Lady Gaga? Katy Perry? I can’t think who else she’s openly criticised

exactly!! this is why i cant stand people who are so classically trained that all they have is technical ability. no character, no emotion, nothing. just a technically “good” voice.

An educated guess is Big Sur. Lana is among the redwoods, which themselves remind people of a cathedral.
    Photo: TW Mitchell
TW Mitchell's description of the place is: Big Sur on Highway 1 is a wild place full of windswept cliffs, wildflowers, rugged beaches, and deep canyons full of coastal redwoods. This stretch of highway between the Carmel Highlands and San Simeon is the longest and most scenic stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States and is one of the most beautiful coastlines anywhere in the world. If you have an SUV take the Old Coast Road at Bixby Bridge and explore the back canyons and cattle country of of this little known road. You will pass through forests of redwoods and colorful chaparral in the Santa Lucia Mountains. This is a long drive of two or more hours from one end to the other so be prepared for solitude and vastness away from the crowds of people at the state parks.
The description, above, sounds typical Lana and the Grant family exploration goals. Could they be scouting a wedding venue? Deep in the woods, remote, "vastness away from the crowds."

It's a generational thing. Joan and artists from her era take pride in in-person interactions. It's not like artists nowaday who do collaborations without ever meeting in person. Don't take it too literally, she just wanted to get to know Lana first.

As already said before - there is no excuse for playing any BtD song but Summertime Sadness and Video Games. Born To Die and Blue Jeans should be optional tracks for a setlist but that's it.
The shows are played to audiences featuring over-obsessive-stans either way, so there is no reason to bring the "bUt BtD iS hEr mOsT pOpUlAr aLbUm". EVERY other artists switches their live-sets to mainly new songs when they release an album. For Lana it's a highlight if she decides to perform MTWBT 3 years after it's release and if she "adds some spice" to her setlist it means she's doing Lolita or OTTR
The worst thing is when she comes around with the "the band has not learned the track yet" excuse. Her instrumentals aren't that complex and if the band was actually not able to learn those new songs, she should ditch them.
Maybe her vocals have improved, but every tour after the Paradise-tour was a big decline. By now, she has those annoying backgroundforeground-dancers that do cringy moves while Lana herself performs the most commitment-issues-loaded, half-assed version of the  "choreo".

And she barely even sings and lets the backing vox do all the work.
But then, most of the fans are only there to celebrate their stan-ism, to shout and cry and sing along and behave like a child. I can see why there is not really any use in putting effort into performing. If she actually hits some great notes, noone will hear it because they all scream their lungs out with their pathetic YAAAAASS-ing anyway.

i mean, hate both  smoking kills slowly over time, vaping is giving lung diseases (& death) to teens and young adults who otherwise are in good health... i'd rather her not do either. did she say she was vaping to get off cigarettes?? i didn't know that. good for her!! but i still just don't want her touching either :/ i know recovering from addiction is incredibly hard and takes a lot of willpower and self determination (and outside help) but idk i'm just fjdhgvhjdfgshj concerned for her health. i wish she hadn't started either in the first place (i'm sorry i probably sound like everyone's least favorite mom but smoking in general just Really bothers me and i don't have the patience to be nice about it. it's all around evil)

anyways i hope yall don't hate me or get offended i just don't want anything to happen to her hsfdkhjgkh

edit: also should say that vaping is an addiction of it's own and i have friends who say they wanna quit, especially with all the articles coming out recently, but really don't seem to be making any effort like they know it's bad but think "that won't happen to me though" everyone thinks they're invincible until they're not. i might be a little bitter and projecting my friends onto lana but she doesn't seem to take it very seriously either, vaping on stage?? posting vids vaping to ariana grande and laughing when she said "don't vape" doesn't seem like she's really that concerned imo. i know it's her choice but i'm allowed to be concerned too

I broke the printer at work and I'm feeling quite highly strung rn, so I'm going to rant:

In the recent Billboard (?) interview, and in reply to someone on Insta, Ed basically admitted they give her the freedom to do what she wants. That's obviously a very good thing in some ways, but in other ways it is not.

She is surrounded by "yes" people. She has admitted that she is lazy and nobody around her is willing to push her for whatever reason. This is why nothing ever changes. I mean, her idea of an overhaul is adding two new songs (NFR and Bartender - and not even singing half of the latter), carting out a peach tree and hanging some shit from the rafters of the stage. Yawn.

I don't know if it's because the people around her just lack vision or what, but it's frustrating.

This is a separate issue to her live shows but just to illustrate that point further: NFR's messy production. I know people keep saying that she purposely kept the production to a minimum on NFR but that's not the same as having messy production, and I'm sorry, but that's what it is. There are glaring errors - for example, the volume changes in HTD - which imo, are inexcusable. She admitted that she enjoys working with Jack because he doesn't say no to her, and doesn't tell her when something sucks "like other producers do". In other words, he's a "yes" person.

Nothing will ever change because the vast majority of her fans are enablers who think any feedback other than "OMG LANA ILY U R SO PERFECT" is mean. So like, she probably reads her insta comments, and thinks "oh yeah! They love my shows!" and it's true, most of them probably do. However, at the risk of sounding snobby, those are the same people who don't give a fuck about the deeper meaning of her art and I think Lanz has, for a long time, yearned to be taken more seriously as an artist. If she wants that, she needs to take risks and evolve, and that includes her shows, instead of being lazy and pandering to the masses.

I thought it might be nice for us to have a collective thread for one-off fan art, covers and the like; for people not wanting to open their own thread (Mods: sorry if already exists, I did have a look, please change the title if you have a more appropriate idea)

Anyway I made myself some cover art. I wanted matching sets for each collection (hence the borders), but also different photos for each song. I had nice ideas for some songs, others I just used pretty photos of her. I tried to keep photos to respective eras unless I had a cute idea. Tried to give a vintage effect to most photos, or a 'blue hydrangea' effect for ultra songs, but I've been fairly lazy on the polishing of some (my attention span is atrocious). I kept the single covers the same as the official ones for some as sometimes she gets it right. There are covers for Paradise, Ultra, Btd and HM.

Popping them in here on the off chance someone else wishes to use them. Examples below.

Lana would defintely fail the reading comprehension portion of US standardized testing. She always changes the question in her head before she answers it (which makes it sound poetic but also allows her to circumvent the question and answer with only what she wants to say) It's the result of media training following unflattering (in Lana's eyes) BTD interviews imo

I still love her interviews though and I do think a lot of what she says actually does have a point
