I think it will work like an album release and will be available worldwide on Spotify and such on Midnight EST, I think in NZ it's not out for stream yet anywhere but on Apple Books

"I was born with a little bit of paradise.
I was lucky in that way,
    Not like my husband,
Who was born and raised in hell."

Okay... Who are these husbands and ex-husbands she keeps talking about?

No idea, but the way she repeats that question across the poem kills me

Me, a person who's never been to LA and has no idea what she's really talking about:

I know what you mean! I do feel it too, unfortunately.
When I read the poem, I also thought of that Arctic Monkeys' song Old Yellow Bricks because they ask "who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up?", and it's very focused on the idea of wanting to run away for the sake of running away but also wanting to go "home". But I think your words are a better fit!

I think the problem is that culture can be used for any set of habits or standards inside a society or field (I know these are not the right words but I hope you understand?), so instead of more broad things like politics or culture as a whole like the Kanye West situation this can also refer to the times in May when she called out the music industry for always being rough on her unlike the way they treated other singers

"My friends tell me to stop calling 911 on the culture,
but it’s either that or I 5150 myself."

This gives me The Greatest/"Kanye West is blonde and gone" vibes instead of Lana's Instagram posts from May vibes or at least that's what I hope she meant by this

For some reason with her writing about the concept of a home, I thought of the U2 song “Walk On” because there is a line in there that says “home, hard to know what it is if you never had one.” But that’s just a favorite song on mine and I guess I was reminded of it.

Also on Born to Die Lana sings “ Can you make it feel like home if I tell you you're mine?”.

This concept of “home” is something that Lana desires because she has never had it. And since this poem is about LA, it’s important to note that LA has a big homeless population. Lana has a house, but maybe she has metaphorically always felt “homeless”.

And now I think of another line from another U2 song (Sometimes You can’t make it on Your Own) that says “A house doesn’t make a home. Don’t leave me here alone”.

Lana has so much inside of her. But damn, I do feel it too!

It’s obvious she means pop culture/the world in flames at the moment like she referenced in NFR, but that’s going to be used to mean something else for Karen Del Rey, sadly.

    Paradise is very fragile,
and it seems like it’s only getting worse.

    Down here in Florida,
    We’re fighting red toxic tides,
    Massive fish kills,
Not to mention hurricanes and rising sea levels.

Back in Los Angeles, things aren’t looking much better.
My treehouse that’d been standing for 80 years succumbed to the woolsy fire.

Who would’ve thought that this year at 33,
You would’ve been taken out from under me,
    After all those years?

Built from the ground up, by hand, by your very first owner.
Quiet world war one aviation pilot.
I tried to save you, but the German Shepard seemed more important.

    Paradise is very fragile,
    and it’s only getting worse.

    Our leader is a megalomaniac,
    And we’ve seen that before.
But never 'cause it was what the country deserved.

My friends tell me to stop calling 911 on the culture,
but it’s either that or I 5150 myself.

    They don’t understand.
    I’m a dreamer.
And I had big dreams for the country.
Not for what it could do, but how it could feel.
    How it could think,
    How it could dream.

    I know.
Who am I to dream for you?
It’s just that in my own mind,
I was born with a little bit of paradise.
I was lucky in that way.
    Not like my husband,
Who was born and raised in hell.

I always had something gentle to give.
    All of me, in fact.
It’s one of the beautiful things about me.
It’s one of the beautiful things about nature.

But... lately I’ve been thinking that I wish
Someone had told me when I was younger
More about the inhabitants that thrive off of paradise.

That should they take too much,
There would be nothing left to give.
Not everyone’s nature is golden and green.
And you can’t fight what’s in your nature.

I got to thinking about it as we were fighting the fires in Agora
But I’m tired of fighting you.

    Paradise is very fragile,
    and it’s only getting worse.

And every time I think of that,
I think about the curse bestowed upon Eve
That fateful eve she took that bite of fruit from that fruitful tree.
And this summer night, you in front of me,
Makes me contemplate the origins of good and evil.

Because you take, and you take, and take, and you take,
But you taste like the beach and a kiss.
    Candy from my eyes,
in my veins you run citrus.

Watercolour images of serpents on orange trees arise in my midst.
    Kundalini, you breathe me.
    I could do this forever.

But my heart is very fragile,
and I have nothing left to give.

thank you to @ takeitdoen for the transcript, for it is released in Australia
