Born to Die and Paradise were Lana taking her experiences and spinning them into these evocative and enhanced visions of the reality she once knew.

Lust for Life was Lana subverting that reality and challenging the moral foundations upon which she operates, marking a transition.

Norman Fucking Rockwell! and Chemtrails Over the Country Club were sabbaticals that showed a day-in-the-life of Lana and consolidated her creative vision.

Ultraviolence, Honeymoon, and Blue Banisters are the complex and intricate autobiographical recounts that are the fruit of Lana's labour. These three records are where the heavy lifting of turning all the way inward happens – and yields the most rewards.

I kinda wanna make a big thesis-like post on why Arcadia is so amazing, but more specifically, why the 2nd verse is a career highlight, and my favorite part of the song.

When we first heard the snippet months ago (first verse), I was under the impression Arcadia was going to be this sort of whimsical, playful song about falling in love, or body positivity (obviously, this being Lana, it would be less corny than those descriptions, but u know what I mean). When we first heard the song in full, I was perplexed by the second verse. On first listen, I felt like the song slightly veered off-course... It left a weird feeling, a strange taste in my mouth... Her vocals were slightly off-key, borderline slurred, a little unhinged emotionally. The video helped make it click: Oh wait! She's actually still fucking pissed about everything that's been said about her. But this colorful delivery, this flavor, in my opinion, is what makes Arcadia so fucking wonderful.

    So, let's revisit:

My body is a map of LA... my heart is like paaaaaper... I haaaate ya.
Lana starts to get pitchy on the second word of the second verse, and already sounds deflated as the verse starts. She describes her heart as paper -- thin, malleable, lightweight, and then just straight-up goes for the jugular, stating "I hate you". It's all THEIR fault! It's easy to miss this part in the song due to her delivery, but make no mistake, she's pissed.

I'm not from the land of the palms, so I know I can't stay... I'm not native.
Again, she goes from general to specific. She feels like an outsider, or an outcast, in a song dedicated to a random piece of a state she's gained so much inspiration from. She doesn't feel like she belongs, so she knows she can't stay. She feels transient, even in a place she's devoted so much of her time to. Tone-wise, she sounds regretful, almost ashamed or embarrassed, at least for a second...

But... my curves, San Gabriel all day... my lips, like the fire licks the Bay...
Like she always does, Lana bounces back, even when she's upset. The swelling of the music here helps drive Lana's resolve. She claims ownership of HERSELF, and still compares her body parts to parts of California. Her delivery of "My lips" in particular is pure camp, whether she intended it to be or not. It's so deliciously dramatic, borderline Broadway-level, and almost overtakes the song itself, but you can really sense that she's feeling herself in that moment (as she should).

If you think that you know yourself, you can come over... Lay your hands on me like you're a Land Rover... in Arcadia.
I'm not sure what she means by the "If you think that you know yourself, you can come over" line. Either she's mocking herself for not knowing where she belongs in this world (despite equating her body parts to parts of CA) and wanting to spend time with a man more self-assured than she is, or she's wanting to know what parts of CA another man is made of.   Either way, it's cute and flirtatious, and Lana looks camp square in the eye by finishing off the end of the verse slightly flat.

A four-line PERFORMANCE of a verse, my friends. From deflation and resignation, to anger and embarrassment, to resilience and confidence, to flirtation and Broadway-infused camp. The drama of it all! Arcadia is that bitch!

Wow…you said it so perfectly — this right here is exactly the genius of Arcadia. It’s quite a defining song for the record, it seems, and all of the subtleties of its lyricism and delivery work together to convey exactly what you identified as Lana’s feelings.
(also, you always have the best posts, I see you and appreciate you <3)

Whining over not being able to see what photos a 34 year old woman is posting on a little computer you keep in your pocket is a little elitist ridiculous. Please go forest bathing or take a nice walk without your phone.

2023 AOTY is probably going to Adele already .
As long as the Grammys keep changing her into pop categories I don't think she'll get one cause at the end of the day mainstream appeal is (sadly) a huge factor for a win in the main awards.
AOTY seems to be a fair category sometimes (for example when Kacey won for Golden Hour versus Cardi, Drake and Post Malone) but I don't know if she'll get another nomination there even if she releases a better album than NFR (she already did x2 tho )

Can y'all stop with that "Dealer solo version" BS? That song would not make sense at all if it wasnt a duet.
You guys are overanalyzing every little lyric from a 2007 laptop demo but can't figure out theconcept of a song because I jUsT wOaNt LoAnA!!!1!!!11!

it's stupid that requests don't automatically accept when you go public like on twitter. of course i'd be sleeping and now i miss out as usual just because i don't make stalking lana online my entire existence. it's beyond annoying that this happens all the time. i hope instagram goes down again and never comes back because this shit didn't matter before social media. these days we're either all connected or alienated from each other and there's no in between. and this situation is just amplifying the already harmful "us vs them" online dynamic that no one can escape.

It's really interesting how her whole career before this album was based on "daddy issues" and whatnot, at least that's how she was always perceived by the critics due to the lyrics in her songs, yet in the opening track on this record she says "i guess you could call it text book, i was looking for the father i wanted back" - and then proceeds to change the narrative of her story by explaning her mother issues, her very real issues behind the aesthetically pleasing curtain, and then on the final track she sings with her father and is strong enough to confront the real cause of her pain throughout the years

    she's really changed the game

    Black Bathing Suit theory
I posted this on my fanpage on Instagram, but wanted to share it here too.

I rarely believe in rumors or even post about them, but I read something saying Black Bathing Suit has the same vibes as High By The Beach and something caught my attention; back in 2018, when she came to my city, she went to the beach wearing a black bathing suit, but didn’t take her clothes off because of paparazzi since felt uncomfortable, so as High By The Beach music video is focused on the way paparazzi invade her privacy and make her insecure, it totally makes sense she would sing about that day. She loves coming here and she must’ve wanted to enjoy her day at the beach, but couldn’t because of it, so I wonder if the song is a big “fuck you, I just wanted to have a nice time but couldn’t show my black bathing suit because of your cameras” and it breaks my heart…this album is so personal, it’s very close to her poetry and it shows she’s maturing and growing, so I’m proud of her for singing about her thoughts and experiences like that.
Even if the song is not about that situation, I wish she wouldn’t “have” to go through this just for being who she is…

Btw the picture is fully informative, I am NOT supporting their work and the way they made Lana feel uncomfortable, I’m just showing you what happened so we can relate my text with the image and we can discuss the subject. I’m glad she had a nice time with her friends and some fans despite the situation though :-)

from her albums getting leaked every single time?? I know she's not exactly losing money but we already have half of this album so what's the problem to wait until the release date as planned? that's just my opinion based on how she feels about her albums getting leaked, I know this is a lost battle, this album is probably leaking next week or something

I'm glad she gets solid support from the fandom when it comes to preorders tho, hope she's gonna grab that #1 in UK one more time to add to the collection
