hating on her friend group because it's mostly "basic" white women.. let the woman live

i haven't been very active in this thread, but i just wanted to express my thoughts on A&W, firstly, this song is most definitely already one of my favorite lana songs of all-time, it is INCREDIBLE, it is dark, complex, psychedelic, 5+ minutes long, abstract, yet specifically honest, it's insane, it's something we haven't heard yet from lana at all, there are so many things i love about it, it feels like every other past album, song, and period of lana's artistry has led up to this particular song/moment in her discography, we couldn't have this track without all of the others which came before it, A&W is very revealing, yet still keeps it abstract, and wondering more about her past and her history, that's what is amazing about lana is that we know so much about her, yet she is still so mysterious and elusive, there's so many questions you'll still have after listening to this track
if i'm correct, i believe the pitchfork review of this track described the second part of the song as a feeling of accepting yourself as an outcast, and i've been holding onto that, because this track is so eerie, it's not just a song detailing her frustrations and her troubles throughout her life, it feels dirty, there's a taboo undertone lingering in the energy of this song, there's a very subtle, yet palatable essence of horror and despair in this track which makes it so much more rich and more of an experience, i feel like i can relate to the grimy chaos in this track, but also the parts of this track that feel more careless and almost ironically enjoying and embracing the mess and the chaos, because if you've dealt with complicated, strange experiences, or are just a complicated, strange person, you probably feel like, or even know, that that will never change, so you just have to face the darkest parts of yourself, and try your best to view them as something that is beautiful, something that makes you who you are, and sometimes, that's how you survive

You always have the best analyses of Lana's songs and to other pop culture phenomenons that make me appreciate the tracks even more

I really am getting Laura Palmer vibes from this song. Laura was always writing in her secret diary about her darkest and innermost thoughts, which is exactly the feeling this song and I think the album in general will be giving, matched beautifully with the album art of Lana looking like a girl from the past full of secrets of her own that will start to spill out as her restlessness gets the best of her.

The second part is so fascinating because it's like we rewind back to a place where the version of Lana that's singing doesn't see the darkness that we can see, it is all fun and games for her. She does wanna get high with Jimmy over and over, she does think it's funny when his mom calls, she does just wanna vibe without a thought beyond the repetition of an endless good time. But through the questions asked in the first half of the song and the menacing production that follows, we're able to see an outcome that she doesn't see yet. Even Laura Palmer had fun walking with fire until it was too late

The vocal mixing is obviously deliberate, she's like a drunk girl sharing her secrets at a party and you don't catch everything that she says at first, but repeated listens reveal more and more and then you're just like holy shit...

    OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!

I am fucking speechless, this is obviously one of her best songs of all time, an absolute artistic triumph. It's so wild that the insiders really spoiled nothing because this is such an incredible ride that nothing could really take away from it. A David Lynch horror film as a folk/pop masterpiece. Lana really isn't just making music at this point, she's an artist like no other ever imo.

The first half is so completely insane and that final verse before the change is the most revealing and brutal she's ever written, and then the production literally sounds like some kind of frightening rewind to the past, where we end up in this unsettling trap loop that somehow further explains the questions that she's asking in the first half. She's been wondering how she ended up in this place in life, whether she likes or if it's just who she is, and then this jump back to her Lizzy Grant / teenage self shows that she's been like this for a very long time.

    Dark, unique, thought-provoking, A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!

Jack has chemistry with Lana that can't be replicated by any other female artist he works with ( and he works with plenty). I know they're seething hard right now.

This is beautiful! I thought you quoted a professional article without offering credit, but I see you composed it yourself! Good job!

the lack of high end on her vocals is stylistic and intentional, it’s not “bad” at all it’s just not your taste. jack and his team have all the resources in the world, if something wasn’t on purpose then it wouldn’t end up on the final product. and this style of vocal mixing really isn’t anything new or different at all either outside of the landscape of post-2000 pop music

A music video with this outfit would've served so much, that picture screams AMERICAN WHORE.
