I am fascinated  with how Lana has an affinity for the name Violet. I also use Violet as a screen name or as a placeholder for characters in stories I create. When I was young teen, Vioet was my alter ego, and it kinda is now. I wish she would speak more on "Violet."

omgg.. thank the lanaboards!! i was wondering if i’d ever find this article without a paywall.. i’m too broke after all the lana merch i bought this year. 😭😭😭

edit: i just finished the article after commenting.. but woww.. this is such a wonderful article. she seems so much more confident in herself and her ability. the last paragraph really spoke to me and makes me so happy to know that she’s so excited to keep moving forward. 🥹💕

"Because there is more to explore. I know people who've tested every water. It's burnt them, like Icarus. But I'm willing to go there. I see it coming for me. We'll see." She is speaking quickly now, excitedly. "We'll see what melts the wings."

It seems she's been interested in Greek mythology & poetry lately and has applied the stories as metaphors for her own life. Here, by referencing Icarus and his wax wings that melted by flying too close to the sun. Earlier this year, she attended a reading of Ulysses which was inspired by The Odyssey, and after hearing the reading she wrote a message in a guestbook that suggested that the book's final line featuring the repetition of the word "yes" was how she attempted to live her own life which left her feeling dissatisfied. Even in Fingertips she writes, "They say there's irony in the music, it's a tragedy, I see nothing Greek in it" & “Call me Aphrodite as they bow down to me”
I'm interested to see how Greek mythology & poetry influence her upcoming work too x

i feel like when she said things would be simpler she meant with the subject matter. the last two albums featured some of her most personal songs to date and she had never explored some of the topics on ocean before - maybe slight teases on blue banisters. this album was monumental for many reasons and one of them was the story it told. i'm so proud of her like this was the closest she could challenge norman and I KNOW she has it in her to decimate nfr!

about the standards... well lana does have her own standards but yeah guess we might be getting the covers album after all

The ending part about not having kids yet was interesting. She was slightly hard to follow there, but it sounds like she might be coming around to accepting that she doesn’t feel it’s possible for her because she’s living an artist’s life?

Yesss! I was always confused on the meaning of that particular couple of lines “clutch of the wrist…” and this puts it all into perspective. I know she doesn’t want to talk about the meaning behind her songs or lyrics but I’d die to get all the backstories and little details that inspired her music throughout her career.

sidenote: I love how cheeky she got when she asked the interviewer about asking her messy questions like if she was married, she’s very playful!

I hate to be crazy but I found this out researching her family tree. It’s from Patty’s side and ancestors apparently fought on both sides, which may play into what she says about her karmic lineage. I actually found this out very recently so its funny she mentions it now.

I hear you and totally recognise the relevance and resonance of Marilyn to Lana. I don’t think Lana is dressing as Marilyn however to reach global recognition. I don’t think Lana does anything for global recognition nowadays to be frank. My sense is Lana only does what’s right by the heart and dressed as her because that’s something she enjoys to do any chance she gets. My question about the ‘very specific impulse’ she has to dress as Marilyn which she ‘won’t say’ just seems to point to a particular personal event which Lana doesn’t want to disclose.

Maybe Violet is her? Maybe Violet is Lizzy? Because when it was revealed that Terrence Loves You alternate title was "Violet Sings The Blues". She was blonde when she was Lizzy Grant and she dyed her hair black when she was already Lana Del Rey. Maybe it was Lizzy who bent backwards over the grass.

(Maybe Violet will be her future stage name, if she wants to change it - but I hope not, I'm not one of those name-change believers)

Never worry about specific details like that straight from Lana - she is never precise. It could mean three years and could mean thirteen.

Americana is a music genre that encompasses traditional music styles including folk, jazz, country, bluegrass, blues, gospel, singer-songwriter, and roots music.

The instrumentation of Americana music continues to be characterized by acoustic guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, and harmonicas, as well as electric guitars and drums.

You're right. It's phrased a little strangely, but she means that you start to wrongly believe that Safety should be the most important thing, when it should be passion, and trying to stay safe leads to losing your power as an artist.
