don't really want them on another album other then their own, but I was wondering bcs she did do that soundcheck singing pretty baaaaaaaabyyyyyyyyy, so idk maybe her lyrics inspired her recently, she does have a habit of writing in little nods to her past work

I think this is right. In that same Blue Banisters livestream she talked about maybe doing something called “Country and Western” which would have been “country plus Cali” in her words — to me, this suggests she was going to combine literally all of the covers into one album (Pacific Blue  / other folk songs / country covers). 
 
I’m thinking Lasso is a collection of *original* country songs written with Jack Antonoff, Nikki Lane, and Luke Laird — with the one customary cover (akin to Paradise, Ultraviolence, Honeymoon, NFR, and Chemtrails), and I think that cover is Stand By Your Man. 

i think lasso indeed evolved from this nikki lane album thing, it was never supposed to be a duet album right? i think it was just songs they wrote together not necessarily recorded together 

Just drop Lasso & then follow it up with a covers album or vice versa. I don’t want an album that’s half covers & half new songs. Or an album that’s full of cringey country collabs!

What I really love about pre release eras as well are all the artist recommendations and I definitely have to look in the "post country music" thread later. I love to discover new music, new artists and get deeper into genres and educate myself on them and that's also one of the many reasons what I love about Lana tapping into different genres (and I love that she does her own spin of them too obviously) and what artists inspired her. I might not enjoy always everything I hear but going on a musical journey is always nice and if you discover artists and songs you love it's like a double win

I like Nikki’s voice but I agree that it overpowers Lana’s
 
But I feel like that’s an issue I have with most of Lana’s collabs, that she tends to let the other person take the wheel vocally
