if i had to give a grammy to A&W or Kill Bill i would give it to Lana... and i say that out of fanaticism, that reminds me of when Bad Guy won over NFR, i love billie, but the lyrics of NFR completely sweeps bad guy....

I never got the “indie” snubbing of Lana- this crap all happened after the trust fund baby claims- then everyone acted like she was a Katy Perry popstar and slated her for being “pop starved” in the words of the guardian   she’s more deserving than the those girls sorry!

Yeah I feel like Lana is often seen as too pop for alternative categories and too alternative for pop categories.

I seriously hope not…she’d have a fucking heart attack at all the criticisms an opinions on here. We all know she’s a sensitive soul.

I think it’s rare that Lana makes a bad song, but I was thinking about this when watching Beth Therese’s reaction video and she talked about how piano-heavy the album was. I just think the piano ballads of COTCC and BB were more basic and stripped back, whereas these piano ballads have a lot of interesting production on top of them. I mean you can see that the melodies, lyrics, and vocals aren’t the problem when you see people gushing over the LMLYLAW demo. Pretty much the only difference is the production.

Not to sound pretentious but this album has made all the music I normally listen to sound so basic and simplistic.  It feels like it’s ruined other music for me, hopefully just temporarily.

These are mostly personal associations for me:

AKA - summer, midwest and southern USA, corn fields and plains, gas stations, motels  Born To Die - summer, swimming pool, Fourth of July, summer nights Paradise - winter, dark, cold, depressing Ultraviolence - summer, lake, hot, humid Honeymoon - September at dusk and early nighttime, cool nighttime weather, driving at night on peaceful roads with windows down Lust For Life - parking lots, politics, my ex, specifically summer 2017 since I listened to it the most then and that summer was weird and unique for me anyways NFR - late summer, evening into sunset into dusk into dark, golden plains with sun still shining but dark gray storm clouds looming on the horizon, boats, the beach Chemtrails - autumn, fog, mist, saloons, cottages, Midwest gothic aesthetic, also the pandemic right before we got vaccines  Blue Banisters - autumn into winter Ocean Blvd - black and white, cloudy, rainy, religion, loss, family, heaven
This made me notice the the albums that I have the least distinct things associated with them (Paradise, LFL, Blue Banisters) are also my least favorite albums. I wonder if it’s because I listen to them the least that I have less things to associate them with or if I like them less because I don’t have things to associate them with. Interesting.

I don't think it's her worst album, but I have an intuition that it is sort of an end in a way, or the end of a cycle, or of another cycle.

If she is indeed engaged and will marry soon (I'm not 100% convinced of this, due to the fairly large number of men she's been involved with over the last 11 years), I think she will shortly want one or more children, and then inevitably her life will change, including her creative life.

If so, then once she has a child, it may be a perfect time to release some sort of career retrospective of some kind, large or small, with a certain amount of unreleased material, or the 'American Standards' album if that was ever completed, or the next poetry record.
