i don't think anybody did it exactly the same way lana did it though, you can't expect everybody to be aware of what other artists have done, especially since we're all lana stans, we're all going to mainly focus on her achievements & successes, even if another artist did something similar at some other point in time

i see what you're saying, but i don't think anybody is intentionally trying to rewrite & erase history by celebrating & recognizing lana's achievements, majority of people here aren't going to talk about, or even be aware of, other artist's accomplishments because this is a forum dedicated to lana, we're mostly going to talk about lana & only lana, & i would say that no two artists are the same, i'm sure there's been other artists who've blended genres together & innovated music, but lana did it in her unique way during a particular time period where it was effective & it was innovative, & that should be recognized as well

I’m going to be brave and say Dangerous Girl alone eats up the entirety of her last three albums easily…. I miss when she would have fun and conjure up these vibrant, imaginary, movie-like worlds. I’m tired of people saying we miss things like this and being shut down with “I’m sorry you can’t accept her maturity and growth” or whatever like closing her into a matronly box and she’s never allowed to talk about any of her old muses again simply because she knows better. She keeps trying to tell y’all that she’s wild and fucking crazy but u won’t listen 

 

Also the outfit is objectively not good but I can see why she chose the individual aspects of it. Her personal style may not be stylish in the sense that it’s “””refined”” or doing a trend “correctly”, but it’s definitely still thoughtful and a unique interpretation of her tastes. That’s why we love her!

I fully agree with this, however, I don't think that takes away from acknowledging Lana's impact on modern female alternative/pop music. Of course it all dates back to her inspirations and the women before her like Joni or Joan. Lana on her own though has a lot of accomplishments as well and there are so many artists right now that site her as an inspiration, even people like Taylor Swift. I don't think that anyone on here thinks she necessarily invented anything, but rather that she helped bring certain elements of her music as well as the music of earlier female artists back into the mainstream.

I really would like to see again that movie-like world you are talking about as well . That’s why i think that the next album should be more experimental with a variety of instrumentation , something that it’s a little bit out of her comfort zone compared to the last 2 albums . Even though i really enjoyed many songs from her last two releases i think that a similar release ( sound-wise ) would be a little bit disappointing to me at least, because i know her capabilities as an artist and how versatile she can be . Also i never understood the correlation between the maturity and sound argument . The genre of music you are exploring or the thematics you are talking about in your songs are not indicators of maturity ,for me at least, so i totally agree with what you are saying.

i only really know of joni and tori amos but i'm sure someone else could add a few. hope that helps

Black Bathing Suit has a very new sound and lyrical ideas, I don't think she has ever sung about her body in this way before

If You Lie Down With Me: the retro-jazzy trumpets at the end are extraordinary

Thunder: never before has a well-known leaked song been given such an enhancement with a superb string arrangement

Sweet Carolina: for the first time, a song created with family and friends (and a piano played by Rob)

 

I would say that there have never been so many new elements and experiments on one album. I don't see any repetitions on NFR, Chemtrails and BB, each album is completely different from the others.

Marina was also doing psychological (?) courses and that made album bad. In case of Lana it would be spontanicious decision. This and back to New York would make wonders. Japan would change Lana's mind in positive way.

Hip hop is problematic as I don't know how recent that field is, or how exactly to define it. I associate it with the likes of Kanye, Kendrick, Tyler, and (yikes!@) Eminem. Emile Haynie might need to get some credit for blending Hip Hop with Orchestral on BTD, as LDR's later albums aren't as hip hoppy (and AKA didn't seem inclined that way). As to who might precurse LDR with regard to clashing those particular genres, Portishead and Massive Attack (also the Roots?), in the sense of combining "noir/cinematic" and hip hop. Maybe even some later Blondie (i.e., Autoamerican, released when LDR was -5 years old; famous for the "trick" question: who introduced Rap to MTV?, I think it was Debby Harry). Janelle Monae, Corinne Bailey Rae (no relation to Ray), and Esperanza Spalding may also do work fitting the category you're describing. If not, they are at least worth checking out (in that order). And there are plenty I just don't know about. For me -- in terms of important style setters and/or exemplifiers of known styles -- Steely Dan (and Fagen and Becker separately) and Depeche Mode are at least groups that I would recommend in terms of "if you like them, you might like LDR, and vice versa".  This is because the AMSR and future-retro run strong in them, imo, but not anything specifically tied to orchestras or hip hop per se (although Steely Dan was influenced by Reggae and Stevie Wonder, and Keith Jarrett sued them).

after seeing her and olivia interact at the variety awards i kinda really want them to collab now 
i think it would make for a fun and interesting song (one that would be better than don’t call me angel ) 

and i really would wanna see what direction they’d take as two different artists from two different decades of music since theyre headliners for said decade of music

Both 'NFR' and 'Chemtrails' are a collection of leftovers, so I don't see why one could criticize either album for being a bunch of random songs while it's a critique that applies to both. 'Chemtrails' consists of the NFR leftovers, the remains of the so called "NFR sessions" and while 'Blue Banisters' has original songs on it, it literally has like five unreleased/repurposed songs that we know of, possibly more. 

 

As much as I appreciate these two albums, I long for a project that's fully original and doesn't consist of songs that she felt as though "needed a home".
