yep, i agree. she’s definitely not as “blunt” about her beliefs as a lot with women are, but you can tell with her lyrics and everything that she is definitely a feminist. i’m sick of the “romanticizing abuse” thing too, i don’t get it- why can’t she just write about her pain and experiences without being called a whore? makes me wonder about the line from “A&W,” referencing rape and how people believed she’d have asked for it if she was raped. maybe that’s a comment on all of the people saying she romanticizes and asks for sexual abuse.

I think feminism can be way more complex and complicated than people allow it to be and some man at pitch4k or whatever trying to write a think piece on Lana's take on it can eat my gooch tbh.

to be honest I can hardly blame Lana for never wanting to straight up adopt the 'feminist' label  (despite clearly caring deeply for women & being aware of n regularly pondering on the patriarchy) after one of her first experiences with a self-proclaimed feminist was them throwing a book at her unprovoked lolol... that's one way to shoot yourself along w your cause right in the foot.

radical types like that will always drive others away & make it hard for people to want to associate with the "movement"/group or whatever you wanna call it

but the moderator qualifies it by talking about "feminist narratives," implying that she doesn't necessarily agree
and she played FMWUTTT because Lana plays with female stereotypes here too like in A&W

Yeah, she’s an album artist, never been a single’s artist so it’s irrelevant for her. But for the sake of the continuity, I think we should just consider the lead the first song released. So for the last few albums: Love, MAC, LMLYLAW, Blue Banisters? (She released 3 at a time IIRC? So let’s just use title track), and now DYK.

Yeah the only reason I get mad is because of people not supporting her. I've literally order all the variants (like always) so when COTCC got leaked I listened to it cuz I had in preorder already 12 variants 🥲 and now I have 16 in total 💀💀💀🤡

Legitimate music critics only girls! I'm sure she's coming for her best MC score yet, and many "Best of" lists. Lana is a critics darling! Even the negative reviews will have glimmers of positivity and acclaim for her talent and artistry. As far as promotion, get ready to print out flyers for the album to put up around your cities, and don't forget to stitch DYK audio to your trendy TikToks! And the tried and true method, upload "sexy" appearing content, where a DYK song will interrupt mid video. Also, leave the album streaming on Spotify, on your computers, while you're away at work/school/running errands!

i’ll gladly take music videos this era but also i’m sooo content not getting any either. it’s actually nice just imagining your own visuals for the song that represent what it means to you. an era’s photoshoots and stuff set the mood like, this is the world that we’re in, but without music videos, you as a listener actually have that whole world to run around in and make your own, i think it’s cool.

i actually kinda hate when artists release music videos long after the song because by that point i already have my own strong imaginative visual landscape of what the music is, and if something completely different from what i was picturing comes out it can kinda change my perception. and not necessarily always in a good way

exactly!!! I also think she felt extremely rejected by the feminist community due to their initial (ignorant) perception of her resulting in Lana's perplexing comments about feminism. Regardless, it is evident by the things u listed that she's a feminist.

Lana’s feminism manifests itself in atypical ways. In her work you have to read between the lines. I’m what you would consider a “typical feminist” but Lana definitely is. A feminist is literally just a person who supports women getting the same rights as men. Speaking up about domestic abuse (Ultraviolence) is a bold choice and many could argue it’s romanticized but I doubt that was Lana’s intention. She makes music for her and gives no fucks about how others perceive it. A woman not seeking validation from the media and doing whatever she wants is feminism if you ask me. It’s just not “typical” feminism.

Idk if this was mentioned already but I had a brain blast and I wonder if Lana did this intentionally:
We all know part 2 of A&W is very much giving Lizzy Grant/BTD energy, and when the song starts to transition, all the vocals sound reversed and there’s also some effects that sound like it’s a VHS tape rewinding or something so it’s like she’s literally time traveling back to her old style. And that also makes me wonder if the narrative of this story is actually taking place in present-day Lana’s life or if she’s just reflecting on her Lizzy Grant days

or maybe I’m just dumb LOL

3 weeks ago some guys in class claimed they were not feminists because it's an unhinged movement of women showing their boobs at protests. I don't think it's really hard to differentiate things, it's not because some people do certain things that you have to associate a whole movement with those actions.
I know it's kinda off-topic and maybe moderators will move our comments elsewhere, but the topic has been resurfacing these past few days on twitter (and that's directly related to some of A&W's lyrics), but I read and agreed with a comment under a Youtube video criticizing Lana for qftc. Putting aside the name dropping that caught way too much attention, it sums up pretty well the main issue or questioning I had with her post. The comment said:

"also as someone whos been studying feminist movements for years i hate how shes acting like no feminist has ever advocated for more traditionally feminine women to be treated with respect and dignity when feminists HAVE advocated for these women. she doesnt understand that feminism isnt about rejecting traditional femininity, but about rejecting the idea that femininity is inferior to masculinity and giving agency for women (and everyone) to choose how they want to perform their gender identity without being ostracized. she doesnt understand feminism at all which is even more infuriating"

Even with the change in date of the album release, I feel like this is the smoothest era so far in recent history. I think we quickly forget how uniquely awful the waiting period for NFR! was (I wasn't on LB at the time, but I remember waiting in annoyance through most of late 2018 to mid 2019), the disaster that was the COTCC announcement (+ the White Hot Forever announcement) and the radio silence making us think the whole album had been scrapped post-QFTC, and the total ambiguity of the Rock Candy Sweet -> Blue Banisters release dates.

We really lucked out with Did You Know.
