I think I couldn't even enjoy half of the songs cause the whole era and build up was SO misleading. The album is funky and fun and that's good but not what I came for. Honestly not even sure anymore if I wanna see her on tour for this album. 24 minutes ago, ByDayAnother said: Man, this was disappointing! Like, I don’t even have comprehensive criticism, it’s as simple as “meh”, which is wild because when Gaga is good, she’s the best in terms of dance pop songwriting, and when she’s bad, it’s at least camp. I literally can’t remember anything. Perfect Celebrity and Shadow Of A Man were enjoyable, I think. so intrigued by your takes! i haven't listened yet - how would you say the record compares to her other albums and do you think the nine inch nails / grunge / industrial influence comes thru at all?

There is very little industrial influence. She leans into pseudo-Bowie-isms here and there. I hear Queen in Blades Of Grass. Very few hooks. I don’t remember hearing much (if any) dark pop, which is my favourite Gaga. The aesthetic presentation of the album is completely off the mark except for Disease, which sounds completely out of place sonically. I personally see little similarity to her other albums because of how basic it sounds (except for Joanne, which however basic at least was cohesive), and where it sounds interesting, well, it sounds like imitations of other artists as mentioned.

X8vinylScratchX 5,070 Posted 3 hours ago Wait i’m actually invested LOTS of buzz words being thrown around like grunge and industrial and i highly doubt it but we’ll see… Disease and Abracadabra were neat enough but if thats the best the album has to offer it’ll be kinda so so. I was listening to her discography the other day and the first three albums have so many BOPS and i had no idea that Million Reasons song was by Lady Gaga i always thought it was like Kelly Clarkson or something LOL

Gaga literally told us that we think we know what we are getting into with the first 2 songs but that it's gonna be completely different after. The album is called MAYHEM for a reason, it does many different genres, and honestly that's a good thing imo it highlights what made Gaga so great from The Fame to ARTPOP

rightofjupiter 16,901 Posted 2 hours ago Very 70s/80s influenced which would usually be a good thing (for me) but feels mostly kind of bland and lifeless imo. On first listen I’m finding it very mid- I LOVE chromatica so this feels like a step backwards but I’m sure others feel differently. Agree that DWAS is much better vibe indicator than disease or abracadabra.

lakeemmahottie 1,941 Posted 2 hours ago Like the album's suggestive artworks and titles, it's very split. The first side is very in your face, carelessly fun and makes iconic references to past eras through it's production or lyricism in one way or another. Mayhem as a word totally sums up the body of work due to it's diverse nature. The second half is truly the beauty of the album where the songs are less crazy and more beautiful. It wasn't what I was expecting and I was hoping for more songs like Disease and Abcadabra with an insane production value that could truly reach back into being another ARTPOP for Gaga, but this comes close enough. I definitely would say this album is a more interesting and consistent compared to her last two solo records and possibly sees a spot in my top 3 Gaga albums. No rating, but in summary, it's a really good album. Faves: Disease, Abracadabra, Zombieboy, Perfect Celerity, How Bad Do U Want Me, Shadow Of A Man, The Beast Also I kinda agree with the singles being misleading, but Mayhem as an album, I found it incredibly surprising which is the greatest dynamic of the album. 2 Quote SOPHIE • ARCA • SKY FERREIRA • YEULE • CHARLI XCX • WILL TOLEDO • JAMIE STEWART • CHELSEA WOLFE • YUNG LEAN • ECCO2K • NATURAL SNOW BUILDINGS • EARTHEATER • FIONA APPLE • BJÖRK • ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF • KRISTIN MICHAEL HAYTER • RICHARD D JAMES • DEADMAU5 • MICHAEL GIRA • LIZ PHAIR • LANA DEL REY • TINASHE • FKA TWIGS • DEATH GRIPS • SNOW STRIPPERS • A.
