It's basically that tbh it's not like they're not in control, bc we know that Taylor-Lana-Lorde would actually say NO to something they don't like.They all approved those choices, but it doesn't change the fact that the melodies/chord progression/wtv it's called are recycled. I mean, tbh I feel like, even though Taylor is a Lana fan, she might not even know those songs/might be busy to listen to them (since she was doing two records + re-recording old stuff), or wtv. And Lorde had beef w Lana, and even if that's all in the past, I don't think she'll listen to Lana's stuff so, again, she also might not even know those songs lmao 

Anyway, I'm not a Lorde fan, but Mood Ring and California are my favs so far.

To be honest, some songs being non-melodic probably won't be a problem since I listen to Jenny Hval whose music often incorporates spoken word and avant garde.
