    A fitting final photo.
The MV for High by the Beach revolves around the press constantly following her, and then, at the end, she blows up the helicopter. Now however, she's escaping from the press again by leaving social media.
    She just wants peace.

If she did an email every once in a while like Lorde I would gladly love to subscribe! But I don’t know if she would consider it. If anything though it’s way more beneficial, she can write long ass essays about her current life and only fans would be able to read them.

Damn I was just watching her “fuck you” reel where she goes:

“It’s fun to, like, tear people down but it really discourages them from, you know, moving onto their next project but thank God I already know what I’m doing. I’m not going anywhere”

And then shifting to her newest video where she talks about shutting down her Insta to focus on other interests, skills, and endeavors. I really hope you’re okay babe. Take all the time you need

Wow this is unnecessarily harsh, and we wonder why she's deleting SM!

If you don't like her concerts then don't go. I don't get this "its better than she doesn't tour again" mentality. Not having them at all would be a loss to fans who've never seen her or not been able to see her in a long time.

Honesty what do the backup dancers do to take away from the concert? They're there to give Lana emotional support on stage due to her nerves/anxiety.

She doesn't 'Lip Sync' she has backing tracks to help create recreate the sound of her songs, most of which have multiple layers of her voice which is impossible to recreate live without backing tracks. I think she would sound great without the backing tracks, but chalking her use of backing tracks down to laziness is wrong.

And yeah I'd love if she changed the setlist up, but I think a) she feels that the audience knows the BTD songs best and she likes when they sing along b) I think she doesn't realise how much her fans love her newer music even though it might not have had the same commercial success and c) it might be tied to anxiety/nerves where its easier on her nerves to sing stuff she's very used to singing.

Omg... to think that Lana used both my edit (Blonde pic from 2009) and @Trash Magic's edit (Video Games picture, the third one of the first row) for her profile pictures, both that came from our old but gold Tumblr blog is  c r a z y. The fact that my .psd edit somehow ended up on her own personal phone/computer to end up as a profile picture warms my heart up and I'm so happy to have witnessed her whole legacy for the past 9-10 years. It was all worth it.

I am so excited to see "what it's like now", too! I think the closing track "Sweet Carolina" will answer some questions especially because it was co-written with her father and sister. Another user pointed out the album starts out with "I was looking for the father I wanted back" and ends with a song written with her father. A full circle moment

Listening to Text Book this morning and reading this thread and I have some thoughts. Just a note, this might be a COMPLETE REACH but
First, the lyrics "I guess this is really the end I've never felt jealous before this year but I'm jealous now" really hit me differently after her announcement last night. Maybe she's referencing the experience of watching her friends live a normal, fame-less life on Instagram. We know she wants privacy more than ever and is probably sick to death of the trolls commenting on her posts. Her thoughts, body, music are all open to be critiqued in the comments of her posts and I'm sure she has read some hateful things. I don't see this announcement as spur of the moment.  @lustforlife said BB is "the end of Lana Del Rey". Maybe de-activating her socials is just the first step down a road of seclusion and letting the music speak for itself.

Secondly, we know Text Book starts the album. Lana said BB is about "what it was like, what happened, and what it's like now".  The lyrics "and then there was the issue of her I didn't even like myself or love the life I had"  stuck out to me. I see these lyrics as young Lizzie speaking about not liking herself or the emotionally unstable home she lived in as a young girl / teen. In some ways, the creation of the Lana Del Rey persona saved her from that life (or maybe it felt this way to her in the beginning): it brought money,  instant adoration and freedom to build a new life for herself. Years later, though, the "Lana Del Rey" name has also brought a ton of baggage: think pieces, 0 freedom or privacy, twitter hate, etc. Maybe deactivating is just a way for her to begin tearing down this image of Lana Del Rey and only letting the music shine through. I could see her being very reclusive (like Fiona Apple) and popping out for interviews once every few years.

