear of being forgotten, the anxiety of being in a relationship and wanting to know about its longevity, as she affirms to being someone deserving of that). From A&W forward she gets into the tunnel, to harrowing (A&W), eerie (the interludes), dark (Candy Necklace) and devastating (Kintsugi + Fingertips) effects as she gets more and more lost in the misty forests of her own traumas. From Paris, Texas forward it feels like she’s coming out of the tunnel (“I just needed two seconds to be me”) which culminates in Margaret, a very bittersweet moment where, as some review points, she’s a spectator of joy rather than a receptor. And then the Fishtail/Peppers/Taco Truck coda where she’s finally embracing the recklessness and devil-may-care side of her that so many people (her mother and some past relationships) made her feel bad and inferior about. Ending the album with “signing off bang bang kiss kiss” feels like a major “fuck off, peace out” ride into the sunset. Who knows where she goes from here - at the end of the day, it’s her path to forge and her trauma seems to be left behind.

This tracklist feels so meticulous and incredibly deliberate in narrative and musicianship that it kind of feels unfair to discredit it as “non-conceptual” because Lana is too “lazy” to do something like that. Just because she’s not being overly promotional about it, doesn’t mean she’s a lazy artist. The fact that she poured so much of herself in this record and formatted it in such an intriguing and confounding fashion, makes me believe she’s anything but lazy.

when Fantano gives a 9, it means something, because he rarely rates this high

NFR was way more accessible compared to OB, let's be honest.  And the MVs, the interviews, the radio shows. Ofc it was going to get more streams.

OB is getting more than 1st day BB streams on its 6th day.

Spectrum Pulse also had a very positive review for Tunnel. He has never really liked any Lana album before so it’s also a pleasant surprise

Listening again but this time on my Amazon pink vinyl and I really do love the two interludes. They really set a mood. I love how experimental she was with this record.

There's a certain point the body can't come back from
In one year, we've learned the turn of the mouth
The depth that the chest cavity takes
Chucky was there for three out of three
I was there for the third 'cause I couldn't be
There for the one who was closest to me
But I can't say I run when things get hard
It's just that I don't trust myself with my heart
But I've had to let it break a little more
'Cause they say that's what it's for

And I just can't stop cryin' 'cause all of the ways
    When you see someone dyin'
You see all your days flash in front of you
And you think about who would be with you
    And then there's Donoghue

    Daddy, I miss them
    I'm in the mountains
I'm probably runnin' away from the feelings I get
When I think all the things about them
    Daddy, I miss them
    I'm at the Roadrunner Café
I'm probably runnin' away from the thoughts in the day

Then contribute something to the conversation.

Anyways, Fishtail is fantastic to me, but I understand people's criticism towards it. It really is such an improvement on Tulsa Jesus Freak/Black Bathing Suit imo.
