She’s been a Kate fan since at least 2006. This interview is from 2009 and Marina says she loves Kate’s music. Here‘s an excerpt:

I don’t mind. I don’t give it much thought. Not to say I don’t appreciate it, I am very flattered. When people started comparing me to her about three years ago, I was like ‘Who’s Kate Bush?’. Can you imagine?! Anyway, I got mum to send me six songs of hers in the post. ‘Babooshka’, ‘Running Up That Hill’, ‘Wuthering Heights’.. I definitely fell in love instantly. An instant click, it felt like she was my sonic sister and in a very genuine way. Not because I had every tried to sound like her. I really can’t imagine doing anything worse.
 
So she didn‘t grow up with Kate‘s music but definitely had known her for years when TFJ came out.

yeah same with doja opening for the weeknd this summer (or, well, she was supposed to )
 
not only new audiences, but it works out well when it’s two artists with very similar fan bases too! if one of their fav artists wasn’t enough to get them to buy a ticket, surely two of their favs will
 
also. marina may be big, but she’s not huge - charli xcx and camila cabello opened for taylor swift and they’re both definitely bigger than marina. and while panic isn’t taylor level, they’ve been getting quite a nice number of chart toppers with their last few albums

Atlantic is truly the pits, we HATE them! 

iirc she's talked about having control over her art, but then again, she's also discussed things like Atlantic sitting on FROOT forever and refusing to fund its mixing and photoshoot, the HTBAH video getting delayed because Atlantic thought she was ugly in it and wanted to make edits, Atlantic telling her to scrap 3 songs from EH's standard tracklist and getting her to scrap 2, Atlantic refusing Bubblegum Bitch as a single, etc. etc.

Artistic and scheduling freedom probably. As long as her management is good she won't have to sacrifice good promo but idk about budget  (It's not like the label was giving her that much for MVs anyway so she'll be fine self funding)

Saw Marina last night and she was amazing. After being a fan for over ten years it was great to see her live finally. But oh my god it was the sweatiest and hottest concert I have ever been to! It like the venue wasn’t fit for the gig.

this is just tumblr but 2022, probably a bit better because TikTok has actual age restriction/filters, I remember seeing Dark Paradise lyrics alongside self harm scars on tumblr at least TikTok has a not interested function
