According to Jaime King, this story is true

i think everything you said here is completely wrong. just bc lana used older songs doesn't mean she dropped her original concept bc they actually do fit into the concept quite well. no, they weren't written for this record but they didn't fit the records she was making when she made those songs so she put them aside til they did fit a concept. some were leaked but thats irrelevant since they were never officially released til then. its just like how yosemite was written for lust for life but fits chemtrails' concept better or how california and the next best american record fit norman's concept perfectly. and songs like black bathing suit and beautiful weren't outtakes so idk what that's about and they do fit blue banisters' concept if you keep in mind that the concept isn't just about her family, but about her whole life and what's important to her which includes her struggles with the media, not just her family. the album isn't sonically cohesive and can feel a bit messy but it definitely has a clear concept and still feels like a proper album. like when i play the album for non-fans who don't know a the history of the leaked songs and whatnot they don't see the album as a mess or lacking a concept. unpopular opinion but even tho i like ocean blvd more than blue banisters, i'd say blue banisters has a clearer concept and overall theme than ocean blvd.

God. This fandom and it’s entitlement are unbearable.

”you do what you want instead of pleasing us”
Is that not the literal reason why we are fans of Lana? because she doesn’t sell out and is authentic?

I agree that cohesion is important in a record (HM and Chemtrails are my faves for a reason) but luckily even in her least cohesive albums the songs are still somehow grouped in a way. For example LFL has a lot of different sounds but they are like segments of the album (the classic Lana tracks + ballads, the folky songs and the bops). Same with Ocean which in my opinion is really cohesive, it's just that the last 3 tracks are way different than the rest of the album

I feel like Lana has a too distinct and iconic sound to ever do a truly not cohesive record like it sometimes happens with artists that just create playlist-like albums with songs that are given to them.
I think songwriters as a whole usually have a minimum cohesion on their records just by the fact that they tend to be in a particular headspace when creating their albums

Truly one of her best videos so I get her frustration  It's not really a music video though, it needs to be properly focused on like a film to be appreciated.

UGH knowing lana asked a fan if the choreo was “too much” makes me upset she saw this comment. she teeters between not giving a fuck and being self-conscious/anxious.

The hope performance kind of reminds me of a streetcar named desire like she’s being hauled away to a mental hospital at the end or smth

when lana sees us arguing over which producer should work on LDR10 and instead produces the album by herself on garageband

In one of her interviews this year, Lana did say that the process of making albums with Rick existed in a "vacuum" of sorts –– and that's not to say that that's a bad thing at all. Those earlier albums are meticulously arranged and contain a lot of intentionality in their presentation, which requires some level of spatial distance from things to really focus ("in this town, an artist really needs a lot of space when they're trying to create something special," as Lana said in the Lust for Life trailer). But it's clear that Lana operates communally and has really leaned into the experience of making an album for the sake of sharing ideas within a community of songwriters –– that's evident in how she speaks of her crew in Echo Park (Drew Erickson, Zach Dawes, Benji Lysaght, Dean Reid, etc.) and of Jack Antonoff. Her recording music with local musicians and instrumentalists in Alabama really hones in on this idea of making music for the sake of the experience, rather than just the final product –– and I think that breathes a different kind of life into the music, as though the context transforms the way it's listened to. So it's just cool to be on that journey with her –– and this is not to preach from any high horse or anything, but I think you enjoy the music more when you just let it be released without any expectation of what you think it should sound like. (But I get that that's simply the paradox of being a devoted fan, so there's no way to completely get rid of that).

I just know lana would never work with Rick again, so if I’m being logical, I want Zach Dawes to produce her next album, like ALL BY HIMSELF
thunder - black bathing suit - California - dealer -
candy necklace - text book is all produced by zach, he’s very much capable of producing an album by himself cuz these songs r TOP TIER  even y’all who don’t like text book u can’t deny that the instrumental was perfect

it's sad how some people feel that you're basically in a nursing home, knitting sweaters in your death-bed by the time you're around 60  63 is not that old

Exactly. I think he had a good run, three albums + two spoken words projects (one released and one that is perhaps lost for good). We've heard the range.

An entirely new team, with new ideas, different vibes and thought process wouldn't be so bad at this point. I hope her little adventure in that studio in Alabama is her experiencing with new people, doing things differently.

If he produced Honeymoon at the age of 54 he’s definitely capable of producing something just as good or even better at the age of 63. His age doesn’t matter AT ALL. His productions are literally TIMELESS

63 is definitely not old--'60 its the new 40'--look at Joan Baez, still going strong at 82, Bob Dylan, 82, did some of his best work on his last album, and while Joni Mitchell has had a lot of health issues, she's at least on stage again. Blondie, led by 78 year-old Debbie Harry, just toured Britain, and that takes a lot of energy. Poor Glenn Frey was only 67 when he died, his voice still in perfect shape. DNA and lifestyle factor a lot.

If LDR works with Rick again, that's fine by me, but I'd rather see her start over with a new producer. Something fresh. Nothing muddy. Nothing repetitive.

I thought 'Blue Banisters' sounded good without Jack; I don't think he's anything like an absolute necessity to her present or future.

I don’t mind Drew. His production style is capable of sounding very warm and comforting (IYLDWM, LTLI) and I quite like that . Even the piano-driven songs he’s produced (especially Sweet) have a nice full sound to them for the most part. As far as her more recent collaborators go I personally prefer the stuff she’s done with Zach but I like a good bit of the stuff she’s done with Drew as well. Can’t go wrong with someone who helped bring Fingertips, LTLI, IYLDWM, and Sweet to life
