During Honeymoon's leak and release I felt completely in love with it and kept listening to it on repeat. But now after days have gone by I feel like it's going to be an album I place on the shelf and only listen to when I'm reminded about it. Sure, it's Lana's most mature work so far but for me UV is still her best. Honeymoon is beautiful and less autobiographical but I feel like it's missing those monotone Lana cliches that I love (you have to admit she is very monotone lol). IDK this album is missing her Lana razzle-dazzle. It's slightly boring compared to the rest of her work but it's definitely a stride in the right direction. Still a very impactful album but certainly not her best. I guess I have to go back to listening to Sirens, UV, and her unreleased

This pretty much sums up how I feel about the record. I feel like all of the songs are beautiful melodically and are rather interesting production-wise (excluding a few tracks), and she sounds so ethereal and angelic throughout most of the album, albeit, I don't feel any sort of connection this album like I have her previous works. It's not that it's emotionless, because I think at certain moments she sounds extremely emotional, but I just personally am struggling to relate or empathise with the album as a whole. Like, the songs are amazing, but I just don't feel much of anything when I listen to the album, like I do with songs like Bel Air, Video Games, Born to Die, Ultraviolence, West Coast, Shades of Cool, Gods & Monsters, and so on. Honeymoon is almost too relaxed.

Also, the lyrics are a huge step-down compared to all of her last albums, in my opinion. What happened to the elaborate descriptions of Off to the Races, or the poetic nature of songs like Bel Air and West Coast, or the intelligent lyricism behind songs like Gods & Monsters or Dark Paradise? I miss those days. Honeymoon has pretty mediocre lyrics compared to the past, and I think Lana even knows that herself, considering she mentioned in a couple of interviews this era that she wasn't very focused on the lyrics, but more on creating interesting soundscapes. Apart from the bridge and the "dreaming away your life" lines in the title track, the lyrics are overly-simplistic and rather cliche. God Knows I Tried, Swan Song and Honeymoon all suffer from Sad Girl Chorus syndrome, where the choruses contain some of the laziest lyrics in Lana's history. Even one of my favourite tracks on the album, Salvatore, has some odd lyrics that are overly quirky ("soft ice cream", "cacciatore" anyone?) 24 is perhaps the biggest lyrical disappointment on the album.

Overall, it's a lovely album that I really do admire, but I feel like it's even more of a mood record than Ultraviolence. It's a record I'm sure I'll put on to calm myself down or when I'm feeling relaxed, but it's not an album you can play whenever, if that makes sense. Still really appreciate that Lana is putting out new material so quickly and very beautiful music as well, but I can't deny the fact that in some ways, Lana did get worse this era.

A few days after release...I think Honeymoon is simultaneously both her musical best and her most...boring. I like the songs, but something about the album as a whole bores me to tears.

I really wish Lana would stop covering Nina Simone tracks. She's tried her best covering TOW and DLMBM but it always feels lackluster somehow. IDK those type of songs don't suit her voice at all IMO. I'm also massively put off by the production on both of them aswell....

Honeymoon did the unthinkable and topped UV for me but not necessarily because of purely musical reasons, it's because it's dark but it's happy, and it's reclaimed which is the EXACT state I am in right now. I wish I had discovered UV earlier because this record is an absolute jewel especially in its indulgence in self-awareness of the sadness, it's a blunt word but I can't find another one, melancholia maybe. Honeymoon, when I actually really dislike this name in itself compared to the spectacular ultraviolence term, is the incredible and extremely cohesive follow-up to this sadness. It reminds me of earlier this year when I got back into severe depression and I can pinpoint the exact moment I turned back and got up. Honeymoon feels like this. It feels like acknowledging the melancholia, but instead of easily being overwhelmed by it, reclaiming it and controlling it. I don't want to say that I prefer Honeymoon just because it's just out and I love theoretically everything Lana does. I've never related that much to any artist ever and I feel a real connection to the way she approaches her work and mine. I apologize, I don't want to sound pretentious, I am just completely astonished to find myself in front of a work that is the exact depiction of the path my mind took this past year, exactly in the same time than the UV and Honeymoon eras. Whereas in UV there are songs that I basically ignore, in Honeymoon, I find myself respecting the songs that I find to be less spectacular because of how obvious it is that this piece of work is seamless solid and cohesive and makes sense as a whole, in maybe a much less raw and raspy way than UV, but in a polished assurance, and full of extreme and pure emotion.

tl;dr: Honeymoon is the best album ever made in my humble opinion, but not necessarily musically.

I kind of like that Hm repeats 'our honeymoon' in the chorus and swan song, at the end of the album, repeats 'it'll be our swan song' in the chorus. Really feels like a beginning and an end

I liked the interpretation of the 3 albums and Paradise being linked together as an interpretation of a relationship.

Born to Die is about a young and budding relationship. It is obvious from the title and the themes that the relationship is doomed to end, and that it has its problems, but overall it is a happy relationship.

Paradise is the peak of the joyfulness of the relationship. Like the name, this is the most at "paradise" she feels in the relationship.

During Ultraviolence, things begin to fall apart. From her alcoholism to domestic violence, she begins to attempt escaping the relationship. She knows it is wrong and brutal, but can't quite escape yet.

Honeymoon is an ironic "honeymoon" - in that she is finally breaking away from the relationship. She is becoming one on her own, picking music to watch new boys to, and just wanting to get high by the beach instead of putting up with the significant other. The honeymoon is her own freedom and once again exploring herself.

    AMEN.

Is it me or Honeymoon is supposed to be the Ultraviolence "more spiritual" album....???
