but since she wrote the songs, she still does make money from them. this isn't like popstars from the 60s who didn't write their songs and often made no money at all from their music. like yeah she deserves to own her masters and get all the royalties but its not like she's not getting paid at all. and i'm a big swiftie too so i'm not just trying to drag taylor or anything. i just hate that people act like she makes no money off her old music. i also hate when people refer to those albums as "stolen" but that's a whole other story. taylor's lucky tho that she has such a fiercely loyal fanbase who are largely willing to boycott her original albums and switch to the newer inferior recordings bc most artists would probably lose even more money from this rerecording endeavour.

The thing that makes me laugh is that the way it’s worded by swifties (or at least the ones I’ve seen) is that she doesn’t own any rights to her music and doesn’t make money off her OG versions.
There are two types of royalties iirc, master and mechanical royalties. As far as I understand (and someone please correct me if I’m wrong) she doesn’t get any master royalties or rights because she doesn’t own them, which can be bad because it’s her work but she is literally a millionaire. Why does she need more money lol. She still gets money from the mechanical royalties, albeit a lot less than what the master royalties will make.
if she were a small artist then 100% would be behind her but it just screams I want more money. i feel bad because obviously she signed that contract as a teenager, but like surely you would’ve had a lawyer like bffr, you signed it now take the consequences. Maybe I’m cold hearted for that but it’s just my take. I am glad she’s shedding light on the issue though because it is a lot more common of an issue than you would think.
Also her including unreleased tracks is just another way to sell the re-records and something about that just doesn’t sit right with me lol

Sorry for that long ass rant peeps, just don’t drag me too hard pls x

Ya even though I support the re-recordings and don’t think they are unnecessary like others have said, she should’ve wrapped it up before eras tour if she drags it out any farther than June/July 2024 it will be way too much.

    APPRECIATION POST FOR AKA

I adore this album so much, it's still one of her bests. And the album was way ahead of its time. So unique and mesmerizing.

Every melody has a personality its own, the way how she and David Kahne played with the production is so fascinating. It's so playful. And the visuals, the homemade music videos, so gorgeous. The lyrics are so beautiful, one of her bests too. The whole album is so 'cinematically delicious'.

Every song from AKA is my favorite, but songs that are closer to my heart are Kill Kill (my first fave!), Brite Lites, Yayo, Raise Me Up, Mermaid Motel and Oh Say Can You See.

Anthony Fantano having AKA in his top 5 is so surprising.

    You speak out my mind.

But besides, I know Lana does many variants, too, plus this merch drip drop of items and vinyls (UV in September, L4L in November, Candy Necklace in October...) - and I am critical towards this as well. I am blaming them all for this, not just TS, lol. The thing is that just because other artists do this as well, no artist is justified in doing it, too. Taylor just manages to even top this sh** by her 48-hours selling strategy.

Of course people can argue that fans don't need to buy, but we all know how many will buy it. I think in times of climate change all those artists, who are millionaires btw, should be a bit more responsible by limiting themselves to a few variants sold in the same shop at the same time, so not too many vinyls get produced and too many unnecessary parcels get sent.

When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing is one of her best songs

I love the political songs in LFL, I kinda love the quirky production which flirts between folk, electronica, soft rock, pop, hip hop, trap, indie and ballads. I think it is folktronica

And I love the lyrics too, they're kinda campy and have a quirk feel

god bless america is actually the most underrated song from lfl, it actually has some clever lyrics (the political songs have terrible writing tbh...) and the melody is so catchy. i also love that its a mix of folky and pop production!

also- i kind of think that lfl has her best attempts at a folk sound i don't even consider nfr folky, it's much more psychedelic + singer-songwriter vibes.

Agree it's the middle of the haunting trio that is the run from A&W to Candy Necklace. It's hated because of his involvement with the mega church, fans barely let Lana get away with her involvement. And they also dug into Judah Smith's history and found he did xyz "bad" thing, so ofc he had to be dealt with. Some people hate it because they have religious trauma which I understand. But I do think the reaction has been completely over the top, I remember many brawls went down here 😆 If it was anyone preaching besides Judah Smith I feel like people would have appreciated it more as a moment on the album

Judah Smith Interlude is genius and perfect exactly where it is, exactly how it is. Subtle, genius, spot on.
Jon Batiste Interlude is the lesser out of the two of them but still, once again, perfect exactly where and how it is.
Both interludes are extremely consistent with the themes of the album and do exactly what they were meant to do.
I honestly do not understand all the interlude hate. If you don't get them, skip them. You'll be missing out on the album as it is intended to be experienced and Lana's full genius but whatever.