I don't think she will ever retire from music but this record is definitely a turning point for her. I'm excited to see the story she paints in BB and hoping it all comes together.
And maybe this is just me dwelling too much on the fact that I won't get a "Lana Del Rey posted" push notification for the foreseeable future

some of yall always have something bad to say about her, even when she's prioritizing her mental health and "professionality" doesn't matter. maybe that's why she's leaving.

truly i don't blame her. the things i've seen people say about her are absolutely repulsive.  People treat her like she's a jukebox. No matter WHAT she posts people are bringing her down, body shaming her, calling her racist, shitting on her music. She had said in an interview that the negativity she receives interferes with her creative process and it makes sense. How can anyone live a normal life when there's constant hate being thrown at you, i would absolutely break down and lose my mind so she's really strong for that.

I've been thinking about something for a while ... It doesn't seem strange to you that took Lana about two years or so to release records. And suddenly in a matter of 6 months we have had two albums? In BB, half are songs that we already know.
This reinforces the theory that she is going to sign for Capital Records. Perhaps to end her contract with Interscope she should release this record. The cover album has been announced for almost a year, and has not yet seen the light. This may suggest that Interscope disagreed with the project, and same with the second book of poetry.

Of course the timing to leave social networks is strange, just before the album. Also in this era there has been less promotion than in COCC, and there was little there. We have known everything thanks to the insiders.
It is also very strange that in the BB era we did not receive many of the vinyl versions in Europe.

We already know how Lana is. She was not comfortable with social networks. She uploads photos and after a few minutes delete them. I think the best thing is to take some time for herself and disconnect. Also at the beginning of the year, she said that she was going to be away from SM for a while. And she came back weeks later, and surely that will happen again. All we have to do is respect her decision and support it.

I feel like people saying this are not understanding. We are Lana fans, we are used to not knowing anything of her for long periods of time lol. The problem I think is the tone of the video and her slurred speech as someone else noticed. She sounds really sad and her wording basically makes it feel like a goodbye and as if we're not gonna hear from her in a long while, hence why people doubt about her making music even though she repeatedly says she will continue working.
It's normal for her to be emotional on an announcement like this, but not only does she sound sad, it feels like it was not her decision, so people are worried. I think that if the tone was different everyone would be like "well it's sad but we hope it's for the best".

I mean IMO Instagram sucks just for a regular person, can't imagine what it must be like for someone like her who gets constantly trashed by thousands of people no matter what she posts

For those asking "how are we going to get updates now???!!"
The way we use to get updates 20 years ago before social media existed - by the artist's official website. Just go to Lana's official website and see if they added updates in there. https://www.lanadelrey.com/homepage/
    No biggie.
Also, some of you are getting too hysterical over this. She's not dead nor is she retiring. She's just deactivating and living her life. Believe it or not, social media didn't always exists. Back in the 90's when I was a kid, we got updates straight from the radio, VH1 and MTV.
Lorde and Fiona Apple aren't on social media, and look how well they get their music out there. Nothing to be so worried about.

it's cus the culture can't really appreciate who she is past what she was born into. she's a privileged white woman sure yes, but also her circumstances and all that's lead her to where she is today still have to be respected as such. we dk what she had to go thru to do so. that and to have ur privacy taken away. i retreat after going out n spending my social battery even if i feign things like a pro cus i like my alone time just as a normal person, imagine at the scale she's had to stay in.

and regardless of where someone's from, or the amount of struggle n steps someone might have to go thru or not as much, I think we can all at least empathize w that at some level to be able to just respect the pain of where someone's at n heal together or find some common ground.

n not to discount or say what anyone should feel etc. but I truly believe that society isn't there yet when it comes to treating each other better. i think it's cus differences are sort of used to divide instead of coming together from mult backgrounds n perspectives and so on. i think the lesson is that u have to be careful on who lets u feed ur pain instead of allowing u to heal w you.

just be careful to think and feel thru things urself and w those u trust. the part where she mentions if u think that u know urself u can come over on Arcadia, there's a wisdom and security in knowing urself to not be manipulated by others so u can give urself the fairest chance of who u want to be for yourself, not who someone might nudge u to be.

i understand that it’s sad that she’s “leaving” socials as it’s a way we connect with her but why r people punching the air so hard? she’s a grown woman, let her live out her troubled poet phase x

(plus she’ll come back with some cryptic post in a few months)

I honestly feel like something happened; the vibe in that video isn't a good one as others have noted and as an Aries I completely understand the kind of, "that's IT fuck EVERYTHING" reactionary approach all too well and I think that's what this is and she will be back before long
