Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

Recommended Posts

I feel like NFR is very weak lyrically, among other things. MAC was actually pretty decent imo, and although I love Cinnamon, the lyrics are just...very plain and sparse.

I had fifteen-year dances

Church basement romances, yeah, I've cried
Spilling my guts with the Bowery Bums
Is the only love I've ever known
Except for the stage, which I also call home, when I'm not
Servin' up God in a burnt coffee pot for the triad
Hello, it's the most famous woman you know on the iPad
Calling from beyond the grave, I just wanna say, "Hi, Dad"

uhhhhhhhh are we listening to the same songs?

Pawlow would love this thread. As soon as she drops a new snippet you all start to drool over a possible repease although this "era" should have taught you it means NOTHING (see Happiness Is A Butterfly. See Cinnamon. See How To Disappear. See In Your Car)

Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!

Yes, HIADT is good lyrically, but even with HIADT along with MAC, personally to me that leaves only two songs out of all the others that are lyrically strong, whereas her past albums have had strong lyrics throughout almost each and every song.

"Blue hydrangea, cold cash divine

Cashmere, cologne and white sunshine

Red racing cars, sunset and vine

The kids were young and pretty

Where have you been?

Where did you go?

Those summer nights seem long ago

And so is the girl you used to call

The queen of New York City"

i think it's way better than Hope in terms of lyrics, but this is just my opinion

Agree.

I agree, Hope isn’t her best song lyrically, it’s good though. But another example of overhyped, some fans they seem to suffer amnesia where they forget all her previous songs and bodies of work “this is the best shes ever done” even when a song has only been out 5 minutes.

i was impressed by the literary nature of this part in particular tbf. it's so, so different from any of the other lyrics she's done and is well considered. there's no references to cars or money or hollywood. it's why i felt especially annoyed at 'wild on you' when this is what she's capable of

There's things I wanna say to you, but I'll just let you live

listing beautiful words does not good lyrics make

Exactly. Old money is stunning and one of the great songs in her repertoire and it’s lyrics successfully evoke that tragic old Hollywood romance, but that’s because it lists a bunch of stuff that fits that aesthetic. It works very well, like recalling isolated images from a dream or a distant memory but I don’t think it digs as deep as hope.

Anyways, the fact that she hasn’t posted a third IG post has brought me back down to reality a bit. I hoped she was going to give us a little more of a teaser over the weekend of something. Something alluding to the fact that something’s coming. The fact that she hasn’t just means we are literally where we’ve always been, just with one extra snippet to add to the collection.

I’m not as agitated, though, because the only thing that ever got me down was the nagging bit in my head that was scared it really was scrapped or that it’s been reworked extensively and neither of those thing seem to be the case.

i feel like her lyrics are so much more thoughtful and metaphorical now over her red party dress days .. idk what some of you are smoking .... listing beautiful words does not good lyrics make

Yeah, it’s mainly nostalgia. And I think a lot of fans miss her vibrant, campy visuals as well.

The “hi Dad” lyric is haunting, IMO. The most famous woman (his daughter, now a star) reaching out after being elusive for some time.

@lanadelrey just gave us a sneak peek of the title track off her upcoming album, #normanfuckingrockwell, and we can’t wait to hear her perform it at #lollastockholm in less than two weeks.

I hope they're not just guessing
