The name drops are terrible. We've had enough with Sean, Joni, Joan, Stevie, Cortney, and now Jenny and Nicki Lane. It's a little embarrassing and each new one dilutes all the others.

I think the ugliness of the selfie covers is a conscious choice, forcing people to focus on the music and the writing, which I can’t argue with strategically - they are near-objectively poor images of course, but I think she just feels done with the promotional cycle bullshit, as nice as it is for us to experience, it clearly doesn’t gel with her personality or priorities. She was slated for so long for leaning on presentation and aesthetics (a BIZARRE criticism from every angle), so she’s deliberately throwing in the towel on that front.

And hey, I’m down, I just hope to God it ain’t the album cover, though I’ve never liked any of her album covers since BTD. NFR was an amazing image, ruined by the obnoxious Pop Art typeface and its conceptual and aesthetic  incongruence with the cover’s painterly reference to the real Norman Rockwell. I also want her to do a textless cover at some point.

Knowing that the last song for COTCC was written in February 2020, it's interesting to note that by the time we first knew about Chemtrails, Lana's headspace had already shifted to these new songs.

Her going blonde, the Interview Magazine video, QFTC, Behind the Iron Gates....all of these things seem to be motifs that will run throughout the album.
I wonder how Lana felt about releasing an album as idealistic as Chemtrails when the reality as it was coming out was anything but. That must have been a real dichotomy and I guess that explains all the uncertainty surrounding it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the crazy year we've all had will weave its way into this record. I can tell it's going to be soul-crushing, earth-shattering, a real journey.

I loved Patent Leather Do-Over as well - it truly is a "magnum opus" when it comes to her poetry - and the writing on these 3 songs is incredible. She really tapped into a new creative vein of introspection amidst this pandemic. This record + the next poetry book are just going to be a new peak for Lana. I am soooo excited!

i adore these 3 songs from the new record,
but being a Lana Fan since 2013/2014 i can’t help but wonder what she would have thought back then of the cover work of these singles ? is it supposed to be a joke ? is it supposed to be ‘not glam’ i just can’t connect the dots tbh & idk i wish she’d explain.
not that artwork is the most important at all - but idk i miss the iconic artwork.

Manifesting a song called May on the album where she explains what happened in May/spring

WW is the saddest song she’s ever written and god it’s not like she’s ever really written happy music. However its not a downer because lana has always had an inner radiance that illuminates the darkness. The music is cathartic rather than depressive. She’s not afraid to delve into the shadow of society, and that’s why she’s never been the darling of the general public and also why she’s so precious to us. I can easily say Id probably be dead right now if I hadn’t given her music a fair listen, that’s terrifying and powerful and beautiful. I think the full album will be an actual triumph. End Rant

I agree regardless of whether this is intentional on Lana’s end or not. Many of the thoughts Lana hopes to challenge with this record (such as domestic abuse) could largely be attributed to an already unhealthy framework for relationships.

She seems to confront other accusations of glorifying aspects of mental illness and drug use as well. She happens to mention both of these in WW when she speaks of her hospitalization and “star drip IVs” after revealing her relationship with her mother.

Honestly, I’m incredibly surprised she’s been this open with the general public about it; it’s sad that she even feels obligated to share something that vulnerable in order to justify her artistic decisions, but I’m proud of her regardless

the crickets,  the kind of wave sounds , the backing vocals in text book make the listening experience so full , so beautiful  they give life to the song

i’ve been thinking all day but i wonder if in blue banisters, she’s talking about her sadness that lingers around mother’s day? & her lover & sisters gather around for her around this time to lift her spirits. idk ☪️

I love this so much and i agree especially with the last part. There's something so urgent about white dress and these three singles. It's so desperately longing to be understood. To see past everything and to see just her and the human that she is like all of us. It explains a lot of the lyrics in these singles where she reveals very personal information to us compared to her early music where she sings more in "themes"

Her deleting that post makes me feel like she wants to keep it our secret and that makes it even more special.

When I first listened, I hated all three songs lmao. I’m in bed now, listening again and really taking the time to understand the lyrics.

“Wildflower Wildfire” is easily the strongest out of the three imo, if only the weird sounding drums wouldn’t ruin it – shame on you, Mike Dean. Love the comments about Patty. DRAG HER!

“Blue Banisters” is cute, anyone care to explain the green and grey banisters? What do you think the colours symbolise?
Also, for some reason the lines “And be happy, and that scared me” remind me of the chorus in “Without You”?!?!! Does anyone get what I mean or am I imagining things???

“Text Book” I still have to get more used to and I don’t really get the song yet…

Overall, all three songs share a very distinctive sound, she sounds so desperate to share these songs with us, these new puzzle pieces, explaining why she’s the way she is. It reminds me of the way her singing in “White Dress” makes me feel. It feels so new!

With what we heard so far from the album  it seems like it will be a perfect soundtrack for summer nights , sitting alone on the balcony,  smoking a ciggy,  drinking a glass of wine while watching the stars. A soft breeze on your skin and in your hair

Hmm I kinda hate that none of these songs have good hooks and moreover, these batch of songs remind me of Violet—incredibly personal and haunting. It’ll be hard for me to revisit these casually. At least with Violet, I had the book so I could read them with my own interpretation.

Wildflower opens with some heavy minor chords. I can’t remember any recent song doing that, but I also continually failed ear training when I did music as a kid so

She doesn't care about promos anymore because she's doing it for fun, she's doing it for free, she's doing for the riiiiiiiiiiiiight reasons

i still don’t see where y’all hear the return of "old lana" ? except that one note that sounds very btd and her using her lower register a bit more i don’t hear it... this is obviously nfr/cocc/violet lana but without jack’s compressed production. i wouldn’t call this the big return to her roots, like at all ? if anything it’s a continuation and harmonization of her classical lanaism songwriting mixed with her more modern poetic and current thoughts/expressions/headspace

I think what's so rich about these songs is how mature they are. Throughout my four years with Lana, it really feels as though her music as matured alongside with me as I've grown up and changed, and these songs really showcase that for me. I don't know - I know a lot of people are hating everything about this release including the songs themselves, but these songs have come at the perfect point in my life and I think that I'm going to grow the cherish them deeply

Tacky clothes, bad lightning, wigs, low quality image, weirdness...
