Setlist aside- and I get that we at LB are a specialized audience- her nerves were nerving and it really affected her vocal performance, plus she didn’t sing much of the time- that is my only real gripe, and again can’t blame her bc how terrifying!! But I hope she gets some beta blockers and finds a way to step into her power next weekend bc we know from recent tour that she can deliver vocals and confidence.

that outro  easily one of the most iconic moments of her entire career

it went from delightful americana to haunted 4th of July parade/The Shining to an 80's Guess supermodel/astronaut's wife/Marilyn being saluted by a line of hell's angels as she floated away into darkness

Ugh the outro was so so good. That right there is something to build an entire set around. Could've been a big Gatsby party with some reworkings of songs with more big band live instrumentation. But Alas.

Just got to the hologram section. Wow. That was seriously so stirring  Who else is giving a posthumous performance whilst still alive. Self-referential with SNL and a commentary on the mortality of the artist.

I see some of y’all still displaying copious amounts of tasteless copy-paste one liners about how Kintsugi and/or Fingertips are boring and should have stayed as poems - as if Lana’s writing hasn’t at least since 2017 been merging the two art forms consistently. Between this and the anti-piano brigade… it’s a tragedy. I see nothing Greek in it

I've listened to the whole album three or four times and it might be one of my favourites, I love Hollywood fairytale feel of it and appreciate she threw in some sexy numbers at the end to keep everyone happy overall. I think it's a really clever album!

Though I can see how the last three tracks sound like bonus tracks and it can make perfect sense to end the album at Margaret, I think the album is perfect as is. The last three tracks add a lot of dynamism to the album. I think it would’ve been too heavy of an album without them even though Margaret is a cute happy ending. Also, having the last three songs feels like the album more strongly ties into A&W which seems like the defining song on the album. The album before Margaret feels like the first half of A&W while the last three tracks feel like the second half. I wouldn’t like the album as much without the last three tracks.

Firstly, Lana does have experience producing and has those credits on multiple songs. She's been doing it since the Lizzy Grant days. Ultraviolence (which half of this site acts like is the only album Lana's ever made that's worth listening to) even has songs where Lana has producer credits (PWYC and Guns and Roses). I simply don't think it's accurate to say that Lana's not a producer because she's done it before and I'm sure she'll do it again.

Secondly, the producer is not the artist! It's really that simple. At the end of the day, it's not about what the producer wants because it's not their album. I think people hold way too much stock in the man behind the scene rather than the person who's actually putting the album out, writing the music, and hiring these producers to help her to best display her vision. It's not about the producers: it's about Lana.

This is a very stupid argument that should not be had in this thread so moving on. I'm really loving Let The Light In lately. It's currently my most streamed song from the album.

lana stans when they realize that motherhood is an important subject in the life of a 30yo woman

I personally find it very beautiful when Lana sings about her family. She's not just providing insight into her own world, she's also encouraging us to contemplate those people in our own lives. A lyric like "my grandmother's last smile" is so powerful because how can someone hear it without considering their own grandmother's last smile? "Charlie, stop smoking" doesn't just make me think of Lana's brother, it makes me think of the people I love who are smokers and wish they could cut back too. "Chucky was there for three out of three" makes me think about rushing back to my hometown for my dad's final days. I think people get a lot more out of her lyrics when they find ways to relate them back to their own lives. Lana is a magician and she's very much placing these thoughts in our head for reasons that go beyond her in my opinion, she's just doing it in the way that is most personal and meaningful to her.

bahaha i went over to reddit to see what’s going on after reading the last few pages of this thread n came across this comment:
“It amuses me that Lana fans will lap up song after song replete with edgy references to praying, preaching, heaven, hell, God, the Bible, judgement, sin, and Jesus...But she puts a track with an actual Bible-quoting pastor in it, and they all run to the toilet”

    #spilled

n then they continued with “It's not just ‘a jackass in church’ - it's a guy begging God to help him love the people and things he already has in life instead of selfishly chasing after more money, power, and sex. What could be more feminist and anti-capitalist than that? What could be more honest and RAW?
If fans can't hear that, they're not listening”

which is an interesting take/interpretation on it ngl. Love that

there are so many references from her previous songs/poems it's impossible find them all and  living for it

some of these feel like a stretch tbh but here are the ones off the top o my head that i haven't seen mentioned already:

Kintsugi - Wild At Heart (melody)
Daddy I miss them, I’m in the mountains/Daddy I miss them I’m at the road runner cafe - What would you say if I told you u make me crazy/Time after time I think about leaving

Peppers - Nectar of the gods
Got a knife in my jacket, honey on the vine - What sweet world is this? Honey on the vine

    Peppers - Bartender
I got a truck, I take it out for a midnight, a midnight drive, yeah - I bought me a truck in the middle of the night

Fishtail - Pretty When You Cry
don't you dare say that you'll braid my hair, babe/when you don't really care - Don't say you need me when you leave and you leave again & I'll wait for you, babe/You don't come through, babe/You never do, babe/That's just what you do

    Sad Girl - Fishtail
i'm a sad girl - you wanted me sadder

    Brooklyn Baby - Fishtail
they say i'm too dumb to sing - not that smart, but i've got things to say

On one hand, I am sure she was an absolutely horrible mother (most teachers are because they relate to children in a different way), on the other hand, I'd love to hear her side of the story.

Thinking of the reception of great music this year I, for one, LOVE Caroline Polachek and her music is AMAZING but I am so puzzled how her latest album is freaking 93 MC while Tunnels is shaping up to be lower than 80. The math ain't mathing for me

"You wanted me sadder,” she sadly, sadly breathes on a sad little song about a man sadly not turning up for a date, and I wonder if there is anyone on earth who really does want her sadder? Indeed, is it possible to be any sadder than Lana Del Rey in a blue mood?"

oh i just know he is an incel

"The soul that you bring to the table
The one that makes me sing
    In a minor key"

    Is so beautiful to me
Songs in minor keys have the reputation of sounding sadder than their major counterparts. But that is not really true - it's just that minor sounds softer, more relaxed, more vibey, less harsh than major.

So Lana tells us that Margaret is making Jack feel like that, which is such a sweet way to describe the feeling of pure love.

This album isn’t an album for ugly bitches. Its for hot girls and gays. You aren’t gonna get it if you’re basic: go to the beverly center and listen to miley. This is for artists and dreamers and sexy weird people who are into philosophy and hot sex and being sad and aesthetic. Sexy piano bops arent for ugly girls. If you can’t shake your ass to these you probably just can’t shake your flat ass at all. Anyway this is magnus opus. Sayonara im about to drive up the coast and blast this because Im hot and deep and maybe a little shallow.
    Happy streaming

I think others already said this but I love the part in Taco Truck x VB where she says "I know that you hate me" almost saying it directly to the critics

And then the song goes into Venice Bitch and its like she's forcing them to remember how much they loved NFR...its genius really

true! however idk to me it always felt like BB was a compilation of “tracks she really wanted to put out to tell her story” - tb/ww/bb , “songs she made during that time that didn’t have a home” - bbs/iyldwm/beautiful/etc, and “songs that she likes and the fans love that she could put on here to make it a full length album” - cb/thunder/nectar/etc

like i fully 1000% do not believe songs like thunder or nectar would be on the album if they had not leaked prior, ya know?
