I can’t say I’m surprised, flowers itself was poor, the only reason it blew up was the back story

Miley Cyrus's new album got a 6.2 from Pitchfork. Oops

(Totally deserved low score, I couldn't even finish the album). Hopefully Lana scores a "Best new album" tag, which I think is anything 8.1 or above.

I prefer Taco Truck x VB as a title tbh but I think that's because I stockholm syndromed myself into liking all the song titles cause I thought the tracklist was absolutely horrible when it first got revealed

Not me just falling for a link to a candy necklace snippet only to be given an audio calling me a dumb bitch repeatedly…. Although I do feel like one now for falling for it

You know what would be sick? A Pink Floyd comfortably numb or the eagles hotel California level guitar solo in one of her songs. I need that. Put Blake to work

Are those not misheard lyrics though? She clarified in the Tiktok that it's "Got a cop who turned down the back beat" just like how the lyrics in Get Free are "For Amy & for Whitney", she censors it to being "For ___ and for ___" but it doesn't add random lyrics there. Of course, you could argue that she's singing the original lyrics, because she then sings "Like I'm invisible, you should've told me" which isn't in the final track. But "God's a charlatan down the back beat" doesn't make sense

That's it, that's all I wanted to say

That's why they said that Lana should not release any single for this album.

If I had anything to guess about the intentions. I think Lana is very much still a Christian (considering she has been spotted at Church recently) but she was going through a dark period of her life and her belief in God may have been disrupted and became foggy.

I don’t think Judah would have hopped on the album if it was just a song to mock him and Christianity, I think there’s a deeper meaning to it. She contains multitudes after all.

No it's not, you can hear in the dolby atmos stems it's "Got a [shhh!] who turned on the backbeat" and everyone misheard it

Isn’t the lyric “got a [censored] who turned on the back beat, busts the shower on while he calls me”

    not “god’s a char”

It’s all fine and dandy that you, as an atheist, don’t care but there are people who might. Not everyone has a healthy relationship with religion (particularly people who belong to large groups that religion frequently affects and undermines) so to boil it down to “art should be challenging” is a bit misguided, in my respectful opinion. I really don’t think it’s that exaggerated of a notion that someone might get triggered by listening to a male preacher spewing (and screaming) religious bullshit.

I for one think the track has a lot of potential and knowing Lana, there might be a subversion to it (as you said) and this is probably the closest we have to the sound and feel of Bare Feet On Linoleum (one of my favorite things she’s ever done) so it’s already a win for me. I just don’t think it’s fair to say people shouldn’t feel uncomfortable with it/people who won’t appreciate it, don’t get that art should be challenging. Sometimes we don’t like to be challenged on certain things and that’s also ok.

A&W is what precedes disorienting phase of the record that contains the interludes and Candy Necklace - the American Whore segment is congruent with the sonority of the first 3 tracks (stripped back, sweeping instrumentation) even though it’s grungier and with a darker allure; on the other hand the Jimmy segment is dirty, messy (in a good way) and chaotic. I think it makes narrative sense for A&W to be placed as it is, going by everything we know/have heard so far about the album. Plus, I think it’s a cute throwback to NFR having an almost 10 minutes track as the third song of the record.

Fingertips belongs in a sequence of the album where she’s delving into the depths of her past and memory: sparse instrumentals to kind of force the listeners to pay attention to what might very well be darkest lyrics of her career so far. From there she goes into a more lighter tone where she seems to be navigating her thoughts in a way that feels more gentle (Paris, Texas + Grandfather + Let The Light In, Margaret, etc) before entering her signing off bang bang kiss kiss with the last three tracks, racing freely out of the black, into the blue.

The tracklist feels incredibly deliberate this time. Or maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about
