unpopular opinion i guess but i love the art she used for the announcement... it looks like a recovered picture from a pre-war album

 

at this point i respect her doing things on her own because it clearly is her artistic choice, also this piece doesn't really look as random as rock candy sweet/blue banisters teaser artworks but something with actual thought behind it

 about that? Why should we trust this statement?

 

With the format of the "cover" being all wrong, I think it's safe to assume the actual cover is still WIP. Hopefully, the record title too. It's so bad.

 

It's like "What's meant for you won't pass you by", "If they wanted to, they would", or "Actions speak louder than words."  Yeah, duh. We know. It's all over sad folks' blogs, Twitters and instagram accounts.

 

Why would anyone choose a truism for an album title? When "Lasso" is right there?

 

Most importantly, how did we go from "Born to Die," "Ultraviolence," and "Norman Fucking Rockwell," which are so powerful and evocative, to "The Right Person will Stay"?

 

Honestly, I wasn’t that thrilled about Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd at first (that one was a mouthful) but after a couple of listens of the track and in the context of the album, it’s iconic  I already prefer The right person will stay to Lasso, although Lasso had grown on me. As for the singles before end of year,  I guess they were planned back then in August, but it seems this was before she took a pause from the LP. Eclipse saying the album was mixed in September, and her stating there are 13 tracks indicates the album is done and it’s way easier to plan ahead with a somewhat « more solid » release date (even if it’s a Wednesday )

Im just so grateful for yesterday’s announcement: when we all thought it was just about her UK / Ireland shows (which are great but I can’t attend those, so… ) she resuscitated Henry and Lasso

Her titles have not been iconic or interesting since NFR. They've all been obnoxiously long sentences, or as bland as a paper napkin (Blue Banisters)

This one is the worst of them all though. But my expectations are significantly lower than they were back in the day, i think we can all agree on that. Even if we're afraid to admit it to ourselves

Blue Banisters is the most random album name ever imo, Arcadia sounded more beautiful and Rock Candy Sweet was more badass

I think the title is not that great really quite boring and possibly worse than Lasso, gives me ‘let me love you like a women’ vibes. The promo artwork is cute but I don’t like photos that have vignettes or large boarders so I hope it isn’t the album cover.  It might all make better sense and vibe when I actually hear the songs so I pray it all comes together.  
 

I am getting the blue banisters vibes like a lot of fans are stating online, I really liked a lot about BB but not sure we really need a sequel.  I think the songs we need are actually more like the ‘Lake Placid/mirror’ song that she played on tour or something more orchestral rather than county or Piano - but this is what Lana likes now I guess.

Full agree. Lana's album titles have, for the most part, been 'objective,' mysterious, and remained at a certain remove or distance, and neither maudlin nor an apparent attempt to appeal to the heartstrings of the average woman or man.

I agree about 50s and 60s album titles, including your opinion of the Aretha Franklin album. Think of Sinatra albums like In The Wee Small Hours, (Frank Sinatra Sings for) Only the Lonely, Come Fly With Me!, or Point of No Return—there are endless ways to manipulate language to suggest mood and theme, like Carly Simon did in the 70s with No Secrets, Another Passenger, or Boys in the Trees. Linda Ronstadt did it too: Prisoner in Disguise, Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams, Winter Light.  Spingsteen did it with Born to Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town. Joni Mitchell: Court & Spark, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter. Jeff Buckley: Grace. 

 

 And Lana has usually done it with panache while remaining aloof, as with Born To Die, which was a pretty bold title for an initial album. 

 

To my ear, she started to stumble with grossly overused phrase Lust For Life, though I appreciate the sentiment. I was also a non-fan of Norman Fucking Rockwell!

 

Instead of Lasso, maybe I'll call it Lover Stay or Lover, Stay.

I feel like this album will be inspired by platitudes, old sayings, perhaps in an ironic way. I feel like there'll still be some country elements, even if it's no longer Lasso.

 Bah I like the title, it reflects where she is right now (in her marital bliss - or at least we think what the song will be about)

 

I probably don’t mind The right person will stay since  Father John Misty’s latest is called Mahashmashana and is on heavy repeat on my phone right now: although it’s weird AF, the title track is just so sublime and encapsulates the LP perfectly.

Keep in mind that some of the tracks on this album will be older than anything on Ocean Blvd. She said she worked on this album for 4 years back in January, so I definitely expect some of the tracks to resemble the Chemtrails Over The Country Club / Blue Banisters sound.
